"𝗬𝗢𝗨 𝗞𝗡𝗢𝗪 𝗜 𝗡𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗥 𝗘𝗡𝗝𝗢𝗬𝗘𝗗 𝗜𝗧." Five sighs as Luther pulls over the car. We arrived at the place where we were supposed to meet the two lunatics, but apparently, they weren't here yet. "What?" Luther asks, looking concerned with Five's uneasy state.
"The killing. I mean, I was good at work. I took pride in it. But it never gave me pleasure." He answers back apathetically. "I think it was all those years alone. Solitude can do funny things to the mind."
"Yeah, well, you were gone for such a long time. I only spent four years on the moon, but that was more than enough."
"I was conscious in my own mind when I was comatose, I didn't just fall asleep. I felt every day with no one, feeling nothing, and having no one. It was scary. I'm glad you didn't lose your mind, Five." I chuckled, trying to light up the moment.
"It's the being alone that breaks you... You think they'' buy it?"
"Well, what I do know is that they're desperate. It's like a cop losing his gun. If the Commission finds out, they'll be in deep shit. Oh, not to mention the fact that they'll be stuck here until they get it back."
"I think you should hold on to it, Luther. In case they make a move, you'll be ready."
"That's a good idea. But just be careful about it, Luther. I mean, I've... I've lived a long life, but... you're still a young man. You got your whole life ahead of you. Don't waste it."
"And (Y/N)..."
"Yes?"
"Take care of yourself for me. Will ya'?" Five speaks in a sincere manner, it's almost as if he was saying his farewell for both of us. And I didn't want that to happen again.
I insert myself between the passenger and driver's seat with my mouth gaped open as my right hand immediately seized his necktie, forcing him to look in my direction. "This is NOT goodbye. Do you hear me? NOT. I refuse it to be, Number Five. You go talk to those sons of bitches and get back your ass back in this car, you hear me?" My (E/C) narrowed down with boiling disapprovement of whatever the hell he was up to.
I cast a soft look onto my face as my whole body relaxed, letting go of his tie while my previous hand snakes its way to his perfectly tensile cheeks, caressing them tenderly. "You're not a killer and no longer a part of the commission. You're not on your own anymore, you have us."
Five looks down, reconsidering the words he chose to give out to us. Luther takes a hold of his shoulder, giving a sweet, gentle, short smile.
Our sibling moment was disturbed by the new car entering the road we saw on the side mirror. "And here we go."
We all got out as we waited for the car to pass as by the other side. It positioned itself from the other side of the road just a decameter away from us.
Five suddenly face me "If this all goes sideways, do me a favor and tell Delores I'm sorry."
"What are you talking about? I'm coming with you."
"Now, Luther." Five suddenly beckons the giant man behind me.
"I'm sorry, (Y/N)." Luther granted Five's wishes sounding uncertain.
"H-Hey w-wait!—" I exclaimed as soon as before Luther grappled my neck with his left elbow, refraining me from doing any more movements. "Five, you asshole! T-This wasn't p-part of the plan!" I manage to croak out as I struggle within my gigantic brother's force wrapped around me. "Get back here I'm gonna kill you myself!" I claimed as I spare no effort regaining my freedom using just my thin hands.
Five walked towards our enemies with ease, hands in pockets with the stiff poise, always pretending to be unafraid.
"Sorry, bud' but Five wanted you to be safe just in case things didn't go as planned, he didn't want you to be involved," Luther reveals not showing any signs of endeavor despite me using all my might to get out of his handle. "Jesus, Luther, isn't that my job to keep you guys safe? I'm literally known as 'The Shield' of this goddamn family." I appealed with mock astonishment present in my voice. "Ugh, fine." I gave up, letting my arm lifelessly sway around my torso.
From afar I could see them, to what I assumed, Cha-Cha dialing someone on the street phone. Five finally walks back to our area unbothered, which I guessed was a success. "Should I let her go?" Luther asked while I shot daggers in Five's direction. "No."
I groaned at his reply. "Is this really necessary?"
"If you can't stop being such a pig head." He explains nonchalantly, giving one of those (adorable) smiles owning another privilege of letting this conflict passed once again. He always seems to win.
The wind continued to whistle as we waited. Our tranquil interaction was suddenly disturbed by the chimes of bells of the delightful sweet tone of a well-known orchestral piece: the Ride Of The Valkyries.
All of us turned to see that it was a random ice cream truck strangely passing our way. "Is that her?" Luther asked, referring to Five's former boss. "What a grand entrance that is then," I muttered. We continued to examine the unusual occurrence, only to find out that the one driving the vehicle was non-other.
"Klaus? Since when can he drive?" Klaus waves at us with a grin plastered on his face like some kind of beauty queen in a pageant. Luther's grasps loosen out of shock. I got out but still continuing to gaze upon the bizarre happening.
"What the hell is he doing here?" Five mumbled. All of us were confused with the arrival of two of our siblings.
"It's a setup!" The partnered maniacs from the distance began to shoot with their guns when the vehicle continued to go onwards towards their way at a constant speed. Before I could even react, Luther already made himself our human shield and shoves us to his back aggressively.
And then suddenly, everything stopped. Literally.
The truck wasn't moving, Luther was stuck in a protective position, and Hazel and Cha-Cha are sustained before they could hit the ground from the impact the truck had done. "Are you doing this?" Five asked as he peeked from behind Luther's waist before ducking himself down from our brother's arm to move forward. "No." I tilted my head in amusement at what had just happened as I followed him.
I looked at Luther's expression to see he was in some kind of panicking face mode. It looked funny. I tiptoed to reach for his nose, squeezing it along the way. "This is fun."
Five scoffs and walks, stopping halfway through the distance.
"Neat trick, isn't it?" Suddenly a woman's voice was heard nearby Five. The female had puffy ash blonde hair and white skin, shades were covering her eyes. Her appearance was elderly yet youthful at the same time. She was wearing an elegant black tweed dress that defined her thin frame and then matching it with a stylish fascinator hat.
I jogged towards Five as I eyed closely the stranger who was carrying a briefcase. She removes the accessory off her face before sparking up a smile. "Hello, Five. You look good, all things considered." She greeted. The woman in high heels turns her gaze to me. "And you must be Eight. I'm sure we haven't met before. I'm the Handler. Five used to work for me."
"(Y/N)," I answered back sternly, trying to act hostile, Five told me that this lady may seem friendly but is discreetly pernicious.
"It's good to see you again." Five imparted taking a step forward to place me behind him, clearly keeping his guard up. Sometimes this man forgets what I'm capable of it's annoying. I can deal with myself.
"Feels like we met just yesterday. Course, you were a little bit older then. Congratulations on the age regression, by the way. Very clever. Threw us all off the scent." The Handler emphasized as Five scoffs. "Ah, well, I wish I could take credit. I just miscalculated the time dilation projections, and... Well, you know. Here I am."
"You realize your efforts are futile. So why don't you tell me what you really want?"
"I want you to put a stop to it."
"You realize what you're asking for is next to impossible, even for me. What's meant to be is meant to be. That's our raison d'être"
"Yeah? Well, how about survival as a raison?" Five mocks as he pulls out a pistol from his pocket and pointed it directly at her. "I'll just be replaced. I'm but a... small cog in a machine. This fantasy you've been nurturing about summoning up your family to stop the apocalypse... is just that, fantasy. I must say, though, we're all quite impressed with your initiative, your... stick-to-itiveness, really quite... quite something. Which is why we want to offer you and your sidekick a new position back at the Commission. In management."
'Did she just call me a sidekick?'
"Sorry, what's that now?"
"Come back to work for us again. You know it's where you belong."
"Well, it didn't work out too well the last time."
"But you wouldn't be in the correction division any longer. I'm talking about... the home office. You'd have the best health and pension, and an end to this ceaseless travel. You're a distinguished professional in... schoolboy shorts."
"And you Eight, we praised you and your ability to be able to use force-field. We believe that your combat skills and shielding powers would make you unstoppable in the field with your schoolgirl skirt."
"I said, leave her out of this."
"We have the technology to reverse the process. I mean, you... you children can't be happy like this." The Handler inched her heel closer to us as she placed her arms on our shoulder, trying to manipulate our decisions.
"I'm not looking for happy."
"We're all looking for happy. We can make that happen. We can make you... yourself again."
Tell me Five's not buying to her bullshits.
Five pauses and remained silent for the time being left. He couldn't decide.
"What about (Y/N)? I refuse to take her with me back in the commission." Five glowered as I shot him with a surprised look. So this was really is his plan, it was to leave and go back to that cruel place and go back to killing people. "I'm afraid, I can't do that. The two of you have been kept on the lookout and we want to recruit your lovely sister... We figured that your strategic ways of dealing with 'things' will bring the Commission to triumph."
Five was taken aback, not knowing if it was the right thing to agree to have me alongside him. If this is the ensuring of saving the world and having Five by my side; Then, yes.
"Five. It's okay. I can handle it." I reached out my hand to his, tightly clasping into it. Five gave a brief look to our now attached hands before making eye contact with me and gulping as I let out a reassuring short smile; My way of telling me that everything will be okay.
"And what about my family?" Five lowered his gun. He didn't let go. Instead, he squeezes my hand securely. He does that kind of activity when he's genuinely scared or unsure about what he was about to do.
"What about them?"
"I want them to survive."
The woman glances at each present sibling in the area. "All of them?"
"Yes, all of them."
"Well... I'll see what I can do."
"Do we have a deal?" The Handler gives out her arm for five to shake. "One thing." Five releases his hand on mine and approaches the floating figure of Hazel and Cha-Cha to remove the left out bullets and throws them. He then comes back also adjusting the hovered bullet that is about to hit Luther.
Five takes his spot beside me once again, instinctively crawling his hands towards mine for him to hold. He gives me another worried expression cast along his face. I nodded to him, indicating that everything will be fine.
And then we were just kids again, scared of what the world will bring upon our youthful hearts.
He sighs and finally shook the hand of the devil.
