Chapter 74
"You got the job?" Andy asked proudly.
"Yes, I got the job! But, not for the original location in San Diego. They want me for the Burbank location," I told him as we stood on the front porch.
"Wait we don't have to move?" he asked.
I shook my head.
"That's good, right?" I asked him.
"Well of course darling that's good but then I guess something I wanted to ask you needs to be asked now," he commented.
"Yes?" I asked him.
"Well I wanted to live with you in that apartment permanently if you were moving to San Diego but I was thinking we could move in together?" he asked.
I didn't know what to say. I loved him and was excited to see where the relationship was going.
"You want for us to live together like for real?" I asked.
He chuckled.
"Yes for real. I mean I live here anyway all the time. I feel like it's good timing and we're about to celebrate a year together," he commented.
Again, I had never been in an adult relationship and didn't know what normal things were to be expected.
"When do you want to move in officially?" I asked him.
"Well, when do you start your new job? I want to do it after you are settled there," he told me.
"I start the job in about 2 1/2 weeks which means I put in my two weeks' notice tomorrow," I told him.
"Wait, so like are you just not gonna quit and take a 2 week vacation?" he asked.
Andy did have a brilliant point. Why should I even bother giving a two-week notice when I could call Deja and tell her I quit? Well, after I get my stuff.
"Well, I can technically say I quit after my day tomorrow. I have stuff at my desk to pick up," I told him.
"But then we could have 2 weeks to ourselves. Like just enjoying the time," he told me.
I paused for a second. It would be nice to have a pre-vacation to my new chapter. I really liked the idea.
"Wait do you realize this all happens during our official one-year weekend?" I asked him.
He paused and smiled.
"Why don't we go inside and sit down and talk about this?" he asked me.
"Of course, I hardly realized we had been standing on the porch this entire time," I commented with a chuckle.
We walked in and settled down. The other thing on my mind was the fact Violet would be going home tomorrow. I also was really thirsty.
"So like I had told you before, I was hoping we could do something nice for our one year together. But now that you are quitting your job, maybe we could still drive out to San Diego and do something fun instead of house hunting," he told me.
"Wait don't you have to be in Florida to work with your brothers? No wait, why don't we go out to Florida instead? I've never been before and I'd get to know your brothers and family better," I told him.
"We will have to find Sam a babysitter but I think I like your idea better," he commented as we mindlessly walked through the kitchen to get something to drink.
I took two glasses and filled them with soda and ice. Not the best thing to curb my thirst, I know.
"We could spend the whole two weeks or just 10 days depending but I feel like I hardly know your family. Your sister Berri told me that she doesn't feel like she knows me," I told him.
"Well you are a career woman darling and have been working ever since I've known you," he told me as we grabbed our drinks and headed back to the living room.
"All I've known is work and school. And to be honest, I've always felt a little lost in love till now. I have never had a proper relationship. But now we've found it and I've truly never been happier. You've taught me things and I know I've taught you things too," I told him.
He smiled as he tried to find words to reply.
"Wow you just knocked it out of the park there with one breath," he commented.
I looked down at my soda.
"I mean it's how I feel I know things aren't always perfect and like there are things that the outside world will never know that we've said out of anger but I do love you for you. I don't care how much money we have or anything like that," I nervously said.
For some reason, my heart was speaking too much.
"You know I know that. And it's nice when you verbalize these things cause sometimes I feel like I'm doing everything wrong and I'll eventually break those habits. But, every day is a joy to grow with and to heal with," he told me.
I smiled.
"Now I got a bigger question," I told him.
"Yes?" he asked.
"How soon do we need to book those tickets to Florida?" I asked.
This would be my first out-of-state trip for the first time in years.
He smiled.
"Well I should probably get them booked tonight so let me go get that taken care of," he told me.
"Wait you'll need my card number, won't you? For my ticket?" I asked.
"Darling can't I pay for the both of us?" he asked.
"I don't want to feel like I'm mooching off you," I told him.
"You aren't mooching off me darling," Andy told me.
"I'll feel guilty so let me get my wallet," I told him.
He sighed as I went to get my wallet.
"Let me pay at least for my ticket," I told him as I handed him my wallet.
"You are so stubborn," he told me as he disappeared to use the bedroom phone to make the calls.
"I can say the same about you," I commented.
He laughed.
And so, while Andy got the arrangments made, I went to find a pen and paper to write my 2 weeks' notice.
I loved Carlos, Deja, and a few other coworkers. But it was my turn to see if the rocks only live forever.
I began jotting down the first sentence.
"Dear Carlos and Deja, this isn't easy as you two have made this job worthwhile. However, effective immediately I am no longer working for your company," was the opening line of my letter.
After the end of tomorrow, I will give this to Deja after I clean my desk and stuff out secretly while working.
"Make sure to forward any remaining checks to this address," I wrote next.
After about 30 minutes, I had a solid letter.
Andy had yet to come back so I went to sneak and see what was taking him so long.
"Yeah yeah no we will be coming down so you guys will get to finally get to know her," Andy stated as I stood outside the ajar door.
I smiled to myself. I had not seen them. I couldn't go back with Andy to Florida in the last year and at least this random opportunity came about.
"We're going to Florida for our anniversary sort of. But it was her idea. She wants to know you guys too," he told someone again.
I assumed he was either talking to Barry or Maurice. It was hard to tell. He was close with both.
I kept eavesdropping.
"No, I haven't given her the promise ring yet. I don't know how she'll react. Maybe I should do that for our anniversary," he told the person on the phone.
A promise ring? I shouldn't have spoiled the surprise.
I walked in to hopefully stop his talk.
"Are the tickets booked?" I asked him in a whisper.
"Yeah they are. Did you hear anything?" he asked me.
I shook my head.
"No I wanted to see if you were done so you could read the letter I wrote for Deja and Carlos," I told him.
"Sure hold on darling," Andy remarked as he put the phone on speaker.
"Say hi to (Y/N)," Andy told the person on the phone.
"Hey how's it going," the male voice came through.
"Hello, it's going. I don't know which brother you are though," I commented.
I sort of knew their voices but on the phone was a different story.
He laughed.
"It's me, Barry," he told me.
"Oh makes sense," I commented as Andy looked at the letter.
I wrote about a page and a half.
"So I heard you two are coming to the Gibb Compound next week?" he asked.
"Yeah actually. I'm excited to get to know you all on a personal level," I told him.
"This looks good," Andy told me.
"We are too. It's been a long time coming," Barry remarked as Andy handed me the notebook again.
"Okay well you and your family take care and we will see you soon," I commented.
I glanced at the clock and realized I needed to get dinner going.
"You too. Take care," Barry told me as I left the room.
Andy got back to his conversation.
I went and got dinner made while also mentally preparing for tomorrow.
I was truly ready for this small break but also not ready to say goodbye to Violet again. But, she was planning in September when Andy and I go to Croatia to meet in Greece for those two days.
The evening came to a quick close and we were prepping to get into bed. I had been in bed for at least 20 minutes before Andy came waltzing in.
"I thought you would never join me," I teased him.
He chuckled.
"Sorry darling just made sure Sam was good for the night," he told me.
"I wonder what my new schedule will be like," I remarked as he crawled into bed next to me.
"I surely hope not as early as the crack of dawn," he replied as he adjusted the covers over himself.
"I pray not I'm so tired from it," I told him as I looked at the clock.
It was already after 9.
"Tonight is the last night for a while you have to worry about the time," he reminded me as we adjusted.
I sighed in relief ready for the new chapter to begin.
