Chapter X

It had been a few days since I saw Albany. I woke up the next morning numb. My wolf didn't whine, not a single thing about Max. My emotion where in check. My wolf was at bay. I signed in content.

I had got home alright. The king excused it since I was going to be an alpha. By now everyone heard the news, most were appalled, only a few thought I actually deserve it. But known of that mattered once I became alpha, respect was not something wavered.

I stretched extended my arm, I felt a crack. It was early, around seven. Looking down at my necklace I noticed it still glowed eminently. I got up from under my silk sheets. I looked around my unnaturally immaculate. Cassia cleaned my room, as a thank you. The room was as if I had never torn the place up, as if no one had ever stepped foot in here. After taking shower and getting dressed, I walked down stairs to the dining hall.

The ceremony was tonight, it was different then just adding someone into a pack. I was becoming an alpha. It would be known to all packs across the sea. Anyone who is a mythical creature knows i'm becoming an alpha. I didn't feel nervous, or anxious. I knew I belonged, that I was always meant to be an alpha.

The room was bustling with wolves. Mostly everyone was up either eating or talking to each other. The room was a separate part of the castle that was recently added on. Wood interior, while the outside compliments the rest of the estate with stone. A dark oak, torches lined the wall giving it a classic look.

"Hey alpha to be," Isaac walked up to me.

"Hey," we start to walk to the buffet. An array of food, from all corners of the earth.

"So are you nervous about becoming alpha?" he asked as we moved down the line. He was especially close. It was comforting. I smiled at him.

"No I just-," a growl powerful, booming through the hall. Everyone looked towards the entrance, there he stood.

"Get away from my mate," Max warned. He walked over slowly. Towered over Isaac intimating, striking fear in him.

"Isaac is fine where he is, you have no authority over him he's in my pack," I state sternly.

"You're not an alpha yet," he eyes still glued to Isaac.

I growled back, with just as much power. "If you don't move out of his way I will make you."

He looked at me, his eyes softened. Mine stayed dark. He backed up, letting me and Isaac through. Walk over to sit next to the rest of my pack. I took on last daring glare at him. Looking at him I notice how he was no long intimidating, now he was like a pup, weak. I felt nothing towards his sad eyes.

Turning back to my pack, listening to Cassia rambling. "I have no idea what to wear to the ceremony? The only time I saw one of these I serving, now I get to dress up. Should I go with sexy or, cute and girly."

"Won't your mate be a little upset when he sees you wearing that?" Ferra asked gloomily. She had been a little depressed lately.

"I'm not of age yet I'm still seventeen," she shrugged.

"Think mine was slaughtered along with the rest of my pack," Isaac spoke out. "If she is alive then wouldn't she be here?"

I looked everyone, a with somber faces. "Okay guys, this is a happy day for all of us," I looked around.

A loud banging sound ran through the hall. Everyone silenced, eyes facing the king. "Everyone I would like to say something on this occasion," he began. "Also you all know Daniela will be given the title alpha," he hand gestured towards me. I stood proudly. Once the king started up again, I sat down. "This hasn't been done since my great, great, great grandfathers picked his ten successors after the war. So not only are we a new alpha, this is also a historic moment," he finished. Everyone turned back to their conversations and food. The king gestured for me to come over.

Once I was in close vicinity he spoke, "We need you to pick out your outfit for the ceremony tonight," the king cut right to the chase.

"Okay so do I go to the mall or something?" I asked.

"No I have a few semesters who will make you dress to your liking," a part of me was stunned. But before I could get a word out they whisked me away. They lead me to a room, with mirrors decorating the walls. A sewing machine to the right and fabric on the left.

"Okay what would you like?" her accent was thick.

 "Ughh," I was completely lost.

Night had graced us with her presents. It was time for the ceremony. The new servant helped me back into my gown.

"You look dazzling, darling," I smile at them. "But do you have to wear that necklace?" she asked once again.

"It's a family heirloom it will bring me luck, I couldn't go without it," I lied right through my teeth.

"Fine, it is beautiful and will highlight your dress. But if the moon goddess is mad then I had nothing to do with it," they held their hand up in surrender.

"Thank you," I hugged Miriam and Catherine.

"You're going to be a great alpha," Miriam assured.

I smiled at her a we headed out. Everyone was already outside at the reception. I was mesmerized. Lights clinged on to canipes, white was the only color present. Everyone in simple white attire. Loose shirts and pants, with no shoes. Pointing out an alpha would be easy, since each of them were in loose white pants, and no shirt occupying their chest. I waited by a pair of double doors, hidden from everyone. Waiting patiently, for the moon to rise. The alpha stood at the podium, microphone in hand. Everyone was silent. "Pack members, alpha's and betas alike. We have joined here to welcome in a new leader, one who has shown great strength against oppressors."

"Okay open to the door," Catherine commanded.

"We know in these times of war, we need as much strength as possible, and Daniela and her pack would be a great addition," he finished his speech just as I was coming out. My gown had a train, plain and simple. It was tied and finished with a bow in the back. Everyone faced me, watching. The alphas stood on the same stage lined up leading to the stage, with the king up front in the middle. I notice Max among them and didn't give him a second look, as I walk past him. Once I got to the stairs, two servants held my hands leading me up.

I stood in front of two goblet, under the stars. Blood occupied the cup, dark and thick. "We must share in blood of the royals, as we let be known to all." He looked to me, "May the moon goddess bless you," looked back at him in the eyes. In unison everyone repeated, not a single voice stood out.

He took my hand, and with knife opened my skin. "This blood symbols a unity a bond to us, and now the rest of your 'pack' must do so as well," The feeling tingled as if someone made it so it wouldn't hurt. A drop of blood fell into mine, and a drop into his. One by one, everyone lined up, quickly slicing their palm. Dropping blood into our drinks. He took one raising it high for everyone to see. I took the other goblet in my hand, at the same time we drank. A bitter taste, the blood was thick and hard to guzzle down.

"On this night the moon is high and the goddess is watching. You are now alpha of the Dark Night pack," I smiled. But once his hand grasped a hold of mine a surge of energy followed through me. As if I was be hit by a waterfall, it was warm and comforting. My eyes glowed red for a moment and vanished. All while everyone stood and cheered. But it was all a cluttered mess in my head. Only thing that was clear in my mind. It filled my heart with warmth, over all the cheers and my new found power. It was all I could think.

 Max.
