girl meets world: of terror
FARKLE WAS clutching onto Mr. Matthews desk while he grabs hold of him.
"No no no no no!" Farkle shouted.
"Let go, Farkle. It's only gym class." Mr. Matthews told him.
"They throw things at me!"
"Who?"
"Sophia!" He shouted and the sound of crashing thunder came along.
"I'm the pitcher."
"They make me stand there in front of everybody!"
"He's the batter." Riley said.
"There's a girl behind me in a mask!"
"That'd be the Maya the catcher, sir." Lucas told him.
"And then somebody screams."
"That's the umpire." Mr. Matthews asked.
"No, that's me." He said.
"I'm still not gonna write you a note for gym class, Farkle. It's softball. What could possibly go wrong in softball?" He told him.
Farkle wasn't going anywhere and by the time he would get off would to get to his own wedding.
"Get off."
Gym
"Batteries up!" Coach Gleason shouted as Farkle walked towards the home plate.
"It's raining outside. Why are we playing softball inside? We should be playing dodgeball. No, wait! What am I talking about? We should be square dancing. Yeah! We should be swinging our partner!" He said thinking of hundreds of excuses.
"You should be swinging your bat, Farkle. Get in there! What are you afraid of?" Coach asked.
"I'm afraid of getting hit by the ball, coach." He whispered.
"You're afraid of getting hit by the ball?" The coach shouted.
"I'm also afraid of public humiliation."
"You're afraid of public humiliation? Quit your bellyaching. She throws straight as a rope." Coach told him.
Sophia threw the softball and Farkle ducked.
He said it sounded like thunder.
"Check, check, check her out. Check our little pitcher out!" Riley cheered.
"Riles?" Sophia said.
"All right. Third base. I'm ready." She said, "What hand does this thing go on?"
"You know what hand it goes-" Maya cut her off.
Thomas walked over and put the glove on her hand.
"Oh..."
"Thanks." Riley told Thomas.
"Yeah, okay." Thomas said.
Riley, somehow, someway had the courage to slap his butt.
"Yeah, I did that."
"Why do I have to be up?" Farkle asked.
"Why does anybody have to be up, Farkle? Why does anybody have to be anything? Why do I have to be a gym teacher? I could be a ballerina! Doo, doo, doo! Doo, doo, doo! Don't work, do it? Know why? 'Cause I'm a gym teacher and you're up!" Coach shouted.
Farkle groaned, picking up the bat and once he is ready to hit the ball Sophia threw the ball and it hits the edge of his bat and he posed.
"Wait, can he do that?" Sophia asked.
"He's in the batter's box. Ball one!" Coach said.
Sophia threw the ball again but this time Farkle screamed.
"Ball two!"
"He's rattling my pitcher, Coach. He's doing it on purpose. He's an evil, genius mastermind." Lucas said from behind.
After he walked out on her, the two really haven't interacted, not as much as they wanted to anyway.
"Yeah? I don't think he is." Maya said.
Sophia was about to throw another pitch but the lights in the gym suddenly turn to go out.
"Aww, too bad. Darn. Heck. See you in science, suckas. And let me tell you something, Sophia, you ain't all that. I would've hit the next one right out of the pa-"
But then the lights came back on.
Sophia had a smirk on her face.
"You look pretty." He said looking dead at her.
"Move."
"I'm good right here." He said standing face-to-face.
"You wanna spend the rest of your life scared?" Coach asked him.
"I was planning on it, sir."
"Get in the box, Farkle."
Farkle goes back to the batter's box about to face another pitch but Lucas walked up to her.
"Time out." He said, "All right, you're done, Sophia."
"What?"
"I'm taking you out."
"You're not my type." She joked.
"Oh really." He mumbled.
"What did you say?"
"Nothing just that I'm taking you out of the game."
"What?!"
"Sophia, Sophia, say goodfia!"
"Riley!" She shouted.
She was driving her insane with cheers.
"Yes?"
"What do you think you're doing?" Sophia asked him.
"You haven't thrown a strike. I think Farkle's in your head, kid."
"But he's all "Wah! Wah! Flah!""
"I know how to pitch to him, Sophia. I know what to do. Take shortstop."
She believed him and gave him the ball.
"Okay, Lucas, nice and slow, okay?" Farkle said.
"Yeah. How's this for slow?"
It was like slow motion, Riley cheering, Maya trying to stop her from cheering, Thomas looking at Riley and Lucas is looking back at Sophia, but it was all in slow motion.
After the slow-motion thing, Farkle was on the floor and Lucas walked up to him.
"Hey."
"You did that on purpose."
"Yeah, I did."
"Why would you do that?"
"I did it for you, Farkle."
"You threw that as hard as you could?"
"Pretty much. How do you feel?"
"I'm... fine. Doesn't even hurt, really."
"Right." Lucas said helping him up.
"Huh. Thanks a lot."
"Anytime. Trick or treat tonight?"
"Absolutely."
"You got hit. Get to take your base, Farkle." Coach said.
"Don't want it, coach." Farkle said pointing to Sophia.
"You. Bring it."
Sophia took the baseball from Lucas, she was about to pitch but Riley cheered again.
"Farkle, Farkle, gonna sparkle!"
She threw the ball and to their surprise he hit it.
"Yeah!"
"Whoo!"
Hallway
"Whoo! Thank you, Farkle Nation!" They heard Farkle shout.
"So, Halloween sleepover at my house to do candy trades?" Riley asked.
"Yeah, except... why don't we do it at my house?" Maya asked her.
"Yeah, why don't you sleep at Maya's this year?" Sophia asked.
She saw Mr. Matthews come out of his classroom.
"Because we've already agreed to have it in my room every single year forever." She said.
"Why are you so afraid to sleepover at my house?" Maya asked her.
"I'm not."
"You've never made it through a whole night there." Sophia told her.
"Tell her that's not true, Dad."
"I can't, Honey. I'm the one that has to get up in the middle of the night and get you when you secretly call me."
"I wake up every morning and you're not there. It makes me feel bad." Maya said.
"I would never make you feel bad."
"Then we want you to stay one night... all night... Tonight." Sophia told her.
"Riley, get over this fear." Mr. Matthews told her.
"Because you want me to grow out of this?"
"Because I want to sleep."
"Could you at least drive me there?"
"To Maya's House of Horrors?"
"Funny dad, Dad?"
He was nowhere in sight.
"Let's go." She said as they walked to Maya's.
Maya's Bedroom
"All right. How's it going so far?" Sophia asked.
Riley was curled up into a ball on Maya's bed.
"It's good. I'm good. A little bit noisy." She said.
"Different part of town."
"What's that? What's that? What's that?" She said looking out of the window.
"That's Ginger." Maya told her.
"Hi, Ginger. I'm Riley."
Ginger just hissed at her.
"I don't know how to tell you this, but your new cat's possessed." Riley told her.
"It's a ferret, and it's Sophia's." She told her.
"Ohh, I don't know how to tell you this, but your new cat's a ferret. Here you are, Ginger." Riley said putting Ginger on Maya's bed.
"I wouldn't do that." Sophia told her.
"Does he let you know when he needs to pee?" Riley asked.
"That's why I wouldn't do that." Sophia told her.
"Oh, I get it now."
"Okay, bye-bye, Ginger." Maya said picking up Ginger as Riley switches her pillow with Maya's.
"Okay, Riley, I'm gonna turn off the lights now." She said.
"No! I don't like it completely dark. I like it just a little bit light." Riley said.
"No problem. Watch." Maya said as she turned off the lights.
The light from the new bunny mart shined through the window.
"Aww, baby bunny. Baby bunny growing. Maya! Sophia!"
"Come here." Sophia told her, "They opened a new bunny mart across the street."
"Oh."
"All you're seeing in the shadows of the neon sign where the little bunny gets bigger and bigger." Maya told her.
"Oh."
"Can we go to sleep now?" Sophia asked.
She was getting more and more tired.
"Yeah. It's just shadows. Shadows can't hurt me. Your house is nice and I am safe." She said as she gets into bed with Maya and Sophia, and removes her pillow.
"I'ma be okay. I'ma be okay, I'ma be okay."
"Something else is here, something else is here. Goodbye, Riley, Goodbye, Riley. Goodbye, Riley, it's gonna eat me now. Maya!"
"No, it's me, Gammy. Come on, give me a hug."
"Hi, Gammy Hart. How have you been?"
"Well, I'm still kicking, Ri-Ri. The old Grim Reaper has gotta move a lot faster to catch up with me. Yeah. Not Today, Sammy." She said as she left the room.
"Maybe if I didn't see the shadows, I could actually go to sleep."
"Fine. Anything to get you to sleep." Maya said and closed the blinds.
"You know, Maya, Sophia, if it would be easier for you, I could always call my father and save me, Daddy. She has scary bunnies." She said.
"No. You're gonna make it through the night, you're gonna stay at her house and you're gonna be comfortable." Sophia told her and took the phone.
"I don't understand, because I really like it during the day."
"So as long as this curtain is up..."
"I'm gonna be okay. I promise."
"Good."
"Just shadows. Shadows are just shadows. They can't hurt me. No problem at all."
Sophia sat up and looked out the window and saw three shadows.
"Okay." Riley said as she and Maya are sitting up looking at the shadows.
All three of them screamed.
Sophia stood up and opened the window and saw Lucas, Farkle, and Thomas.
"Boo!"
They screamed again.
"Ladies."
"Farkle!"
"Trick or treat." Lucas said.
"Why are you screaming? You scared us." Farkle asked.
"What are you guys doing here?" Sophia asked.
"We were passing by on our way home. We thought we'd say hi." Thomas said.
"In the middle of the night?" Riley asked.
"It's a quarter after seven." Lucas told her.
"Then why'd you have me go to sleep, Maya?"
"She was trying to put us out of our misery." Sophia told her.
"What are you scared of Riley? It's great out here." Thomas told her.
"There's nothing to be scared of." Farkle said.
"I hear boys. You got boys in here?" Gammy asked.
"They're outside." She answered.
Her grandma came into the room.
"Oh. Oh, hiya, boys!" She said laughing.
"Scary old lady." Farkle said.
"Farkle. Oh." She said leaving the room.
"Come on, Lucas and Thomas. Wanna learn how to attract older ladies?"
"No." They said and left.
"Bye, guys."
"See you."
"You know what?" Riley asked.
"What?" We asked.
"You don't actually need to cover the window." She said.
"Why not?" Maya asked.
"I was actually scared of Farkle until he took his mask off. And when he did, it was just Farkle." She said.
"Yeah. Farkle's not scary at all." Sophia told her.
"No, and neither is your neighborhood. Once you take its mask off." She said.
"It's actually kind of pretty. I never noticed that before." Sophia said.
The three of them looked out the window.
"Yeah. I like your house, Maya." Riley told her.
"Thank you, Riley. That makes me happy."
"Good." She said.
"So you wanna go to sleep now?" Sophia asked.
"In a little bit. You mind if we stay up awhile?"
"Why? Are you still a little bit scared?"
"Not anymore. I just wanna see what happens next."
