September 3rd 1943

I wake with a jolt like always. Bronwyn is still sleeping in the bed beside me. I rub my eyes and yawn brushing my ginger hair out of my face.
I jump out of bed and brush out my hair. I put on a simple dress and walk downstairs. I go over to the calendar and cross off September third nineteen forty three. Horace and Olive are already seated and eating their breakfast. I go to the kitchen and fill my plate with bacon and toast.

Olive excitedly chatters while I eat. Enoch and Emma come down and fill their plates. Soon everyone's at the table eating. Claire whom is sitting next to me is dropping toast into her backmouth. Miss Peregrine comes down and takes a seat at the front of the table. We are all dismissed to do what we want. I walk outside with Olive who wants to play ball.

I sit against the large oak tree and watch Olive kick the ball in the air causing her to go upward. I jump up and rush to her. I pull her down by her shoe but it slips off and she floats out of  my reach. "Fiona!" I yell frantically. She rushes over and looks up at Olive. She holds out her hands making the giant statue of David she made for Miss P's birthday move its arm and catch Olive by the leg. The topiary slowly pulls her into my reach. I grab her around the waist and carry her into the house. "Where are your shoes?" I ask her. "Next to the front door." She says.
I grab them and secure them to her feet. She smiles at me and waddles away making clanking sounds with each stride.

I return to my tree watching the others play ball. I didn't see Olive anywhere. I panicked looking and searching the yard. I asked the others and finally Marcie pointed me in the right direction. I found Olive playing with Claire in the garden. I sat down next to them in the dirt.

We heard Miss Peregrine call for us and got up to go inside. Waiting for us was sandwiches apples vegetables and much more. We all gobbled down our lunches eager to return outside. We got up to open the door when Miss Peregrine said "It's time for lessons."
We sighed and slowly went upstairs. I sat down in my seat next to Millard who was reading Map of the days. "Hey Kaylah." He said. I blushed and brushed my hair out of my face. "Hi." I returned. Miss P walked in with at least three books in hand. "Alright everyone please put your books away and turn your attention to me. Our first lesson will be about a story from the Tales of the Peculiar! The little ones brightened with excitement but the older ones groaned and complained. The bird scolded us and continued "We will be reading the Splendid Cannibals!" Well no one could stop her. We tried to find ways to entertain ourselves while she read. I braided my hair and Bronwyn tossed a rock from hand to hand. The little ones however loved the story. The beamed with delight sitting their heads on their hands. Finally she finished and started to ask questions. "Now, What was the moral of the story?" Only Marcie raised her hand. "Yes Marcie?" The bird said "To use all your money to buy a nice house and die a slow painful death!" She answered. I cringed along with many others in the room. "No... how about you Kaylah." Miss Peregrine said "Um... be thankful of what you have?" I said unsurely "Yes! That is correct! Now we will read The fork tounged princess.

It went on like that. We read three more stories and listened to Marcie give her cringey answers. Finally lessons were over and we returned to the outdoors. I retreated to my tree watching the clouds move in the sky.
The sound of the ocean calmed me.
I felt a breeze blow on my face and through my hair. I smiled and closed my eyes. Soon enough sleepiness over took me and I drifted off to sleep.

I was shaken awake by Emma to come to dinner. Again Claire had isolated herself in the tea room. We dug into the goose set before us and tried our best to avoid the salad. We talked about the recent news until a large Boom made the room tremble. Then sirens blared and supprisingly it started to rain. "Children! Grab your gas masks and go outside it's a bomb attack." We listened to the bird and grabbed our masks.

I was halfway to the meeting point when I remembered that Claire was still in the house. I frantically ran inside and down two hallways to the tea room. I ripped open the door and saw Claire trapped under a chair tears streaming down her face. I ran towards her and pulled the chair off of her. Another bomb shook the house causing her to fall. I picked her up and carried her through the first hall before yet another bomb shook the house. This time I fell down and Claire fell in my lap. I got up and ran to the mud room with Claire in my arms.

We reached the mud room were I set her down. I grabbed the smallest gas mask off the walk and placed it on her face. It took some thinking but I eventually fastened the gas mask around her head. After fastening mine on we rushed outside to the David topiary. Miss Peregrine came over to me and said something I couldn't hear but I was sure it was thank you. I nodded and held Claire's hand tightly. "It will be alright." I said even though she couldn't hear me over the roaring of the planes. More planes streaked through the sky until one last one dropped a bomb right where we were standing.

I held Claire close awaiting our doom. I looked up my mouth gaping. The bomb was floating right on David's finger like he was balancing it himself. Then we watched the sky go backwards. The bomb went upward back into the plane and the day rewound itself to 2:00 am September third 1943.
It took us a while to realize that Miss Peregrine had created a loop.
She dismissed us off to bed without explanation. We pondered about it. I returned to my room again letting the ocean waves drift me off to sleep.
