Chapter lV

I looked forward, straight ahead. Passing tree after tree, green brush thick and dense. I studied everything as it whizzed by, as the miles slowly diminished. As we got closer and closer, to the castle. As we grew closer, the atmosphere grew thicker. Dense and a cold feeling enclosed on the car. Wrapping it's carnivorous arms around us. In one quick glance I looked at everyone. They all studied the forest like I did. Looking out into the windows ignoring the every other wolf in the car. I look back, the road is gravel. It rumbles and jumps moving the car along with it. A stop sign came into view as I slowed down for a moment, looking over at Ferra sitting in the passenger seat. She wore the same look on her face as everyone else, the same one I bare.

Mid afternoon came and went like molasses. We stopped to eat and that's all we did. Striking up conversation would have been pointless. We continued driving with several other cars accompanied us.

It wasn't until Four when a big sign forged in gold letters saying 'private property'. I held my breath, reading it over and over. As if it was a dream, or I was being punked.

"I know that suspense can be exhilarating," she spoke with an exaggerated tone, "but the faster we get in the faster we can leave," Ferra knocked me out of my trance.

"Oh. . . yeah right," I press my foot to the petal and continue driving. The long winding road made the place iry and dark. Trees surrounding us left and right. Dense forest made the place seem darker. I could have sworn eyes were following us, seeing something distance behind the brush. I ignore it, I pressed on, miles until I was face to face with it.

Double door iron gates. Black with the letters A K smeared on it.

"Park in front of the gate," A wolf barks, from the loudspeaker.

I park in a patch of grass, along with our other five cars. Out of one of the vehicles came the beta. Tied up, fresh burn marks vertically lined on his face. The double doors open allowing us in, we walked cautiously. A few feet up several wolves stood. Arms crossed, sterns looks on their faces. Alphas cold and vicious. I could sense the fear within the rest of my pack, they freezed up internally. Putting my hands behind my back signaling to calm them.

"Hey mutts, only packs are allowed inside," a wolf spoke. With venom between his teeth as he said mutt.

I ignored his ignorant remark, and continued walk past all the angry scowls. Several of them decided to block our path. "We said no mutts allowed," an alpha spoke now. Staring me down, attempting to intimidate with a scowl.

I took several steps closer feeling his hot breath on me. "If you want to stay there and lose an eye, fine by me. But I think it'd be best for you to move." Stated, low so only he and his buddies could hear. That's when I flew across the courtyard. Flying several feet, before landing on the cold, hard grass. I shot back up to stare down at the mutt. In a low crouch I released a menacing growl. Noticing several wolves now surrounding him, clawing and biting. Other packs tried the pry my wolves off of him, but to no avail. The situation grew with more rage and anger.

The sound of torn clothing and beastly growls was all that was heard. Before all hell broke out.

Paws ripping through the dirt, flying everywhere as they charged. Growls sounded as a few of the alpha's leap. One of them directly in front of me, his jaws widen revealing his mighty fangs. My hands grab between his powerful jaws. As they tried to clamp down, I pushed. Up and back as I through him. Landing back a few feet, two more came and joined him charging. I breathed heavily as I they got closer. Glaring down at them, they crashed into me, knocking me over. Quickly getting up, I claw at one of the wolves. Blood protruding out of the wound. Causing the other two to come at me faster. Harder. Growling, I run up to meet them. Slamming into, I forced them back a bit. Giving myself enough time the catch my breath. Inhaling, I take on the alpha once again. Swiping his mammoth paw at me, I duck. Punching my fist on his fur pellet. Blood oozing from his mouth. Stunned for a moment then he relapsed. Shaking his head violently, he looks around, as do I. My pack evenly matched with everyone else, some better. I look back at the alpha, intently watching. I was tired, and done with this fight. Within seconds I was face to face with him. He sensed me looking my direction. He seemed tense, and yet curious to what I was about to do. Pulling at the fur until I had a good grip, I lifted him up. His body rested against the wall of the castle. "Shift," I commanded, staring directly into his black eyes.

Dead and soulless like every other alpha. His bones rearranged himself, until he was human. Eyes are still nothing but an empty abyss. His body stark naked, but I was too focused on his face to care. Shaking, he looked at me as if I was the monster under his bed from his childhood. I tighten my grip, feeling my anger consume me, "You know-," I was janked back.

Thrown across the field, feet away from where I was originally. I up at a wolf, enormous and black to match his eyes. Blood falling out of the gaping hole on his face. Anger was an obvious emotion he sported with him. His paw rested on my chest, slowly I started to pull it off. Shoving off of me, I get up. Only to be surrounded by alpha's, they enclosed my in a tight circle. I looked at all sides of me. They started to pull, at me, clawing. Clawing at wounds that never healed. Bring me back into my old self. Their powerful jaws started to clamp down on my limbs. Scraping my skin off slowly, from all sides I was attacked. I was now lying on the floor. As I tried to claw at their eyes and nose. But it was as if I was sixteen again, helpless and afraid. They tore, at my clothes and skin leaving it tattered.

Physically drained I laid there motionless. 'Maybe we weren't ready to come back' I pondered as the started to throw my around, as if I was a chew toy. My eyes were no longer the only thing on my that were red. Even those slowly started to fade. I felt my body starting to give out, and I let it. After all I'm just a worthless mutt. My blinking slowed, as I started to fade away, into nothing. Worthless, a thing I tried not to be for so long.

A startling yelp, grabbed my attention, reeling me in as a fish on a hook. Long blonde curls, starring me down. Connected to a young sixteen year old who I knew all too well. "Leave my alpha alone!" Alice shouts, as fire blazed.

Circling around us. Growing, I could feel it's scorching flames burning my slightly. As I slowly started to regain my strength, I was ready to tell her to stop. Resting on my elbows I take a deep breath. "Stop!" The voice was powerful and strong.

The fire ceased. It caused all the wolves to shifted back into human form. Fear striking all their faces. Silence fell among everyone. But I hadn't uttered a word, it wasn't my voice but the voice of a man. A very powerful man. "Quite your little skirmish we have going on here, but we're all here to unit not to prove which pack is superior," booming throughout the courtyard.

"But you," pathway split down the middle.

Everyone's eyes focused on me. I sat on my elbows, as look at him. Young and handsome was written on his forehead, long blonde hair rest on his ears. A smile heavily set under his nose, with a wide grin plastered on his face. The alpha king looked at me in approval. "Your little group, hold it's own against three times as many wolves. The rest of you can learn a lot from, if only you were a pack. And it is my duty as king to follow our code of conduct, and have our criminals properly dealt with."

"What are you saying?" I asked, my voice just loud enough for everyone to hear me.

"Daniela, you have committed acts of theft, multiple acts of kidnapping and torture," he responded.

"What does this mean?" I dare ask, fearing in what he might say next.

"You and your little band of merry men, will be put to trial to where a jury will see your crimes," he finished.

Then it dawned on me, they didn't consider us a pack. They looked at us as if we were criminals, and in their eyes we were. I was. The only reason that the king requested us to come, is to put us on trial. I made my pack come all the way against their will, just to be put to jail, go back to the life we once had. The second I crossed the threshold, I gave up everything we worked so hard for.

Thanks for reading, this is one of my favorite chapters, and I hope you liked it just as much as I did.
