Michael and I talked all night about everything. It's like he tried to fit the four months he missed into that one night. I loved every moment of it. I really needed him, and he needed me that's why he called. I smile at the memory. I can't wait to see him at the award show. I really missed him. I wish my brother were here to go with me like he did when we went to the Grammys. I grab the necklace he gave me right before he moved to Cali and put it on, then left for the show.
I hopped out the limo to bright lights and cameras flashing, last time I did this I was 14..now I'm 17 and the only difference is people are screaming my name and I had no hand to hold. I walk inside the building doors and instantly lock eyes with Michael. He always seems to be around. My heart dropped and those butterflies came fluttering in my stomach. He was so beautiful, his hair perfectly curled, his eyes so big and brown and he's dressed so sharp. Why does he do this to me? I take a deep breath. "Michael!" I yell smiling. He turns and almost runs to me "Jay!" He yells back grinning. I run towards him and he grabs me, hugging me so hard. "I missed you so much" I whisper I really needed this moment. "Me too Jay!" He looks at me concerned "how are you feeling? Are you ok?" I shrug. "As good as I'll get, Mike. I'll be fine" he grabs my hand.

As the show went on, I kept thinking about my brother, and how he would love to be here. "Where is he?" I whisper to myself. Michael took a quick glance at me and squeezed my hand. I guess he knew what I was thinking about. "Jayla!" I hear my name call out. I quickly snap out of my thoughts and walked up to the stage, I had just won the 1989 Best Urban R&B Single Award. I get to the microphone and watch as people clapped and screamed for me and I looked at Michael smiling at me giving me a thumbs up. I couldn't bring myself to words. I simply looked at my award and said "This is dedicated to my brother, Keenan Pearson. Wherever you are... Just know I love you" and I left in silence.
