Chapter 9: Mission Failed; Tomura's Anger!

I have known Tomura for three years. In those years I've seen many sides of him. Most of which aren't pretty. Because no matter how much I care about him, no matter how loyal I am to him, Tomura is insane.

His mind is as warped as is his moral compass. I have always emphasized with him and his ideals about our society. Because I too hate it.

Like I always say; birds of a feather flock together. But whenever Tomura goes back to scratching at his neck, his face, that's like an omen.

Blood is about to get spilt. In a violent rage.

A rage that more often than not puts others in the crossfire.

He began to scratch more intensely. "Hey, hey, what's going on? He's not any weaker at all. Did that guy lie to me?!"

Tomura . . . "What's wrong?" Ah! All Might's sights are set on him. "You're not coming? You said you'd 'clear' this or something, right? Come and get me if you can." His bright blue eyes narrowed dangerously on Tomura who backed away, frightened by his threat.

Even Banri faltered back.

Ayumi was the only one who didn't. She merely thrust her arm out to block Tomura from their enemy.

Her instincts, much like mine, telling her to protect him from the threat.

"As expected. It looks like there is no need for us to fight." Todoroki stated.

I just pursed my lips, eyeing the scene closely. You might be wrong, Todoroki. I may have to fight. And not in your favor.

"Yoshiko, Midoriya! We should get out of here now! It'll be worse if we end up getting taken hostage instead!" Kirishima called.

No. No! Think Kanon! What can you do?! I stared at the scene in front of me.

Wait a minute. Something's strange. All Might would have taken out the rest of them, yet he's only staring them down. What's with that?

He should attack them before they can think of a plan. But he's just standing there. Could it be? I squinted, taking a closer look at the Hero.

He's . . . trembling. So Nomu wasn't a total failure like I thought. He's bluffing!

I discreetly looked over to my comrades, seeing if they had seen it. And I think Kurogiri did.

Good. They still have a chance. What about Tomura? Ah, he's scratching at his neck with both hands now.

Oh no. He's losing it!

"If only I had Nomu. That guy would've been able to go up against him without thinking about anything!"

Tomura!!

"Shigaraki Tomura! Please calm yourself."

Kurogiri went closer to our leader. "Looking carefully, I see that he was definitely weakened from the damage of Nomu's attacks. Besides, the children appear to be frozen in fear. We still have underlings who can be used. Ayumi and Ishikawa haven't even fought yet either. They are both at full power. There are likely only a few minutes left before reinforcements come. If the four of us work together, we still have a chance of killing him."

Kurogiri's words seemed to have calmed Tomura, making him relax and stop scratching his neck.

"Yeah . . . yeah, yeah. That's right. That's right. We have no choice but to do it. I mean we have the last boss right in front of our eyes."

The thugs from the plaza began to stand up, having recovered enough from their fight with Aizawa-Sensei.

Aizawa-Sensei . . . I had only seen him for a split second, but it is imprinted in my mind. He was so broken. He looked dead.

That made me feel almost . . . guilty. But he is just a casualty. Everyone here is a casualty needed for our goals to succeed.

I vaguely heard the boys talking, but I kept my eyes on the only threats.

For both sides.

Tomura ran at All Might, ready to kill him. "This is revenge for Nomu!" He shouted. At his shout, the other three sprung into action, heading for the Hero as well.

That's it. Go!

A flash of green and sudden gust of wind was the only indication that Midoriya had taken off. Before I could fully register that however he was already by them, his fist pulled back.

Kurogiri opened two portals. One where Tomura's hand went through it and reached for Midoriya's face, and the other Ayumi had jumped through and appeared to his side, a dagger in her hand and directed at Midoriya.

Tomura began to laugh maniacally, enjoying his fate. It seems you really will be the one to die.

I knew some would die, but it being cute little innocent you is just a harder impact. May your death be the stepping stone for others to experience the horror of our world.

Goodbye, Midoriya Izuku.

A gunshot rang out and blood spilled. But not Midoriya's.

My eyes widened as more shots went off and Ayumi dropped to the ground, holding her bleeding hand. Tomura retched his hand back, cradling his injury as well.

Re-Reinforcements! My head snapped towards the entrance where a line of Heroes, our school faculty, stood.

"Sorry everyone! Sorry we're late! I gathered all who were immediately available." The principal's voice even reached towards us at the plaza.

Iida stood straighter, head up. "I, Iida Tenya, class 1-A representative, have now returned!"

Tch. I hid my emotions, being careful to not allow them onto my face.

Damn it. We're too late. This mission is a bust.

The thugs began to rush towards them to fight. But they're nothing compared to the reign of Heroes that descended upon them.

Ah-ah. It's game over.

"We should head home for now." Banri said, sticking close to Kurogiri. "Yes, we'll try again later Shigaraki Tomura."

Tomura nodded, turning towards them when more shots fired and went right through his limbs.

Tomura! "Shigaraki!" Ayumi and Banri went to his aid as Kurogiri wrapped around them and transported them back to the base.

Tomura, Tomura's injured! I struggled to mask my worry but managed to do so.

A big, relieved smile stretched onto my face. I turned to the three boys. "They did it!" I beamed, eyes sparkling with excitement.

My attitude seemed to relax them a bit and Kirishima even cracked a smile. "Ah! Midoriya! Midoriya!" I turned, running his way. Even Kirishima took off after me, realizing that he may be hurt.

Afterall, he seems to break his body whenever he uses his quirk.

"Are you okay?!" Kirishima shouted, just a bit behind me.

I hope he's okay. Poor little guy must be crying! And his injuries, he needs to get those checked on.

Midoriya looked a bit panicked. "Y-Yoshiko, Kirishima, wai-" He was cut off when a giant cement wall cut us off.

I yelped, skidding to a stop, nearly running face first into it.

My eye twitched. "I almost died."

Who-?

Cementos stood from the other end of the wall, turning his gaze towards us. "We want to make sure all the students are safe so please gather in front of the gate. We will deal with the injured here."

I frowned a bit. But Midoriya is badly wounded. "That makes sense. Roger that! Come on Yoshiko!" Kirishima urged.

I cast another glance at the wall and cupped my hands around my mouth. "Midoriya, I'll see you in a bit! Just know if your legs are broken, the grocery store by my house is closed and there are a lot of shopping carts! I'll bring one to school so you'll be mobile!" I declared cheerfully, giving the wall thumbs up.

Kirishima sweat dropped but we both ran towards Bakugo and Todoroki.

I immediately looped my arms through theirs and grinned. "Onward to the entrance!" I cheered.

The vein in Bakugo's temple throbbed and he tried to escape my hold.

Oh poor, stupid, Bakugo.

We both know once I'm latched I'm never coming off. That's why he's always so pissed at me.

Instead of dragging him there just to push his buttons, I let go and took off. An ever present cheerful grin on my face. But my mind was whirling with worry for Tomura.

He wasn't shot anywhere fatal. But he will be incapacitated for a while.

I failed him. I didn't protect him. I promised I'd be his weapon, yeah. But I'm also supposed to be the shield. That's my role.

But I couldn't do it, not with being undercover. Yet failing just made me feel . . . awful.

This whole undercover thing is just not for me. But I'm the best choice. I am in fact one of the best actresses.

"Hey guys! Did you see that?! Wasn't All Might so cool?!" I yammered excitedly as soon as I made it to the others. "Kanon!" Mina ran over to me, her eyes a darker pink than normal. Swollen too.

She must have been scared, crying that much. I smiled warmly and patted her head. "There, there. Don't worry. Everything's fine. The Heroes are here and they took care of those nasty Villains." I beamed.

But my insides churned at the fact that I insulted my friends. "Mm!" She gave a sharp nod before smiling as well.

"All students, please come outside! We will tend to your injuries and will be taking statements."

I raised my hand, one still placed on Mina's shoulder. "Yes, yes! C'mon everyone!" I urged my friends outside, cheering them up with my personality. My mind, however, is still on Tomura and the others.

I wonder what's happening at the base right now.

~

As soon as I entered the bar, a bottle of liquor flew at my head. Yelping, I ducked, making it shatter on the door behind me.

"What took you so long?!" Tomura shouted. His arms are bandaged  tightly, but that didn't stop him as he went to scratch his neck.

"Sorry, I had to give a statement to the police and wait for the principal to send us home. More importantly, are you alright? You should be resting!" I chastised, going to his side.

I slung his arm over my shoulder. Of course he shoved me away, but that just resulted in him falling into the counter.

"Jeez. You need rest!" Banri snorted from his spot in the booth not far.

"We tried that already. He's not exactly cooperative." He said with an eye roll.

"Those damn Heroes! All Might! Always getting in the way. Trash of society! Kanon!" Tomura roared, making me jump.

"Y-Yeah?" He wobbled over to me before placing his bandaged hands on my shoulder, careful not all of his fingers touched me. He bent down so he stared into my eyes with his own. "Get me everything on that damn school."

I blinked before furrowing my brows. "I mean, sure, but we have all of our ears in place. Why do-" I was interrupted by Tomura tightening his grip. "I need more! More information! More openings! More weaknesses! I'm gonna crush All Might and that entire school. Those kids were strong. Why didn't you warn us?! Everything went to ruin! We need to do better."

He's really angry. This failure is really getting to him. His eyes are more wild than normal. His sanity worsening.

This isn't good. "Now, now Tomura."

Huh. The TV is turned on. The screen read Sound Only, which meant it was Sensei. "We talked about this. We weren't prepared enough. We had underestimated them."

"Master."

"Sensei . . . ."

"There was no major harm since we did it under that cheap 'League of Villains' name. It's unfortunate, but all we need to do is try again. Make as many mistakes as you need Tomura. That's what I'm here for."

Tomura released my shoulders but remained in front of me. "Tell Master about that child."

I frowned in confusion."What child?" I asked. His eyes narrowed but not necessarily at me. "The one who was as fast as All Might."

Fast? Was there-ah.

Tomura's hands clenched tightly. "If it wasn't for him, we might have been able to kill All Might. I thought I told you to be on the lookout for anyone with as much power as him."

I pursed my lips briefly, thinking of the boy in question.

"I'm sorry Tomura. I really didn't see him as a threat. Midoriya Izuku does have insane power, but he can only use it once before his bones are shattered. I didn't see him as a threat."

Tomura almost growled at the mention of the boy. "You say the boy can't control his power?" Sensei asked.

I shook my head. "No. He's rather timid and relatively easy to handle." At least . . . I think so.

He's scared of his own shadow, can't talk with girls, and cries at the drop of a hat.

That's why he's so adorable.

"Interesting. Keep an eye on that boy Kanon. For now, you will continue to stay in that school. No matter what Tomura or I plan, you must always pretend to be on their side. We may have ears inside, but you will be the one to infiltrate them at the heart. Until Tomura orders otherwise, you are just another Hero in training. Is that understood?"

Eh? I have to stay there? Well it's not as boring as I thought it would be, but I thought for sure it wouldn't last long.

I thought that I would be able to return to Tomura's side.

"But . . ." I looked back at Tomura, the urge to say no strong. "Kanon. You are my Sword and my Shield. And I need you. I need you to stay at that school like nothing is wrong." He said.

As much as I just want to remain at his side, that isn't what he needs exactly.

"If it's what you want, so be it." If Tomura wants something, it's my duty to ensure he gets it.

I owe him everything.

I grinned widely. "Those kids and teachers at U.A. won't know what hit them by the time I'm through with them." I giggled.

They already trust me. And the longer I stay the more pain we can inflict on them. "Good. Gather the elite. Take as long as you need." With that sad the TV turned off.

"I'll start by spreading the news through my connections. Shouldn't be too hard to find people, but whether they are good or not is debatable." Banri stood, grabbing his bat.

Ayumi appeared out of seemingly nowhere. "I'll visit a few of my contacts. Gather up some materials."

I sighed loudly before pouting. "I guess I'll go back to my apartment and . . . study. Man! You two have good jobs! No fair~!" I whined pathetically.

Banri grinned cheekily before patting my head. "Be a good girl and study hard." I glared at him and swung.

He blocked my punch with his bat, which is good because I charged up that hit. He smirked. "Testy."

"I'll smash your face in next time." I threatened.

He wagged his finger at me. "Uh-uh. That's not very Hero-like young lady." My shoulders slumped before a groan slipped passed my lips. "Damn it. This is so la~me~!"

Tomura turned and headed to the back of the bar, probably heading to the living quarters of the place.

"Stop complaining. The school will be on break for a while because of the incident. You'll have some time to have some fun. Some. I expect you to be readying yourself. Your role is vital. Don't screw it up."

I huffed at that. "Your confidence in me is flattering, really." I grumbled.

He didn't say anything as he escaped into the back. Hm. He normally would have scolded me.

He's still angry.

Angry and injured.

"Hey Kurogiri. How are his injuries?" I asked my fog friend as Banri and Ayumi left.

Kurogiri sighed as he cleaned some glass. "They're not serious, but he needs to rest so they'll heal nicely."

I snorted. Getting Tomura to rest? Yeah right. I don't think I've ever seen him sleep. Knocked out? Yeah. But he hardly ever sleeps, let alone rest.

A frown made its way back onto my face. He needs to rest. He needs to heal.

I don't like to see him injured.

"Do not worry, Yoshiko Kanon. I will make sure he heals." I smiled at my friend.

Kurogiri  is the nurturer in our little ragtag group. He's also the most reliable. Him and Ayumi both. That brings me some comfort. At least Tomura will be in good hands while I'm gone.

"Well I need to go home and face my biggest demon yet. I may not survive. This could be it, Kurogiri. It'll tear me into pieces and drag me through the streets. Well, it's been an honor fighting with you." I began to tear up a bit.

He raised, what I imagine, would be an eyebrow. "What demon are you facing?"

I looked up at him, face going pale and eyes wide with fear. "This demon is the one thing that could actually kill me. I'm strong, brave, and known to never give up, but even I am no match for this evil doer. This vile creature that haunts me in my dreams."

He leaned in waiting to hear more. He urged me with his arm to continue. I swallowed the lump in my throat and looked back into his eyes with my frightful ones.

"My math book."
