Chapter 9

Dedicated to @xxbrokendreams for giving me the motivation to update. And thank you for the beautiful covers!!

Wade's POV:

My eyes fly open and I lie in my bed, staring at the ceiling, trying to figure out what had woken me up because something definitely did. I wait for a few minutes hoping that I would be able to solve the dilemma from my comfortable bed and preferably go back to sleep. When I don't hear anything else, I decide to do just that but just as  I am about to close my eyes, I hear the sounds of shuffling from outside.

Okay. Now I am sure there's someone outside.

I silently make my way towards the door and quietly open it enough to give me a view of the living room. I survey the room quickly trying to catch any motion in the dimly lit room but when I am pretty sure that there is no one outside, I open the door and make my way outside. My eyes sweep the room once again trying to decipher the cause of the noise and that's when I realize that the kitchen light is on.

Feeling like I am in a horror movie and someone is going to come out with a knife or a gun any minute now, I slowly make my way towards the kitchen. When I am just a few steps away from the kitchen, I hear a soft gasp and recognizing it as Jackson's voice, I immediately speed up and enter the kitchen looking around for any threat.

I see Jackson sitting on the ground, with his back towards me and what I presume to be water splashed on the floor around him. Spotting the shards of glass on the ground, a breath of relief escapes me as I finally connect the dots together. He probably came to drink water and dropped the glass which eventually woke me up.

"Hey, Jackson. What..." my words die down in my throat as I finally come face to face with him and see the red mixing with the water.

"Oh my God, what happened?" I ask, alarmed to see the blood.

I take his hand in mine to see the wound. His hand is clenched into a fist and blood drips from the inside of his palm. I try to loosen his fingers to see the wound but he doesn't cooperate.

"Jackson, you need to open your fist to let me see," I tell him softly.

H e raises his head to meet my eyes. His eyes are glazed over as if he is looking right through me.

"Jackson," I call him again.

The clouds in his eyes clear and if he finally comprehends what I am asking, he follows my eyes towards his clenched fist and slowly releases his hold.

"Thank..."

For the second time this night, my voice fails me as I look at the piece of glass lodged into the palm of Jackson's hands.

"What did you do?" I ask in a shocked voice.

Pulling myself together, I reign in my emotions because at this moment they will probably do more damage than good. I quickly lift his sleeves and I am so relieved that there no new scars there.

Jackson realizes what I am doing and maybe that's why he says, "Wade, I told you I don't do it anymore."

I arch my eyebrow at his statement and look at him questioningly.

"It was ...an accident," he says in a low voice.

"I will take your word for it," I tell him and standing up, I motion for him to get up too, "Come on, we need to bandage your wound."

I help him up and we make our way towards the living room. I am about to exit the kitchen when my eyes fall on the three beer cans laying on the counter that I had missed in the frenzy. Thinking it better to ask him about it tomorrow, I decide to drop the topic.

Taking out the first aid box from the washroom cabinet, I make my way to the living room only to find the room still engulfed in darkness. I switch on the lights and Jackson, sitting on a sofa at the far end of the room, flinches visibly at the sudden explosion of light.

I make my way towards him and for the first time tonight, I take the time to observe his feature. He looks so pale and his eyes are red, the dark circles around them giving him a ghostly look. I take his hand in mine and start to clean the wound. We sit in silence for a moment, me bandaging his wound and him looking straight at the wall.

"I miss her, Wade," he finally speaks up.

I decide not to ask him who he is talking about. I mean if I don't know about her, it's probably because he didn't want me to know, right?

"Aren't you going to ask who she was?" he asks when I don't reply.

Was? Does that mean I have already know who he is talking about? Before I say anything he continues, "I didn't even realize how much I had missed her until I met her at the concert."

Oh, so that's who he is talking about. The girl who came to meet him after the concert ended.

"You know, when I asked her to meet me I was 90% sure she was going to say no. And when she said yes, I was afraid she was coming to slap me," he continues. Well, who could have guessed drunk Jackson was actually quite talkative. Seriously, this might have been the most I have heard him talk in a while.

"You met her again?" I question him.

"Yeah, on the day we were coming back," just as he finishes, he realizes his mistake.

"So you are telling me, the time you suddenly disappeared for two hours, almost gave me a heart attack and refused to tell me where you had been, you were actually meeting her?" I inquire.

"Maybe," Jackson replies weakly, making me chuckle.

"Jackson, I was worried about you. You remember what happened the last time I couldn't find you, right?" I know I shouldn't guilt-trip him but the whole crew was worried for him and we were just short of calling the police because we thought he might have been kidnapped or something.

"I am sorry"

"It's okay. Just don't do it again" I reply with a smile finally finishing up his bandage.

"Okay, let's get you back to bed."

He gets up and walks a few steps before looking back at me, "You actually don't want to know about her?"

"Oh, I do. I really want to know what's so special about her that you drank alcohol after two years but I want to hear it when you are sober and actually wants to tell me, not because of the influence of alcohol," I reply, putting the bandages back into the first aid kit.
