23 - What Will You Choose?

"What are you doing here, hyung?"

"Oh my God!! Such a rude thing to say!! Now that you have someone to... uhhh... keep you company, you're kicking out this hyung."

Jin looked at Taehyung with a hurt look but Taehyung knows what a drama queen his brother-in-law is so he only raised his eyes at that.

"Stop with the drama, hyung." Taehyung said with a little laugh this time.

"This brat!! You don't say things like that when I used to bring you food!"

"Well, did you bring food?"

"That's- well, not this time."

"In that case, what-"

Taehyung stopped talking as he felt a little tug on his elbow. He turned around to see Kookie looking at him with wide, slightly glossy eyes and he realized that the other was scared. Taehyung immediately put a hand on Kookie's cheek.

"Oh no baby, we are just joking. Don't worry." Taehyung said with a soft smile as he tried to explain the situation. And then he turned back towards Namjoon and Jin.

"Hyung!! Look, you scared him." Taehyung said in a whining voice and Jin immediately came and sat on the sofa, next to Kookie.

"Oh, I'm sorry, Kookie. Tae and I are just kidding." Jin said as he wrapped a hand around Kookie.

Kookie looked at back and forth between two brothers and gave a tiny nod.

"But why are you really here hyung?" This time Taehyung had directed his question at Namjoon who immediately looked serious.

"Well, we do have something we like to talk about. We-"

"You know what!! I think I need a tea." Jin suddenly exclaimed, cutting Namjoon's words mid sentence.

"Kookie, would you like to help me make some tea?" Jin got up from the sofa and extended a hand towards Kookie.

If Kookie was surprised, he didn't show it. It was very clear that Jin didn't need any help in making tea, he just wanted to have a talk with Kookie, privately. Jin gave a pointed look to Namjoon before he lead Kookie to the kitchen.

"So?" Kookie said once they were in the kitchen.

He was nervous but curious at the same time. Jin didn't answer at first as he put the kettle on stove. He then turned towards Kookie.

"So. You and Taehyung?" Jin asked in a soft voice, trying not to scare the other anymore.

Kookie was nervous. He actually felt like a schoolboy who was sent to principal for doing something wrong but doesn't know what it is.

"Y-yeah.. it k-kind of turned out like that." Kookie replied as he fidgeted with the hem of his shirt.

"Kookie, I have no bad feelings towards you. Both Taehyung and you are big boys so whatever you do is totally up to you." Jin said with a soft smile and Kookie felt a little weight clearing.

But he was sure that Jin was not yet done so he waited to hear what Jin has to say.

"What I want to talk about is something else. It's about your memory, Kookie. And about who you are."

"What about my memory, hyung?"

"If you can have the opportunity, would you like to know who you are? Without having your memory?"

Kookie thought for a while. To know who he is, to know who Chim is, but not have his own memory to understand the situation or what happened between them, does he really want that?

And even if he did, what choice does he have? He can't very well leave Taehyung, he won't. But at the same time, he doesn't want the guilt of not wanting to go back when he can.

Call him selfish but he would rather enjoy life with Taehyung without having the guilty feelings weigh him down. Cause there's no way he would choose his past over Taehyung.

"I don't think so, Jin hyung." Kookie's voice was shaking with the intensity of his emotions and Jin gave a nod at that.

"Hmmm... I figured you might say that. If it's ok with you, I would like to know why."

Kookie looked at the man infront of him. Jin didn't look angry or disgusted. If anything, he looked understanding and compassionate even. He took a deep breath and spoke up.

Kookie told Jin about the memories that he's been having, little bits and pieces of his life that he gathered. He told him about Chim, and the last memory of them fighting.

And finally he told about his feelings for Taehyung, how he truly wants to be here, with him. How they both decided to take a chance on life, without hanging on to 'what ifs'.

He told Jin about how he decided that he will pick Taehyung over whatever he had in the past, good or bad. That Taehyung is he only one he needs.

And due to some miracle, Taehyung wanted him the same way. Kookie told Jin how he would do anything to prevent Taehyung from getting hurt. What if something compelled him to go back if he got to know about his past?

"What if there's a really, really hard choice that I have to make, Jin hyung? You can call me selfish but I would rather not be tortured like that. Cause I will choose Taehyung. I will always choose him over anything. I... uhh... I love him, hyung."

Jin raised his eyebrows at that and even Kookie was surprised with this declaration. He didn't really tired to label his feelings for Taehyung but now it was very clear that he, indeed, loved Taehyung.

After few seconds of silence, Jin gave a soft nod. This was exactly what he assumed he would hear. And now it's time to say his piece.

"Ok. Can't say I'm surprised. If that's your decision, I will respect that, we all will. And me and Joonie will stand by you and support you. I like you, Kookie and I care about you. As much as a person would care for another person."

"But you have to understand that I care for my brother-in-law a hell a lot more. As much as I don't want you to get hurt, I don't want him to get hurt even more."

"So I want you to remember this choice. Remember what you chose at this moment, and when the time comes with all your memory and information, when you finally know everything about your self, promise me you will make the same decision."

"Promise me that when the time comes, you will choose Taehyung over everything else. Promise me, Kookie."

Kookie felt like crying as he looked at the raw emotions in the eyes of the man infront of him. And there was only one thing he could do in this moment and Kookie would gladly do that as many times as Jin wants. Or anyone else.

"I promise with my life, hyung. It'll always be him."

Jin stared at him for few more seconds, as if to assess the truthfulness of that promise but then his face broke in to a soft smile. Jin walked toward Kookie Kookie and pulled him on to a tight hug and Kookie melted in to his embrace, finally feeling relieved and safe.

"Good. Now let's make those teas, shall we?"

Together, they made 4 cups of tea and went back in to the living room. One look at the two brothers was all Kookie had to do to realize the tension there was.

Taehyung looked troubled and nervous while Namjoon looked rather curious. Taehyung quickly walked toward Kookie and held his face in his hands.

"A-are you ok?" Taehyung asked in a tentative voice as he gave a reproachful glare to Jin and Kookie was sure he wasn't being playful this time.

Jin scoffed at the angry glare that his brother-in-law gave as he sat down near Namjoon. "Of course he is. I wasn't going to eat him or anything."

Kookie put his hands over Taehyung's hands which were on his face.

"I'm fine, I promise."

Taehyung looked intensely at Kookie to see any sign of distress and Kookie looked back with an reassuring smile. Taehyung gave a sigh and sat back down on the sofa with Kookie.

"What did you talk with him, hyung?" Taehyung asked in an even tone and Jin shrugged his shoulders.

"You can ask Kookie. He will tell you if he likes." Jin said in a playful voice but then his demeanour changed to serious. "And if he doesn't, I want you to trust me and not ask about it again, Taehyung."

From the moment he met Jin, Taehyung can count with one hand, the times his brother-in-law said his full name. It was always Tae or some sort of a endearing word.

Taehyung gave a nod and looked at Kookie to see him giving a grateful smile to the elder. That put whatever the doubts Taehyung had to rest.

They all had a enjoyable time after that, having meaningless chatter. Jin and Namjoon went after some time. When they got home, Namjoon took out a piece of paper from his pocket.

He had sent photos of few of Kookie's paintings to one of his friends in the field, asking him to try and identify whether the paintings looked familiar or matched with a certain artist. He didn't want to tell Kookie anything as he didn't want to raise his hopes. It was a long shot anyway.

But his friend came up with 6 names of artists that would match this style of painting and their contact details. That was what he and Jin went to talk with Kookie today. He thought about throwing away the paper but then put in to the drawer as a second thoughts.

The list had 6 names.

Park Jin-young.
Jackson Wang.
Kim Yugyeom.
Choi Young-jae.
Lim Jae-beom.
Jeon Jungkook.
