Chapter 3

Evelyn's POV:

Cade smirks as our eyes meet and a light blush appears on my cheeks.

"Oh Hello there, Handsome. Of course, we don't mind. Come join us. and by the way, your eyes are so beautiful." Jessica chirps forcing him to break our eye contact and look at her.

He smiles at her and thank her as he slips off his backpack taking a seat next to me despite an excited Jessica motioning him to sit beside her.

"I am Jessica. Are you new cause I am sure I would have known if you had been around here longer than a day. I can already smell the gossip that you will be causing today," Jessica continues not minding the fact that he didn't take a seat next to her.

"Yeah, it's my first day today. I am Cade by the way," he answers her question while I just listen to their exchange and continue eating my pizza.

"I guessed that much. I am in the second year but Evelyn here is a freshie as well. Have you seen her around?" Jessica says

"Yeah, she is in some of my classes. I am must say she has a knack for making first impressions", he turns his head around to face me and the same smirks make his way on his face.

"Really I did not know that." Jessica laughs but gives me a look making me certain that she senses some backstory and is going to bug me later until I tell her everything.

"Although the same can be said about you as well," I speak for the first time as I try to defend myself.

Cade gives me a confused look while Jessica just looks at us with an amused expression.

"At least I am not the one carrying "Me before you" in my backpack. I didn't take you for a romantic but looks like I stand corrected," I reply meeting his gaze.

As soon as I say this, he looks at his bag only to find the cover peeking out. He looks flustered and quickly closes his bag properly and shoves it under the table.

Jessica laughs at his flustered expressions.

"Don't worry. Nobody's judging you. Evelyn just said that to get back at you. If it makes you feel any better I love that book as well plus its one of the few books which got a good movie adaptation." she reassures Cade.

He just smiles in return.

"So I heard there is going to be a welcome event for the freshmen this weekend?" Cade asks Jessica.

" Yeah, they do it every year. They do something different every time. Last year they did this festival and it was so much fun. I wonder what they are doing this year," Jessica answers.

"I heard its a concert," I reply having heard some girls talking about it in one of my classes.

"Yes, and guess who is going to be performing," Cade confirms my information.

"I don't know. I am very bad at guessing. Just tell me already," Jessica groans.

Cade leans in and looks at us one by one with a gleam in his eyes as if he is going to tell us a very big secret

"It's Jackson Miller!" he answers with his signature smirk.

We are silent for a few seconds that feel like an eternity to me as I feel like someone just threw a bucket of cold water at me. However, Jessica doesn't seem to share my sentiments and squeals loudly when she comes to her senses causing passers-by to give us weird looks as she pumps her hands through the air excitedly.

"Oh my God, I can't believe this. they arranged a concert by Jackson Miller. I am not missing this for the life of me. Man, I cant wait to see him perform," Jessica rants while I just sit there looking at my empty plate.

"But wait. Isn't this event only for freshmen? How are you going to attend?" Cade asks curiously

"Technically they are supposed to be for freshmen but any student who is willing to make the effort can attend. You just have to have some tricks up your sleeve," Jessica winks at him.

" Guess I will be seeing you there then," Cade laughs at her."What about you Evelyn, you will be joining us, right?", he looks at me with his piercing blue eyes, pulling me out of my own thoughts.

"Me? I don't know. Probably not," I shrug at his question.

"WHAT? You are going to miss Jackson's concert. Are you sure you are a teenage girl?'' Jessica shrieks causing heads to turn in our direction once again.

"Relax.'' I laugh at her reaction,'' I said I don't know. I might come but considering the pile of homework that we got on our first day the chances are slim,'' I say trying not to disappoint her too much.

"Screw homework. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Do you even know how much his concert tickets costs," Jessica insists.

"She has got a point. Some people will love to be in your shoes right now. His songs are to die for," Cade sides with Jessica.

"Forget his songs. Have you seen him? the man is basically eye candy. and his eyes are just so hot," Jessica gushed.

"Careful. I see a little bit of drool there," Cade teases her.

"Shut up." Jessica glowers at him but Cade just laughs some more.

"So what did you decide," Cade looks at me with hopeful eyes.

"Fine, I will go."

"yeaaaahhhh," Jessica exclaims while Cade looks at me with a triumphant look.

"I will pick you up then," he says.

"Careful there. you don't want to look too eager," Jessica chides Cade but he ignores her.

"wait wait wait. I didn't know I was going with you", I say.

Cade just smirks at me, "Well, you know now, and besides, Jessica is going with us too."

For the rest of the lunch, Cade and Jessica talk about Jackson's songs while I just sit there knowing full well that I am going to regret my decisions of going and thinking of any possible way I could to back out of it before I have to deal with the consequences of my foolish decision.
