Letter: A Strange Language
Dear Mr. Blathe,
I recieved your letter. I am glad to see you using the sigalia I requested. This is very important in protecting our communications from our enemies. As you wondered in your messages, I do indeed have assistance in retrieving letters. Said helpers are ignorant of many of the issues we face, but are aware of my basic fears. Thus, I am happily able to interact with you and others even while living in fear of my life and sanity.
I note that you are confused about my words on the language. I will try to explain as best I can. Please understand that I am no expert in the matter. I know just enough to make myself dangerous, as the saying goes.
I will give you an example.
English: "I want Bob to make you eat cake."
Huh: "Bob LINK I cake eat you."
It's hard to describe the sounds, because I'm not entirely sure of them myself, so I will refrain from describing them. I will try to give you a sense of the sentence using English alone.
Here is a more accurate form of the Huh sentence.
"???-Bob-Force Link-Inverse Speaker-I-??? cake eat-Inverse you.
The best I can say at the moment is that Bob is the most important person in the sentence, so is always first. The "I" is the speaker of the sentence and is telling or asking (I don't know) Bob to make "you" eat cake. This is a weird construction. The "Inverse" marker says that the second noun is the subject of the verb. "Cake eat you." means that the cake will eat you, but "Cake eat-Inverse you." means You eat cake. This kind of structure does exist elsewhere.
There is much about this language that is truly disturbing. This sentence has the pronoun "you" at the end. This says that the "you" is the victim of control, oppression, or other violence at he hands or behest of the nouns listed earlier. Indeed, the suffix "Force" indicates that "Bob" takes on the role of forcing "you" to eat the cake.
I cannot describe what "Link" refers to other than saying that it is much like a super-powered "To be."
There is much more that I am learning as I write this, but I feel Morpheus calling to me. Perhaps I will write again tomorrow.
As before and in the future, thank you,
E. McNutt
