Bihter is a young woman who lives in a household with two young men. One of them is her husband and the other one a friend of her husband. She married a rich man, whom she seems not to love, but to respect because of his money. Without him, she could not afford all of her clothes. Therefore she tries to adapt herself to her new everyday life. Falling in love with Behlül, knowing this is not the right path, illustrates that she only acts out of feelings and is not scared by consequences but is convinced and courageous on her path. The relationship can be characterized by deep affection. She wants to establish a new life and would like to get rid of the precarious state she is in. Her endeavoring to persuade her boyfriend about her plans demonstrates her desire to make this dream come true. His resisting and insisting to keep the secret farther a secret seems to weaken the attachment that they feel for each other and suggest that she loves him more that he loves her. She no more can bear him having a new girlfriend and falling into oblivion in his eyes. She fluctuates between committing suicide and taking revenge on him. This implies a rebellious streak in her. At the end of the day, she decides to commit suicide, with which she also takes revenge.

To put it in a nutshell, at the beginning of the story Bihter seems to be a strong woman who is convinced by her own decisions and wants them to come true. In the course of the story, she is entirely occupied in trying to persuade her boyfriend by her decisions, which at the end of the day are not coming true. The close relationship changes in the course of the story, when Behlül finds a new girlfriend and no more shows interest to Bihter anymore. Nonetheless, Bithers feelings toward him remain the same and with that indicates that the attachment she has for her loved ones is very strong. At the end of the story by committing suicide Bihter shows that she is not as strong as she seems to be at the beginning of the story. Her character does fundamentally change because of the circumstances she encounters.
