girl meets i am farkle
"A) EVERY human being is a unique collection of atoms. B) Some of you in this room might be human beings. C) When you mess with atoms, or human beings, they blow up." Mr. Matthews said.
"Belgium, 1831!"
"Okay everyone, it's happening right now. Everyone under your desk. Farkle's gonna blow."
"I know everything except Belgium 1831, and once I know that I'll know everything, and then my name goes on the board with those three idiots."
Those "idiots" we actually geniuses Mozart, Einstein, Jobs.
Some idiots.
"Breathe, Farkle." Sophia said.
"Too late. I taste blue." He said and passed out.
"You know, with anybody else, that would've been strange." Riley said.
"Yeah, but with Farkle, we don't even lift him off the floor anymore. Oh, here's your book." Maya said.
Maya stood up and dropped a book on him.
Then the guidance counselor Miss. Oben came in.
"Sorry to interrupt, Mr. Matthews. I'm here to see Farkle Minkus."
"Farkle, Guidance Counselor."
"Well, it's about time." Farkle said.
He jumped up and walked to the door.
Before he could talk to her, Riley, Maya, Lucas, Thomas, and Sophia approach the counselor.
"Are you finally taking him away?" Riley asked Mr. Matthews.
"Because if he goes, we all go." Sophia said.
"We're here so it's not just the girls."
Sophia sighed, "There are no secrets in our group."
"Nothing can come between-" Maya started.
The bell rang and the group left.
Miss. Oben was telling Farkle what he had made on his IQ test.
"Ruling the world. Never seen that one."
"The rest of the class falls within more traditional range of careers. Although, we did get one bunny farmer..."
"Yay!" Riley cheered.
"And arm-pit sniffer number five in a deodorant factory."
Maya smiled, "I got a job!"
"And then more specialized schools with gifted programs like Einstein Academy might approach you." Mr. Matthews said.
"Now Farkle says-" Sophia said.
"I'd never leave my friends behind."
"Who's a good genius?" Riley asked.
"I am!"
"One more thing, Farkle. It's important not to react to your score in anyway that might make your friends feel..."
"Inferior? Of less value? Like dumb-dumbs."
"We're talking about my daughter."
"Whose fault is that?" Farkle asked.
Farkle left, leaving Mr. Matthews and Miss. Oben with their thoughts.
Topanga's
"Welcome to our Farkle Genius Party. I'm Stuart Minkus, the original genius, very proud to welcome my son to the club. I'm sure his mother, who's unexceptional, would like to say a few words representing her people." Mr. Minkus said.
"Yeah, I'm unexceptional. Who does what I say?" Mrs. Minkus asked.
She stood up as everyone said, "Everybody."
"I hold in my hand, the answer to the question everyone's been asking. Is Farkle a clone, a robot, or a real boy?" Mrs. Minkus questioned.
"Real boy. Real boy. Real boy. Real boy." Farkle muttered and crossed his fingers.
"This is the birth certificate of Farkle Minkus, real boy."
Most of us applaud him except Maya who was disappointed. She handed Thomas a five dollar bill.
"Thanks for having me, mom."
"Anytime, kiddo. You make me proud every day. Stuart and I want to thank Farkle's friends who care about him. You're all he ever talks about."
"We hope you'll keep encouraging him to be as unique as he's always been. The Minkuses have always been simple, incredibly rich people. Please enjoy our party, and don't forget your complimentary penguin." Mr. Minkus said.
"Hey, Minkus. Great party. Nice shirt. I don't care about any of that. You married Jennifer Basset? Did you know that?" Mr. Matthews asked.
"We fell in love. She told me."
"Maya, when I rule the world, I'll give you half because you're my lovely fake wife." Farkle said.
"Hey, we want some of that!" Riley argued.
"Yeah, Farkle, you love them equally. Marry all of them." Thomas said.
"Wouldn't that be the genius thing to do?" Lucas asked.
"See why I keep you around! Make it happen, Face."
Thomas got down on one knee in front of Riley.
"Here we go."
"Riley Matthews?"
"Yes."
"Would you..."
"Absolutely."
"..do me the honor..."
"Any time at all."
"...of becoming..."
"Whatever you want."
"..Mrs...."
"Do you not understand "yes"?"
"..Farkle Minkus?"
"You're gonna be there, right?"
"A yes is a yes. Here's your ring." Farkle said.
He took the ring off Maya's finger and put it on Riley's.
"Hey!"
"You get two penguins, and you get two cinnamon rolls."
"Okay."
"Maya, marry us quick while she's still distracted by the sparkles."
"Mm-hmm."
Farkle ran around the couch and bumped Thomas onto a couch behind him. He bent down on one knee.
"Okay."
"Blah, blah blah." Maya said.
"I do."
"Blah, blah blah."
"There it is." Mrs. Minkus said.
She grabs the ring from the distracted Riley's finger, and claims it back as she walks away.
"What do you want?" Riley asked.
"If anyone has any reason why these two shouldn't be joined..."
"I object, yes." Smackle said.
Oh, Smackle. Could she just swoon Farkle and Sophia off their feet.
"Smackle." Maya said.
"You made it to the wedding, Smackle!" Sophia said.
Sophia smiled and hugged Smackle, "Still having trouble with the hugging thing, aren't ya?"
"The average middle-schooler spends nine minutes a day engaged in hugs. Do you know what I can accomplish in nine minutes?"
"No."
"Ask NASA."
"Smackle, here to mock my recent membership into the genius club?" Farkle asked.
"On the contrary, Farkle. I welcome you with open arms." She said.
She tried to unclench her arms in order to offer him an inviting hug.
"My arms. They are open."
"What do you want me to do with that?"
"We are both geniuses now."
"Yup. That makes us even more alike that we were. And as we both know-"
"Like forces repel. Yes, science says we may never be together." She said dropping her arms.
"And science never makes a mistake."
"Really?" Riley asked.
She walked towards them.
"Have you seen the blob fish?" She asked and held up a picture of a blob fish
"Why science? Why?"
"I'm here to ask you to consider transferring to Einstein Academy."
"That's not happening." Lucas said.
"Stop hitting on me."
"Heh. Okay."
"What would be the benefits of my going to Einstein?" Farkle asked.
"To develop your magnificent brain so the world is not cheated of your full potential."
"Are you suggesting that my dumb-dumbs hold me back?"
Maya, Riley, and Sophia made stupid faces in an attempt to mimic the picture of the blob fish that Riley showed Farkle earlier:
"I am a blob fish." Riley said.
"Yeah, tell me more about Einstein Academy." Farkle said.
John Quincy Adams Middle School History with Matthews
"Farkle, what are you?" Mr. Matthews asked
"Genius. I'm on the board."
Mr. Matthews looked on the and the same names as yesterday where on the board and Farkle was added to it.
"Wrong. Riley, what are you?"
"Bunny farmer."
"Wrong."
"Then don't go into my room."
"All these things that you guys have been told you are this week? That's only a piece of what makes you an individual. This I.Q. test produces a number that puts you in a category. A label. Don't live under a label. It just gets in the way of who you are."
"But if you get called something enough, don't you start believing it?" Lucas asked.
You remember how Sophia felt like she was gonna disappear and all that jazz, yeah this was somehow related to this whole thing.
"Believe in what you contribute to others. We expect great things from you, Farkle."
"I'll try my best, sir."
"But, I also expect great things from everybody else. Remarkable people have I.Q.'s all across the board. Everyone has great gifts, and everyone in this class has the potential to impact our world. So just be yourself. It's the only label that matters."
Miss. Oben approached the open doorway of the class. She knocked on the door and walked in.
"Mr. Matthews? If it's all right with you, I need a moment with Farkle."
"Okay. Farkle?"
Farkle got up from his desk and left the class with Miss. Oben, although with less enthusiasm than yesterday. The rest of them kinda sensed his distress.
Matthews' Apartment
"So, they did more testing on me."
"How big a genius are you?" Riley asked.
"Riley, they're considering some behavioral traits in Farkle that warrant a more specific kind of testing." Mr. Matthews said.
"What? They just noticed Farkle's a little farkly?"
"I could have told them that." Maya said.
"They want to see if I have autism."
"You don't." Maya said.
"Let's go tell them you don't." Riley said.
"I might have a type of autism called Asperger's Syndrome."
"You don't."
"What is it?" Thomas asked.
"It's a disorder that affects a person's behavior." Sophia said.
"Farkle, when I said that you were a little farkly, what I meant was..." Riley said, but she trailed.
"Yeah, that you behave just like a perfectly normal Farkle." Lucas said.
"You do." Maya said.
"We'll get the results from today's interview, and we'll know." Stuart said.
"We know." Farkle said.
"We don't know." Maya said.
"Guys, I've passed every single test I've ever taken."
"These test you may pass, you may not." Sophia said.
"He made us come right over. He didn't want to go home, he didn't want to do anything except be with you." Mrs. Minkus told them.
"Of course. That's who he is." Topanga said.
"I see it in my classroom everyday."
"The most important thing to him was that you're a part of this." Mr. Minkus said.
"Because he's Farkle." Riley said.
Sophia smiled, "That's who you are, no matter what anybody says."
Bay Window
Farkle, Maya, Riley, Lucas, Thomas and Sophia were sitting and waiting for Lucas, who was looking on the internet for signs of autism, which was so stupid.
"Could you please give us one of your wonderful little Riley pick-me-ups?" Maya asked.
"Whatever happens, at least you're in better shape that Maya." Riley said.
"Okay, that wasn't what I was going for, but sure, let's turn on me." Maya said.
"You think you got stuff? Look at this! This is a bag of cats."
"Okay there, little helper." Sophia said.
"All right, this website lists symptoms of Asperger's. Uh, the first one they mention is social awkwardness." Lucas said.
"Check."
"You don't do anything awkward."
Farkle stood up, "Hah!" He sat back down.
"Well, that's just something you do and you're gonna stop doing that. He's gonna stop doing that." Maya said.
""Narrowed interests - Going on about a subject even if the people he's talking to don't have a shared interest.""
"Check."
"Farkle, we're interested in everything you're interested in." Riley said.
"Belgium, eighteen thirty-one!"
"We all want to learn that, and when it happens it we will learn about something we never knew." Sophia said.
"Stop doing that. He's gonna stop doing that." Maya said.
"Guys, whatever this is, I got it. And I need you to let that be okay."
"Some people with Asperger's are uncomfortable being touched or receiving affection. They may struggle to fully understand emotion or love." Lucas read.
"Check, check, checky-check, check."
"Farkle, what are you talking about? You love Riley, Sophia, and me since the day we met. You married us." Maya said.
Maya gripped his hand.
"It wasn't real. Oww." Farkle said and let go.
"But it's very sweet. And it's all about emotions." Riley said.
"You guys are my best friends. Please promise me one thing."
"Anything." Thomas said.
"Please don't ever let me not understand love." He said.
Topanga's
"Would you guys be upset if I transferred to Einstein Academy?"
"Yes." Maya said.
"Would you still be my friends?" He asked.
"Boy, for someone who's gonna rule the world, you sure ask some dum-dum questions." Sophia said.
Smackle walked in, placing an Einstein Academy jacket on a table near the door.
"Farkle. Sophia. People who aren't Farkle or Sophia.
Sophia known Smakle for a long time now, one of the reason Sophia liked her so much is because Smackle was different.
"Hey, Smackle." Lucas said.
"Stop smothering me." She said.
"Okay."
Sophia instantly got up and hugged her which caught her off-guard, as she bunches her arms together.
"As long as I've known you I would think you would hug back by now." Sophia said.
"Friends. Hugging. I suppose this is all very important to people like you." She said.
"You love them, Smackle, you just don't know it yet." Sophia said.
"Noted. Farkle, I'm here to see how you enjoyed your tour of Einstein Academy." She said.
Sophia let go of her.
"You went?" Thomas asked.
"He spent the day with us. He fit. And so will this."
Smackle grabbed an Einstein Academy jacket from a nearby table and puts it on for him.
"How does it look?"
"I'm swooning. Perhaps we could indulge in our established ritual of sharing a smoothie?" She asked.
"Thanks, but I'm not really thirsty right now."
"Nor am I really interested in the consumption of a frozen treat." She said and takes her glasses of and winks at him or at least she tried to.
"What are you doing? What is she doing? Who do we call?" Maya asked.
"I believe she's winking at me."
"How do you like it?" She asked him and whipped her hair around and tried to wink again, resting her chin on her fist, but ends up squinting again.
"Yeah, let's see it with one eye." Farkle said.
She backed away, and tried winking properly again, failing at that too.
"Two, eyes, two eyes." They all told her.
"Please, don't." Maya said.
"Why don't I get us a table outside?" Smackle asked.
She got ready to leave, but not before she looked back and made an awkward pose.
Sophia slipped out the door and sat down with Smackle as the others talk about how much Smackle loves Farkle.
"Smackle, I need a favor." Sophia said.
"What would that be?"
"When Farkle comes out here leave your hand flat on the table."
"Why?"
"He's gonna make it feel like you're having a electrical charge going through you."
"Why?"
"Cause it's fun."
"How do you know?"
Sophia didn't know, she knew Smackle liked Farkle and that's all that mattered to her.
She knew she was hurting her own feeling by telling Smackle to move on with Farkle.
"I've felt it before."
"With Farkle?"
"No, with someone else."
"Who?"
Before she could answer Farkle came out and stood behind her.
"I'll leave it to you Smackle."
"What did you two talk about?" Maya asked.
"Nothing important."
Lucas and Sophia stood at the door looking at Smackle and Farkle.
"You are holding my hand." She said.
"Is that okay?" Farkle asked.
"It's the hunk move."
Smackle gently grabs Farkle's hand.
"Thank you, Isadora."
"For what?"
"For liking me for whatever I am."
Riley raised her hand up to the little window and so does Maya and Thomas and they smile.
"You feel the electrical charge yet?" Sophia mouth to her.
"Yeah." She mouths back.
John Qunicy Adams Middle School Hallway
The bell rings as Smackle turns the corner, "Farkle."
"Hello, Smackle."
"You observed me in my natural habitat, so I asked Mr. Matthews if I could observe you in Mediocreville."
"I hope that's not offensive."
"Of course, it is." Riley said.
"I have no remorse." She said.
"Glad you could join us, Smackle." Thomas said.
"Thomas, you have to stop. It's never gonna happen." She said.
"Lucas, take a hint."
"Wow."
They all walked in but Farkle got stop by Miss. Oben.
Matthews' class
Farkle finally walked into class.
"Farkle time?"
"Absolutely."
Farkle then flips the sign on Matthews desk from "Mr. Matthews" to "Farkle."
"Asperger's syndrome is an autism spectrum disorder. A.S.D. This is a pretty complicated label, so I wanna explain it to you. People with A.S.D. can fall anywhere on a spectrum of different behaviors. They talked to me for a long time and you know what?" Farkle asked, "I don't have Asperger's. But they also said they don't know what to make of me. And I like that. So, what am I? I'm Farkle! Thank you."
They were all grateful that Farkle doesn't have Asperger's except for Smackle who looks pretty sad.
"We're all a unique collection of atoms, and there's only one of each of us. The only label you should wear is your name. Let your actions define you. Because there's another spectrum; How you live your life, what you do with whatever you're given. How you treat the other people around you. These are your actions. This is your name. That's who you are." Mr. Matthews said.
"Thanks for the way you treat me. And thanks for studying all of it." Farkle said.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa. You guys studied?"
"Hey, our friend was worried about something." Thomas said.
"So, we learned about it. If I knew it was studying, I wouldn't have done it." Maya said.
Smackle slowly raises her hand.
"Miss. Smackle?" Mr. Matthews said.
"I believed that Farkle would be better off attending Einstein Academy. Observing him in your inferior class was to be my proof." She said.
"Don't hold back, Smack. Just say what's on your mind." Maya said.
"My findings are contradictory to my hypothesis."
"Also, please talk down to us." Riley said.
"This class teaches lessons you cannot find in a textbook." She said standing up, "There are friendships here that can't be created in a laboratory. Farkle, you are where you belong. I, on the other hand, should leave.
She starts to do just that. Most of the class is stunned and worried, especially Farkle."
Smackle pauses at the door and gives him one last sad glance before she leaves.
Bay Window
Maya, Smackle, Riley, and Sophia were talking about Smackle's inability to win Farkle's heart.
"I'm okay. I will go though life alone." She said.
"Isadora, you haven't lost Farkle." Maya reassured.
"He doesn't want me now."
"Why?" Riley asked.
"Because he doesn't have Asperger's, like you?" Sophia asked.
"How did you know?"
"We studied and you would never hug me back." Sophia said.
"We're studiers. They made me." Maya said.
"I was diagnosed when I was five years old. I struggle with it." She said.
"Isadora, I don't think there's anybody we respect more than you." Riley said.
"I'm not like everybody else." She said.
"But who wants that?" May asked.
"The strangest thing is that I feel so comfortable with Farkle. But he's not quite like me anymore."
"But I thought that's what you guys always wanted. You were like forces and like forces repel." Sophia said.
"Yeah, Smackle. Science dictates that you guys can be together now." Maya said.
"You think he knows that?" She asked.
"Ladies!" We hear Farkle say from outside the window
"Farkle, my arch nemesis."
"Smackle, my arch nemesis. Riley, Maya, and Sophia, my wives who I will adore forever. I want a divorce. Make it a triple." He said.
Riley walked towards her bed, pretending to be heartbroken, "This is the longest relationship I've ever had."
"You will love again, Riley." Farkle said.
Riley tried to gesture to Maya and Sophia to give the two privacy.
"Oh, I'm gonna leave you twos alone now." Maya said.
Maya dragged Sophia to the bed and sat beside Riley.
"Isadora, I'm a single man now."
"Farkle, before we continue, there's something I need to tell you, I have-"
"I know you do. I also know you showed me understanding and compassion."
"Of course."
"Please, let me do the same. May I hug you?
"Yes." She said, even though she hesitated.
Sophia could tell that Smackle was a bit uncomfortable with the hug she then bunches her arms together.
"I don't like this at all."
"I know."
"Don't stop."
"Okay."
She slowly relaxed her arms.
Topanga's
"These are my friends, Isadora. They like me for who I am. They make me feel like I could rule the world." Farkle explained.
"Yeah, so forget trying to steal Farkle over to Einstein." Riley said.
"You come to John Quincy Adams." Maya said.
"What would be the benefits?" She asked.
"You would have good friends here." Farkle told her.
"But, I'm not good at that." She said.
Sophia smiled, "Yeah, but we are. Maybe if you were in a place where you had some good friends. You wouldn't struggle as much."
"People change people." Farkle said.
"The secret of life." Riley said.
Just then Lucas and Thomas walked in and Thomas put his Junior Varsity jacket around Smackle, which she misinterprets as an act of affection.
"You two just won't give up, will you?" She asked.
"Nope. Looks good on you, though, Smackle." Lucas said.
"Okay. I have a question for everybody, and I want you guys to answer as honestly as you can." Riley said, "Who here is normal?"
Nobody raised their hand.
"And who here wants to be?"
Smackle raised her hand, then looked at everybody around her nervously and puts it back down.
"Good." Riley said.
Farkle grabbed Smackle's hand affectionately, and she smiles.
Sophia walked out the door with Lucas while everyone else stayed behind.
"Come come you knew so much about Asperger's?" He asked.
"We studied it remember."
"I'm talking about before."
"My grandfather on my dad side has it. I studied it before, I know a lot about autism."
"How come you know Smackle?"
"Because of Farkle."
"You said you've know her for a while know?"
"I met her when I met Riley. Smackle is a person you don't want to hurt because sometimes will come and hurt them." Sophia said, "Why do you have your junior varsity jacket?"
"I was gonna give it to Smackle but Thomas decide to give his to her."
The two of them finally made it to her house.
"Goodnight Friar."
"Wait."
"Yes?"
"You've never answered my question."
"What question?"
"Will you go out with me?"
"Give me a week okay?"
"You said two weeks."
"I know what I said, just give me some time you'll have your answer in no time."
Before he could say anything, she shut the door in his face.
"What a wonderful night."
