Letter about Harold Smith

All the underlines "____________" show illegible text. Your guess is as good as mine. Anyway, who the hell is Harold Smith?

__________ Harold Smith for the ___________ today.

I met him at a cafe in Arlowville.  ___ __ ____ ____ ____ ____ ____ ___ ___ ___ ___ ____ ___ __ __ __ ___ ___ ___*2. I offered to buy him tea, and he accepted. His words were congenial, but his tone was flat. Every time he spoke, I smelled something chemical in the air. I believe that he is on some kind of medication.

I asked him questions portaining (sic) to his memories regarding the CRA. His responses were as disconcerting as everything else about the meeting. He explained how he hosted several meetings of the group. He called them "get-togethers" *1 and "potlucks." He went into descriptions of how wonderful it was to entertain his guests.

I asked him how often he had these get-togethers. He said they were monthly. I asked him who planned them. He said that he planned them. I asked if it was ever hard to plan around everyone's schedules. He said that no one evera asked to change the date or complained.

He described the inner-circle pretty accurately: Sheryl Lee, Goaz, Ray, David Lee, J. Durham. He said they were always there, and they were his best friends. I cannot help but to think that these "get-togethers" are the murders.

While we were talking, I watched a bead of yellow snot grow out of his left nostril. I tried not to stare, but that, coupled with his splotchy teeth and those eyes, was much too much. His wheelchair squeaked in time to his breathing. I am sure that our waitress was an aspiring actress, or she should be. She did not show any signs of discomfort while serving us and deserves to be lauded for it.

I wanted to write this while the meeting was fresh in my mind. There is more to describe about this man, but they are for another time.

He never did drink the tea.

As always, and with great pleasure,

R. McNutt

*1: "get-togethers" was illegible. I decided that this is the right phrase after seeing it repeated later in the letter. I could be wrong.

*2: I had to break up the line to keep the formatting right. The breaks do not correspond to words.
