Chapter I (sample)
It's silent, finally. The sound of my breath in and out, in and out. It echos throughout the forest. Like all my senses honed in on my breaths. How fast they were, how nothing else seem to matter. Looking around frantically at the dense forest I see empty shells. Although what was left wouldn't be considered a shell. The bodies of former wolves. Ripped a shred to pieces, unrecognizable. Shells of wolves I once knew, they were dear to me. Had a place in my heart that was now ripped and torn to shreds like they were. I felt every bone in my body shake, vibrating uncontrollably.
But this wasn't after shock, it wasn't the feeling of being left alone. This is how it felt to watch these people die knowing that your next. Feeling his breath, icy. Sticking to me, like a tattoo, permanent. I felt his presence behind. Then every morning I'd jolt up and all I remember is the terrifying shriek that follows.
