Chapter 8

Spencer woke to the sun shining through the window. He looked around to find himself inside a queen size purple bed... Last night definitely did not go how he had expected it... He rolled over to look at the alarm clock before shooting out of bed to find his clothes, it was eight and he needed to be home to get his mother her pills.

"What's your problem ringworm it's still early." She moaned rolling over to face him.

Spencer had just finished buttoning up his shirt, "my mom.... I have to get home!"

"Kay I'll drove you just hand me some clothes." Spencer picked up the robe that lay at the bottom of the bed and handed it to Emily.

As Emily pulled the car into a visitors spot as Spencer shot from the car nearly falling over on the way out. "Hey! Spencer?" Emily called slowing him down. "Maybe we could go grab breakfast? After your mom knows your alive and well?"

"Um yeah that would be cool, let me just get changed.... Just stay in the car I'll only be a minute." He rushed into the building and up the stairs in hopes of finding his mother asleep on the couch where he left her yesterday.

When he walked into the room he found Diana pacing the door mumbling to herself. "Good morning mom." He smiled closing the as quietly as he could.

"Spencer Andrew Reid! Where have you been! It's nearly three in the morning!" Diana scolded her son.

"Mom it's eight in the morning okay? Come sit down and have something to eat alright?"

"Will you be joining me?"

"No, I'm going to breakfast with a friend."

"Oh what do you have planned with Jennifer today?" Diana smiled sitting on the couch.

"Actually it's someone else, her name is Emily." Spencer smiled while he buttered toast for his mom and poured some coffee.

"What a beautiful historic name, it's French did you know that?"

Suddenly a knock on the door tore the two away from their conversation. Unlocking it Spencer found Emily on the other side. "Sorry I know you told me wait in the car but you were taking a while so I didn't know if you were still coming or not."

Spencer turned back to see his mother watching them. "No it's fine I'm almost done I'll meet you back down stairs alright?" Before he could get the door closed Diana had already stood up to make her way over.

"Hello dear, I'm Diana and you are?"

"Oh I'm Emily." The raven haired girl smiled extending her arm but Diana stopped smiling and stepped away from the door, Spencer knew that look and it wasn't good his mothers stint of lucidity was ending and it didn't look good.

"Alright Em I think we should head out-" but he never got a chance to finish.

"You're an agent! Get out both of you! How dare you bring a government agent into my home! Leave right now!" Diana was in hysterics thrashing around attempting to slam the door on Emily's face.

"Mom stop!" Spencer pleaded hoping to calm her down before someone got hurt. "She's not an agent she's my friend, now let go of the door!"

Diana shot away from the door. "I am just trying to protect you Spencer."

"Go lay down mom." Diana did as she was asked, she lay on the couch and almost fell asleep instantly. Spencer placed her pills and breakfast on the coffee table before heading out the door with Emily in tow. Neither talked for some time Emily just kept driving her silver Honda past the usual breakfast diners right out to the brow.

Emily killed the engine, unlocked the door and headed out to the clear patch between a pair of ever green trees. "Common ringworm!" Spencer slowly walked out of the car following Emily to the clear. Together they sat on the ground in complete silence listening to the sounds of nature. "So..." Emily started. "Are we going to talk about it?"

"Talk about what? My mom? Or the fact I had sex with you last night?" Spencer retorted.

"Both"

"She's a Paranoid Schizophrenic... Feels the world is always out to get her... And it never goes away."

Spencer walked into JJ's room to find her crouched over the end of the bed on her knees, her elbows balancing on the mattress, her hands enclosed in a fist with her lips moving softly. "What are you doing?" He asked the seven year old.

"Praying" was her response.

Spencer walked over and joined her on the other side of the bed. "Why?"

"Because I'm talking to God, I'm begging for forgiveness, I'm thanking him for everything he's done for me as well... And I'm asking him for something."

"What are you asking for?"

"Im asking for your mom to get better."

Spencer couldn't help but smile. "Is it working?"

"I hope so mom and dad tell me to pray for people who are sick so they will get better so that's what I'm doing."

"Could I pray with you? Maybe if two people ask it will get to him faster?"

Oh how Spencer hated religion...
