Chapter XIV

"So tell me everything," My hand rest on my thigh, perched to hold me up.

"Everything they told you as a child is a lie."

"What do you mean?" I question.

"You know how the moon goddess is supposed to be the first of our kind," I sits on a stool next to me a leans in towards me. I lean in closer as if we're telling secrets. "That's something they made up."

"Who," I looked at him perplexed.

"The ancients they-," he stopped. "You have to keep this completely confidential," he looks sternly, deep into my eyes. "The ancients they changed a few thing around, to keep a few things secret."

"What kind of secrets."

"They-," we were disturbed. Interrupted by small girl, petite with long flowing hair.

"Sorry to interrupt, but Steven you're expected in the Alpha's office, it needs cleaning. Alpha Danella," she curtsied quickly, and scurried away. Like a mouse frantic and shaking like she's worried.

"Don't worry about her she's always like that, and for no reason," I turn to Steven, and smiling politely.

"I don't want to get you in trouble," I stand up ready to take my leave.

"Are you sure you don't want to hear the rest?" He asked still sitting on the chair.

"Well there's always another time," once I said that he got up. I followed him out of the series of corridors. Going our separate ways I walked towards the stairwell. Looking back I see that the day fleeting. The sky turned orange, getting darker by the minute. I hadn't realized it had gotten so dark. I suppose it was since winter was drawing near.

I continued walking upstairs, my head was pounding with thoughts. Thoughts of the war, thoughts of my responsibilities as an alpha, thoughts of what the servant told me most of all. I kept walking all the way up until I reach my floor. Peering down the hallway, my thoughts grew louder. He had told me something that my mind already knew. Bared deep inside. As if my head was swirling. It was just sitting there, waiting for me to figure it out. Walking deeper into down the hall, I finally reached my door. Going in and laying down on my bed. I just sat there alone with my thoughts. Until sleep consumed me.

My eyes fluttered open, turn to the now dark window. Sitting up straight I grabbed my phone, 1am. Almost five hours I've been asleep. Scratching head and getting up to look out the window. Looking out at the midnight blue sky. Up at the twinkling lights swimming amongst the sky. Mesmerized by the mystery of them.

Something down below caught my attention. A rustle in the leaves. Maybe it was curiosity or board hum, that made me jump from my window. Landing swiftly on the ground, with ease I got up following the scent.

The smell of pine invaded my nostrils. "Cassia?" I continued walking following her.

Weaving my way through endless trees. Getting deeper and more lost in the dense brush. Coming across a wall, a wall of dense green. It grew thicker, clumping together. Leaves arranged to hide, trees shielding something. I pushed past them, pricking and stabbing me.

"Dani," she spoke calm and serene as if she is expecting me.

"Cassia what are you doing out here," Looking at her becular, walking slowly around her.

"I thought you'd come sooner."

"Too what?" I started to feel sick, like the pit of my stomach was swirl. Telling me that something bad is going to happen.

"We've been waiting for you to come for a long time

"We? Cassia what are you-," she cut me off mid sentence. Even in this situation I consider this completely unacceptable.

"Sorry did you say we I mean I," crunching up my nose in confusion.

"I don't care what's going on, but you will not cut your alpha off!" My voice stern and powerful. She flinched back slightly.

"Did Steven tell you everything?" She asked, walking a little closer.

"You mean about the servant?" I question. She nodded yes, "No we were interrupted before he could tell me the full story."

"Well let me just sum it up for you. You're not even apart of kingdom,"

"What? Cassia let's get out the woods, we need sleep we have to go it's almost dawn," I reason.

"The bloodline, you have no connection to this kingdom. Your apart of something so much more." I look at her crazy.

"What are you talking about?" She continued.

"Your not apart of this family," she threw up air quotes around family.

"I'm so lost right now," I look at her crazy, "Cassia let's just go back to sleep and we can talk about this in the morning," I groaned.

She signs "You know how we're all supposed to be descendants of the moon goddess by like a million years." I nod my head 'yes'. "You aren't a descendant of her," she stopped momentarily, continuing when she saw how lost I was, "the moon goddess."

I finally understood what she was saying, and I almost doubled over in laughter. "What, you mean that stupid myth," and it came rushing back. "It's just because you want to know if she's one of them, if the stories are true," realization hit my like a train, "They just might be." I murmur to myself.
