girl meets texas part three

THE GROUP had finally made it back to New York and Maya said something happened between her and Thomas.

"Riley, Sophia I have to tell you something."

"I don't want to know." Riley said.

"Whatever it is hopefully it'll work out."

"Riles, something happened."

"I don't need to know what happened."

"No, I need to tell you. You two need to know."

"Maya, I know a lot of things are going to happen."

"You know what else I know?"

"I liked the new boy and you stepped back for me And then I saw how scared you were for him. You need to feel whatever you feel."

"How could I ever keep that from you?"

"Whatever happens, happens and I have faith in you two."

The three of them made their way down the hall, soon meeting Lucas and Thomas halfway.

"My brother! Hey!" Riley shouted and threw her fist at his face but he caught it.

Thomas smiled, "Hi. Hey, Riley. You know, um I want to thank you again for believing in me and giving me the confidence that I would be okay."

"I will always believe in you. And I will always be here." She said.

"Thank you, Riley."

"Hi."

"Hey."

"Hey."

"Hi."

"Wow." He said and walked into the classroom.

"Can we talk?" Lucas asked Sophia.

"Right now?"

"That would be great."

"Well can't talk right now I have classes to get to and ironically you have the same class and I'll talk to you after."

"Promise?"

"I'll talk to you after."

"Promise me."

"I promise to talk to you after."

"Thank you." He said and walked into the classroom.

"Are you gonna talk to him after?" Riley asked.

"I was but then he made me promise."

"You have talk to him." Maya said.

"If you don't have to talk to Thomas, I don't have to talk to Lucas. If things are gonna be awkward let them be awkward. I don't even want a relationship right now and when I do want one you two will be the first to know because you're my best friends."

"Hey, Riley."

"Hi, Charlie." Riley said.

"Charlie Gardner!" Maya said.

"Stop it." Sophia said.

"Cheese souffle!"

"Maya, we just got back." Sophia sighed, "What could he possibly know? Who could have possibly said anything?"

The two of them turned around and looked at Zay.

"He made me." He said.

"How did he make you?" Riley asked.

"I was like, "you wanna hear a great Riley story?" He said, "Yes.""

"I heard you and Thomas are just gonna be friends." He said.

"Actually we are."

"I heard you're free. Are you free?" He asked.

"I don't want this." Mr. Matthews said.

"We're confused." Maya said.

Sophia corrected, "They're confused."

"Weren't you supposed to talk to Lucas after school?" Topanga asked.

"I made up an excuse."

"Which was?"

"That I had to go to the hospital, which wasn't really an excuse I really had to go."

Sophia's nana had been in the hospital since Texas.

"I don't want this either." Topanga said.

"We're going into high school." Sophia said.

"Do you know what your priority is in high school?" Topanga asked.

"High school." Mr. Matthews said.

"It's where you further your minds and you get an education."

"You know why?"

"So that you're smart enough to not find yourself in a situation like this."

"We're not in a situation. Everything's fine." Riley said.

"Maya?"

"We're in a situation."

"They're in a situation." Sophia corrected, "Why do we have to have feelings?"

"You don't. Get rid of 'Em." Mr. Matthews said.

"You think you like Thomas?" Topanga asked Maya.

"How can you not like him?"

"I didn't think you liked anybody." Mr. Matthews said.

"It's my facade."

"Don't use big words correctly. It's not who ya are."

"We're Riley, Maya, Sophia." Riley said.

"We know our priorities And nothin' and nobody could ever come between us." Maya said.

"You are three confused kids who think you know what you're doing."

"But you don't. So, don't do anything." Mr. Matthews said.

"Nothing is as easy as it seems when feelings are involved." Topanga said.

"Mom, it is easy. Thomas is like my brother and I want Maya to be happy."

"You think being the master of tombstone the bull and bucking off of a horse is hard?" Topanga asked.

"That is nothing compared to being the master of your feelings, Riley. They will shake you around and they will send you flying. Sometimes you hold on and sometimes you let go. It's the scariest ride there is."

"Well, what do you want us to do?" Sophia asked.

"Don't feel. I want you not to feel." Mr. Matthews said.

"Do they have to go to high school?" Topanga asked.

"No! I have the power. I can hold them back."

"Dad, you can't hold us back.
We're growing up."

"Can I hold them back?"

"No." Topanga said.

"Can anything hold them back?"

"No."

"Are you okay, Riley?" Topanga asked.

"I'm going to need to figure that out."

"Sophia?"

"I'll figure it out."

"Are you okay?" She asked Maya.

"I'm gonna need to let them figure that out." Maya said.

"Oh, no they're gonna figure it out." Mr. Matthews said, "What do we do?"

"We trust them." Topanga said.

"That's the worst idea I've ever heard."

"The hoover dam on the arizona/nevada border holds back ten trillion gallons of confused fourteen year old feelings that look to smack down the concrete structure of your life and my life, and it can't take it and I don't want it, so everybody sit here and nobody move! Because as strong as the structural integrity of the hoover dam might be, just one little, tiny drop of water that makes its way through this barrier will chip away at the structural integrity of our lives as we know them, and the immediate result is the end of my personal happiness! So, your assignment is to hold everything back until I die and not let anything through!" Mr. Matthews said, "Riley, what's that?" He asked looking at the note.

"Nothing."

"Riley did something get through?"

"Riley, something happened between me and Thomas."

"Oh, boy." Thomas said.

"Yes, Charlie. I will go out with you." Riley said.

"Sophia." Lucas said.

"He said sit don't move, no." Sophia said.

Mr. Matthews sighed, "Hoover dam."

"Isn't it amazing how comfortable we are with each other?" Riley said.

"No! I don't feel comfortable at all." Thomas said.

"This is the kind of thing that we could never do, Thomas, when we were just hi, howdy, hey, hi."

"Now you know what we are?" Riley asked.

"Poom!" She said and hit him in the arm.

"Could you maybe not hit me anymore?" Thomas asked.

"You're my brother. Be my brother. Give me advice, feel good about it, and nothing will ever be uncomfortable at all."

"Okay, let's try. What do you need advice on?"

"The Charlie Gardner of it all.
What does a first date mean in the language of "boy"? I want to break your code. What does he want? Tell me! What?" Riley asked.

"Yeah Charlie gardner. I'm not uncomfortable at all. Where is your dad? Why isn't he kicking me out? I'm in your daughter's room!" Thomas shouted.

"Yeah, I see ya! You sure this isn't just so he gets to sit there and be there with her like that?" Mr. Matthews asked.

"No, this is real." Topanga said.

"Why do you need another brother?" Auggie asked.

"I'm just trying to do everything best for everybody concerned." Riley said.

Maya and Sophia sighed, "I'm concerned."

As the class followed into the classroom they saw Riley, Maya, and Thomas written on the board.

"Matthews, we know that everything you teach is always about us, but this is just lazy!" Maya said.

"I don't have the time! I'm going right for it! You don't think I could mash this up with the end of world war ii if I wanted to? America loves Russia! Then America doesn't love Russia! Japan loves France now! Japan asks France to go bowling! So they go on a couple of dates, but then Japan says to France, "I just want to be friends." So France says, "I got enough friends." So they try to be civil with each other, but there's a certain chill while they're hanging out by the lockers. There's a chill! You don't think everyone in this room is going bowling with everybody else at some point? Riley, Maya, and Thomas is all about everybody in this room, in every room, in the whole world, and the universe! They just got there first! The jerks!" Mr. Matthews said.

"Dad!"

"You're going to high school.
You are growing up in spite of my wishes. It's real now. What's happened already is nothing compared to what's gonna happen to you now. I just don't want anything bad to happen to you. Don't let anything bad happen to you!"

He walked over to the spinning chair and grabbed his bag and walked out.

"The class isn't over yet, sir." Lucas said.

"Nah, I've had it."

Topanga's

Zay, Lucas, and Sophia were sitting at the table watching Maya and Thomas having their "date".

"So this is our new relationship?" Maya asked.

"Yeah. How's it going so far?" Thomas asked.

"Weird, man!" Zay shouted.

"You three don't have to watch." Maya said.

"We can't look away!"

"And we have nothing else to do." Sophia added.

"Actually I think we can leave." Lucas said.

"I think I said we have nothing else to do."

Farkle walked in look at Maya and Thomas.

"How's it goin'?"

"Look at 'Em!"

"You think they like each other?" Sophia asked.

"I do. But I think they liked each other better when she was yelling at him all the time." Zay said.

"What about Riley and Thomas?"

"Well, I met Thomas the same day I met Riley and she's just like him." Zay said.

"How?" Lucas asked.

"Well, the thing we all knew about Thomas is Thomas would do anything for his friends. And I never thought there could be anybody else like that, but Riley is." Zay said.

"So you think they are like brother and sister?" Farkle asked.

"No, I just think they have a lot in common. I mean, Riley would do anything for her friends, too."

"Yeah. And I think she did." Farkle said.

"So what are you thinkin'?" Thomas asked.

"Oh, now? Oh, it's so funny you mention that. Actually, right now, in this exact moment, what I was thinking, what was running through my head was actually, if you don't start talking to me, I'm gonna pour this smoothie right over your head. So, why don't you give me the best you got?" Maya said.

"Did I ever tell you once, I tried out for the football team and quit after three days?"

Maya looked at him and smiled then poured the smoothie all over him.

"Actually, on day three my barf looked kind of like this. The miracle of life."

Sophia added, "Now I don't want my smoothie, the miracle of life."

Bay Window

Maya and Sophia crawled through the window and sat down.

"Oh, thank goodness. Okay, she's all yours." Topanga said and laid Riley's head on Sophia's lap.

"She drools a little." She said running away.

"Go to school. Brush your teeth. Comb your hair." Sophia said.

"You're not my mother."

"No, it's us." Maya said.

"How did you time with Thomas go?"

"It we sat there with absolutely nothing to say."

"Been there, done that."

"Yeah, well you guys won't have to worry about that anymore now that you're brother and sister, you know. You guys have loads to to talk about."

"I love talking to him."

"I love making fun of him."

"Why?" Sophia asked.

"Why do I love to make fun of him?"

"Yeah."

"Because he's great. And he needs someone like me to take him down. And he needs someone like you."

"For why? For why does he need me?" Riley asked.

"To build him up, to tell his Canadian Boy stories to, and make him feel like a hero. You like his stories and and he likes yours."

"Yeah."

Topanga's

Sophia had been sitting at Topanga's waiting on everyone except for Zay and Farkle when Charlie walked in.

"Hi, Sophia."

"Hi, Charlie."

"Where is she?"

"Chill out, you just got here she'll be here soon."

"So what's up with you?"

"Nothing much just waiting on my friends."

"I heard about you and Lucas."

"I wonder who told you that?"

"Zay."

"I know."

Riley soon walked in, "Hi, Riley."

"Hi, Charlie."

"Riley, I can't be your brother anymore." Thomas said walking in with Lucas behind him.

"Hey, Allen. Do you think you can pick a better time for this big announcement? Riley and I are gonna go on a date."

"You are?"

"No holding hands or talking. Best date ever. I know it's not, but it's what I got." Charlie said.

"Those are the rules? Who goes on a date and doesn't talk to each other?" Thomas said and sat down beside Maya.

"Oh, yeah. We do."

"Hi."

"Hello."

"Hey Riley, can we go? I like to be there for the previews of coming attractions. When I'm not there for the previews of coming attractions, I feel like I didn't see the whole movie."

"Hey Riley, what do you do when you sit next to Canadian Boy?" Maya asked.

"Maya, I can't give you advice like that."

"Sure you can. You're his sister, right?" Maya asked.

"Nope. Not anymore."

"Why?" Riley asked.

"Auggie says we can't."

"Hey, Allen." Charlie said.

"And you know what? I think he's right. You already have a great brother."

"Hey, Friar!"

"Then what will you be?" Riley asked.

"He'll be me, because it's me now." Charlie said.

"Yeah. Sorry. You have every right."

"I also want to be there early to get snacks 'cause if we're not talking or holding hands, I was gonna buy some popcorn and licorice."

"You mean popcorn and gummy worms." Thomas said.

"I'm not you!"

"Okay!"

"Anyway, Auggie loves you, Riley.
So, I'm gonna step back from being your brother." Thomas said.

"Say me now." Charlie said.

"Me now." Maya said.

"You have every right."

"I break the licorice into little pieces so every time I take a handful of popcorn, I get a surprise. I'm adorable. How are you not seeing this?"

"Because licorice is gross." Sophia said.

"You see? Thomas does anything for anybody. I mean, he sacrifices being Riley's brother so he doesn't hurt Auggie's feelings." Zay said.

"Well, same with Riley. She's stepping back from Thomas because she's doing exactly the same thing."

"Farkle, stop."

"But I thought she didn't like him like that anymore." Zay said.

"No, Riley's stepping back from Thomas because she doesn't-" Sophia started, but a was put over her mouth and was quickly pulled out of Topanga's.

"Okay, she ends up with Farkle and Sophia. How did we not see that coming?" Charlie said.

"Farkle, Sophia, you don't know what's going on. Stop thinking."

"We know Auggie's right. He's your only brother." Farkle said.

"We've seen the way you look at Auggie, and we've seen the way you look at Thomas. It's definitely not the same." Sophia said.

"I think I know my own feelings." She said.

"You're a liar." Farkle said.

"Farkle."

"You're lying to yourself." Sophia added.

"Thomas and I don't make a good couple."

"You were both just nervous because that's not who you are." Farkle said.

"Okay, okay."

"But what about Maya?"

"We're not really sure how Maya feels." Sophia said.

"You're not sure? How can you not be sure?" Riley asked.

"This isn't about her. I'm talking about how you feel." Farkle said.

Farkle told her about when she started developing feeling and stuff like that.

"Farkle, how do you even know about that? You weren't even there."

"Doesn't matter. What you're thinking is how you really feel." Farkle said.

"I don't care. Farkle, Maya is one of my best friends. She cares about him and he cares about her too."

"He might, but we know he likes you." Sophia said.

"You can't tell anybody."

"We will, unless you do." Farkle said.

"Why?"

Sophia added, "Because we are growing up."

"And I don't know how to handle these feelings we're feeling. But I do know that we don't lie to each other. We don't lie to each other, Riley." Farkle said.

"You're right. This is really hard and maybe I just need some time."

"We're always here for you."

"I love you."

"And I love you."

"Now go on your date." Farkle said.

"Ready?" Charlie asked.

"For the previews of coming attractions? Yeah."

"I'm sure we're all wondering what happens now." Farkle said.

"Are you gonna talk to Lucas?"

"Yeah, I will."

Bay Window

Maya and Sophia crawled through the window and saw Riley sitting there.

"How was your date?" Sophia asked.

"I don't know."

"How was your date?" Sophia asked Maya.

"I don't know."

"Did you talk to Lucas?" Riley asked.

"I did."

"What happened?" Maya asked.

Earlier

"You're finally talking to me." Lucas said.

The two of them sat outside Topanga's.

"Better late than never."

"I hate you." He said.

"I hate you more."

"And that's fine by me."

"I just want my fairytale moment and I don't think you understand how hard it is for a girl like me to have that and I thought you would understand more than anyone besides Farkle."

"Then let me help you."

"How, I know you try to fix everything but sometimes you can fix things."

"It's magic."

"Never believe it's not so."

"What are you saying?"

"I'm saying believe in magic and faith."

"Ask me."

"Ask you what?"

"You know what I'm talking about."

"Sophia will you be my girlfriend?"

"Yeah."

"You're serious?"

"Yeah."

"Promise."

"Promise."

"No you got to pinky promise."

"Pinky promise."

We sat there for a while and then he kissed me.

Present

"Are you happy?" Riley asked.

"Yeah."

"Do you have hope?" Maya asked.

"I don't know."

"Do we know anything?" Riley asked.

"Ring power." Maya said.

"Ring power."

"Ring power."

"Thunder."

"Lightning."

"Boom."

"A little scared." Maya said.

"Me too." Riley said

"Aren't we all?" Sophia questioned.
