Chapter 8

Thanksgiving was approaching. With my parents being in Canada, my sister halfway across the country, and my brother still in the military, I was going to be having Thanksgiving with Violet and Grandma Mary.

"It's only gonna be us three," Violet told me on the phone.

"Oh good a small and quiet Thanksgiving. I honestly don't like the idea of loud, bustling holidays," I told her.

Violet chuckled.

"Yeah, I get that. Also, did I tell you who wrote to me?" Violet asked.

"Who?" I asked her curiously.

"My dad. He sent a letter about 3 weeks ago, well it was dated that. But because of the way the prisons process the mail it got lost," Violet explained.

Her dad was in prison shortly before her mom passed in the car accident. He was arrested for drug-related charges and armed robbery. She didn't have a great relationship with him but they were there for each other when they needed it.

"Does he know about everything?" I asked her.

"Well Grandma Mary, well of course, she told him at a visit and he was curious to see how things were going," she commented.

Grandma Mary made a promise to keep the contact because that is the only parent Violet would have in her life.

"That's good, right? I don't know how to react Violet," I told her honestly.

She sort of laughed.

"(Y/N), you are perfectly fine in your reaction. I mean I didn't know how to react when the letter came in the mail," she replied.

I sighed in relief.

"So are you gonna go see him or?" I asked curiously.

"Grandma thinks right now no. I am working on getting a letter written to him and she's gonna visit him next week. I just can't bring myself to see him. It's a reminder that mom's gone," she confessed.

I frowned at her comment.

"I get that. Totally get it. Are you gonna talk about this at the AA meeting? I mean it would be a great topic to show your strength and growth," I told her.

"I mean I did drink a lot in the beginning after my mom died because of my dad. He always drank when I was growing up and used it as his vice. I guess the apple didn't fall from the tree but hey I turned it around," Violet told me.

"Yes, you did turn it around I am so proud of you. I always say that but it's true," I told her.

She had come so far in the last 8 months. I didn't want anything to set her progress back.

"That always makes my little heart so happy hearing that," Violet told me.

Just then, my timer in the kitchen went off. I forgot I was baking a pizza for dinner.

"Violet I gotta get my pizza out of the oven or I'm going to starve tonight," I joked.

"Ok I'll be here," she told me as I put the phone down on the side table.

I ran to the kitchen and grabbed my oven mitts.

I pulled my pizza out. It was a little crisper than I had wanted, oh well.

I set it on the counter to cool off before going back to the living room and grabbing the phone again for a few. I was ready to eat.

"Okay I'm back," I told her.

"Oh, goodie. Was your pizza okay?" she asked chuckling.

"It's a little crisper than I thought but that's ok," I told her.

She laughed.

"That's unfortunate but hey it'll still taste good, right?" she asked.

"Oh of course," I told her as my doorbell rang.

"Was that your doorbell?" she asked.

"Y-yeah I don't know who it could be," I remarked as I held the phone and walked to the front door and looked out the peephole.

I looked through the little peephole and it was Andy. He was holding flowers.

"Oh my god it's Andy," I whispered into the phone.

"Wait is there something you ain't telling me?" Violet asked.

"Oh my god no why is he here?" I began to panic quietly as the doorbell rang again.

"Maybe you are overthinking it," she told me.

"He's holding flowers," I told her.

"A-oh?" Violet replied.

"I'm going to go answer it. I'll call you later," I told her.

I took a deep breath before seeing if he was still on the porch.

I slowly opened the door.

"Uhm hi," I remarked nervously.

"Hi sorry to drop by unexpectedly. Did I interrupt something?" Andy asked casually.

"No no, I was just talking to Violet while I made myself dinner. Well, baked myself dinner," I told him as I tried to avoid the flowers he was holding.

He smiled at me.

"Oh well I was wanting to do something for you to thank you for everything that you've been doing for me and of course since the beginning when we met at Betty Ford. These are for you," he told me as he handed me the beautiful floral arrangement.

"Andy I-I don't know what to say," I replied as I looked at the flowers.

He had gotten an arrangement of lilies, roses, a few carnations, and baby's breath. He remembered from a conversation that I loved lilies. They were my favorite.

"How rude am I? Come in," I told him as I opened the door a little wider for him to walk in.

"Are you sure? I don't want to interrupt your dinner," he told me before stepping forward.

"Have you eaten? I mean it's just pizza. It's a little crispy," I told him.

"Crispy pizza? I don't turn down a nice slice of pizza," Andy replied with a smile.

I'm sure my cheeks shined with crimson. The way my heart felt at his acceptance made me feel needed.

"Then come on in," I told him kindly as we walked into the living room.

"Nice place. I love the stereo set up," Andy gestured over to the music corner I had.

"Thanks," I told him as I placed the floral arrangement on the living room coffee table.

"How long have you lived here?" he asked curiously as we stood awkwardly in the living room.

"Uhm about 2 years. I bought the house after I saved up for a downpayment," I told him.

"It's a beautiful location," he told me.

"The kitchen's this way. I still need to cut the pizza," I told him as he followed me.

I felt like I was walking on air. Not in a lovesick sense but so out of reality. Was this really happening?

"Make yourself comfortable," I told him as he set down at the kitchen table.

"This kitchen is also nice," he remarked.

He was trying to make small talk.

"Thanks I liked how white everything was when I bought the house so I left it," I told him.

"It's really nice," he told me as we made awkward eye contact.

I went to grab the pizza cutter.

"Would you like a drink?" I asked him as I went to cut the pizza.

"Do you have Coke or Pepsi?" he asked.

"Yes I do both actually," I told him as I finished cutting the pizza.

"I'll take a Pepsi when you are done," he told me sweetly.

I went ahead and washed my hands and got into the fridge.

"Did you want it over ice?"I asked him.

Andy thought momentarily.

"That would be nice thank you," he replied.

I got 2 glasses out filled them with ice and got us our drinks.

"Oh, I almost forgot. I had made a small salad," I commented as I went back to the fridge to get the salad out.

Andy chuckled as he watched me aimlessly around the kitchen.

I sat down at the table with him for a second before realizing I had forgotten the plates the pizza and the silverware.

"I swear I'm usually a better host than this," I told him as I brought the stuff to the table.

He shook his head and laughed.

"No no, don't worry. You are fine. I'm the one who dropped by unexpectedly," Andy replied as I handed him a plate and fork.

"Guests first," I told him as I sat down again.

"Thank you (Y/N)," Andy told me as he served himself a plate.

I smiled at his comment. He was really human which I don't think a lot of people normalized in celebrities.

The only thing on my mind what was Violet would say when I tell her that Andy had come over to my house. Would she insinuate things that were untrue? She wasn't that way but it's going to be the only thing she'll want to talk about for the next week. Living out someone's teenage fantasy I suppose by having dinner with Andy.
