Chapter VI
Rubbing my hands over my forehead. My fingers scraping my temples. I glare down at my white walls. The bland plain walls, I stared them down. Maniacally. Lost in the vast space that is my mind. Dazed, in my conflicted thoughts.
"Hey, I guess we're not having a sleepover," her voice rang through my ears, they brought me out of my thoughts.
"Huh- what. Yeah, yeah we're still on for a sleepover," I smile never letting it reaching my eyes.
"Your sure you're up for this?" Ferra walks over sitting on the bed besides me.
"Yeah I'm fine, I just have a lot on my mind."
"Okay," she nudges my slightly to the side, I push her back, "I also invited Kara and Cassie."
"That's fine," I answer.
"I'll go tell them then," She walks out leaving the door ajar.
I walk out my room. Wandering through the halls, aimlessly. Turning pointless corners, going down the meaningless stairs. Walking aimlessly, still an agitating forced stopped me.
"Wow fancy seeing you here," Max smiled.
"Yeah I never expected to see you on your floor," I bitterly snapped back.
"You really should control your temper, save it for the battle field."
I huffed ready to stomp off, I wasn't in the mood. But there he was again. "Hey wait," his hand blocked me from moving, "why are you so puffed up in the first place."
"Are you serious, we in the middle of war," I start to list, "And I walked my pack right into this without know that where all going to die most likely," Since we have a small army." My voice rises, "Everyone hates us!" I yell. No doubt everyone heard, "So you tell me why I'm mad," I finish looking at him, pushing his arm I storm off.
"Hey if you ever need a shoulder," I glare at him warning. "My offer is still on the table." He raises his hand in defense as I continue walking down the stairs.
I found myself in the kitchen. I bang my head on the counter "Would you like something to eat?" blonde hair, brown eyes asked me.
I guess I could eat, "Yeah sure where's the bread?"
"I will get it alpha, you just sit still," she wavered.
"No I'm good I have a small problem with being waited on. You honestly don't have to," I shake my head.
"No really it's no inconvenience," she smiled fearfully.
"I'm good thanks," I sit at the counter, hand pushing my face is unnaturally. After a dead minute I spoke again, "What's your name?" trying to strike up conversation.
"Carmen," she answers quietly.
"Well I'm Danelia, but my friends call me Dani," I stick my hand out gesturing for her to shake it. Her hand lightly touches mine. After she rest her hand down her head falls with it, "Hey, I'm having a sleepover with some other girls in my pack, you want to join?" I try to see past her thick brown shield of hair.
She looks up at me boisterous, "I would love to, but I can't," at that moment she shifts back to her somber mood.
"Come on, no one will bother me with me around. I won't leave you," I reassure.
She looks back up at me, huffs humorously, "No I physically can't leave," her hands pointed down. I see a silver ankle bracelet.
"I'm serving my punishment, I have to pay off my debt before I leave," she smiled bleakly to me.
"And what debt would that be?" My curiosity had me asking questions.
She looked up at me, "You really want to know don't you," she huffed with a chuckled.
"My parents committed a few crimes in the past, and now that their dead I have to pay back the king what they stole from him," I never realised that there were these kind of slaves in the castle. In that instance I made a decision.
"Stop. You're taking a break. Come with me, my friends would love to have you,"
"Um remember the ankle bracelet."
I looked down at the silver ankle bracelet. I look up smiling to her. Then I ripped it off, clean. Not even a stinging feeling or burn marks left. But her skin was beat red with bruses decorating her ankle. She looked at me in utter awe, "Ho-," I put my fingers to my lips, signaling her to keep this quiet.
"Our little secret," I wink.
She leans in whispering, "Are you even a werewolf?" She asked.
"Of course I am," answering simply. She smiles, I start to walk up as she follows.
"Wait what about the king," she stops in fear, shaking. Standing at the top of the stairs.
"I will deal with the king personally if he asks, you have nothing to worry about," she nods, still a hint of fear lingering. We continued walking, until we got into the elevator for floor five. A ding sound and we left to go to my room. Entering the room we see Kara, Cassia, and Ferra waiting.
"What took you so long?" Ferra spoke attempting to sound agitated.
"I had to help a friend," I shrug, continuing to walk in.
"Oh hi," Cassia waves.
"Hello," Carmen meckley answers back.
"So Dani what did they say at the alpha's meeting?" Cassia questioned. I felt my sadness trying to devour me again.
"You'll find out tomorrow," I brush it off.
"Carmen, what pack are you from?" Ferra asks this time.
"I'm a rogue, I'm a servant here in the castle," she lowers her head in shame.
"That's something we all have in common," Cassia states.
"Really," she was astonished. It was hard to find servants in packs. "But there is such power coming from all of you,"
"Yeah we didn't found that out until later, would have come in handy."
From that point Carmen opened up, feeling almost at home. All my previous feelings vanished leaving to enjoy the rest of the evening. We laughed, talked about the cute male wolves. The evening was just what I needed. Not only where we happy, Carmen was too. She was laughing, no longer the sad slave she was before. She reminded me why I do this, to help people. She lifted my spirits, making me feel like myself. And just for a moment all my worry vanished.
