Spencer was awaken by the unexpected weight resting on top of him. He opened his eyes to fine Gillian sitting on his side and JJ leaning over the couch. "Good morning Spence, mom has breakfast ready and we gotta go so you can grab your stuff from your house." Smiled JJ running her hand through his hair.

"I'd get up but I have a heavy lump on top of me." Spencer groaned.

"I am not heavy!" Whined Gillian beginning to stand up.

"Yeah I guess you right." He crept up behind Gillian and lifted her up swinging her around the basement was erupted with giggles and laughter, Spencer was running around the room carrying Gillian while JJ chased after them. Eventually JJ gave up and sulked up the stairs leaving Spence and Gillian alone in the basement.

"So... Spencey?" The small blonde stood on the balls of her feet.

"No Gillian, the answer still is and always will be no."

"Come on Spencer all you have to do is ask her out on one tiny little date. It's a brand new year, your senior year take the plunge!"

"You're twelve what do you know Gill?"

"That you're in love with my sister." She smirked, she looked so much like her older sister.

"I need to change and get to school, I'll see you tonight Gillian."

"Bye Spencer!" Gillian gave him a hug then took off up the stairs.

The resident genius walked over to the bathroom and took a shower then redressed in spare clothes he had over at the Jareau house he could help but think of their first day of grade nine.

Reid had spent the night as Diana was having another episode. The two best friends stayed up playing poker most of the night because they were extremely nervous about starting high school.

"People don't like me Jen... Not even in preschool how am I supposed to survive high school?"

"Well I liked you in preschool so I guess I'm a nobody... But I'd be a nobody if it means I get to be your friend." She sent him a soft smile when she looked up from her cards capturing his attention. She had the most beautiful eyes in Spencer's opinion, her hair was soft and shiny the perfect blonde colour, and she was his best friend. The most beautiful girl in the entire town was his best friend and she wasn't afraid to admit to anyone.

"You're not a nobody everyone loves you JJ."

"I know I just needed to distract you long enough so you'd stop counting cards. Dealer takes two and would you look at that full house ace over fives."

"What no? I have an ace how did you...? I thought we agreed you'd stop cheating!" JJ and Max had a habit of stashing hidden cards around the dining room table to be able to beat Spence when they would play.

"What can I say? I am just that good Spencer Reid, bow down to the queen of poker!"

"You promised you'd quite cheating when we played."

"Stop your whining it's just a game."

"I'm serious though JJ... What if they pick on me like every other year?"

JJ stood from her spot around the kitchen table to walk over to Spencer, she wrapped her arms around his neck and place her hands on his chest leaning her chin on his shoulder. "Then I will kick their asses every which way imaginable."

"Can you try not to sprain or break anything this time?" Spencer pleaded

"Hey Riley Matthews totally had that coming, those horn rim glasses make you look so adorable." She patted his face softly. "I talked to Max yesterday and he told me something really interesting. He said high school will be the worst four years of your life-"

"Isn't that reassuring." Spencer dropped the sarcasm into the sentence.

"I wasn't finished. They will be the worst but once it's over it all gets so much better. And if high school was the best four years your life really sucked afterwards."

"Wise words I guess."

"I believe they are."

JJ had now moved to be sitting on Spencer's lap sideways resting against him. He had his hand on her back gently rubbing it up and down.

"We should get married." JJ said bluntly causing Reid to choke on air.

"We're fourteen!"

"I know but I mean when we're older like thirty! If I am not married by the time I'm thirty then you have to marry me."

"But what if I'm married JJ?"

"Then you get sister wives."

"I don't know if I'm comfortable with that..."

"Too bad."

"Okay well then Jennifer Jareau do you promise to kick anyone's butt who attempts to bully me at anytime in high school?"

"I do Spencer Reid, I promise to protect your scrawny ass from anyone who attempts to kick it."

"Even when you have to come and save me from swirlies in the girls washroom and I yell at you saying I can take care of myself?"

"Even if you leave me at the altar of our sister wives wedding."
The two sat in a comfortable silence for a while until JJ spoke again. "Normally you're supposed to kiss the bride now... After vows..."
She watched Spencer's turn a deep red. "I'm only kidding Spence, breath, please."

He let his lungs fill up with air before attempting to stand up. "I think it's time for bed JJ."

"Alright Spence let's go." She took his hand and the two walked together to her bedroom.

JJ had kept her word about protecting him throughout high school she once single handedly took on the entire football team after they beat, stripped and tied him to the goal post. He hadn't picked her up after soccer practice so JJ had decided to check the school library to see if Spence had lost track of time. When she made it to the top floor of the school it was the perfect view to see what was going on below her on the field. She had called out her now ex-boyfriend Jackson Mizzo also the team's wide receiver on being apart of this horrible antic against her best friend. After threatening to call the police they finally let Spencer off the post and walked away from the scene. The night was very intense with an awkward walk home in JJ's soccer shorts and overly large school sweater, the blonde had also spent the night for the first time at Spencer's house as Diana was having an episode and neither really felt like explaining to Mr & Mrs Jareau the events of that evening. The next morning JJ formally and publicly broke up with Jackson so there would be no confusion on their relationship.

Spencer made it up the stairs and into the kitchen just in time to see the Jareau's off to work.

"Good morning deary!" Smiled Mrs. Jareau. "Coffee is in the pot and breakfast is on the table."

"Thank you Sandy." Smiled Spencer.

"The first day of a new chapter starts today doesn't it lad?" Mr. Jareau asked adjusting Spencer's tie for him.

"Yes I guess it does Andy..."

"Oh don't pull that long face, one more year and all those monsters will be kissing your ass praying that you hire them." Andy smiled down at Spencer.

"Andy! Language!" Hissed Mrs. Jareau.

"Come one dad! I'm going to be late!" Stated Gillian.

Andy sighed grabbing his brief case off the dining room table. "Don't blow a gasket June bug we are leaving now."

"Hold on!" Sandy yelled over the zoo she called a family. "Spencer and Jennifer need a picture together to go with Max's and Roz's senior year pictures on the wall."

As if on cue JJ emerged into the kitchen, she wore black denim shorts, an over the shoulder hot pink shirt, matching pink high tops and a silver clip bracelet with a heart in the middle filled with fake diamonds. Both of which Spence had bought her this summer for her birthday, she had bought him comic con tickets.

The two seventeen year olds stood together getting their pictures taken. "You two need to get closer." Commanded Mr. Jareau. JJ slipped her hands around Spencer's waist pulling him close so her cheek was resting on his chest, instinctively Spencer's arms wrapped around her torso, his hands stopping at her lower back and rested.

"Perfect!" Smiled Sandy. "Now have a great day you two. And as usual you are welcome to dinner tonight Spencer. Bye!" She called out and received the same response.

JJ and Spence were the last ones to leave the house, he grabbed his keys from his pocket and headed out to his car JJ trailing behind.

"Can I drive the Volvo?" Pleaded the blonde.

"No way!"

"Please I'll be careful!"

"JJ you don't even have your license..."

"I have my beginners permit."

"And I'm on my G2 and this is MY car therefore MY rules and I say no."

JJ started pouting giving Spencer her puppy dog look.

"Fine... But today only... And only to drive us to school."

"Yes! I love you Spence!" JJ jumped around to the drivers side of the car and got it.

By the time they got to the Reid's apartment Spencer felt like the had whiplash. JJ kept starting and stopping in an attempt to work her footing "it's not a stick shift JJ! Use the gas to go and break to stop!"

He made the blonde stay in the car while he run up stairs to grab his things his mother way still fast asleep on the couch so he didn't want to wake her and talk about getting ready for the first day of school. He laid toast on the table with a cup of coffee before leaving.

The next stop was picking up Derek, Pen and Aaron, JJ tried the best she could to drive his car without breaking anything but Spencer's words of encouragement weren't very helpful. "This is why you failed the driving test Jennifer... Twice!"

After picking everyone up they finally made it to the school in one piece... Once the car was parked and the engine cut everyone but JJ rushed out as fast as they could.

"I'm alive!" Penelope yelled.

"I wasn't that bad." JJ pouted.

"Oh blondie yes you were." Derek smirked pulling their bags out of the trunk.

"I've seen worse." Aaron smiled.

"Thank you Hotch, at least someone thinks I should drive."

"I never said that I just said I've seen worse." He smirked before quickly walking away from the angry petite blonde.

"Oh thank god my car is in one piece!" Breathed Spencer. "It cost me a lot to get it you know JJ."

JJ's eyes widened as she glared at her best friend. "You took your moms credit card and played online poker with it and used the winnings to by the Volvo!"

"And the shoes you are wearing." He stated.

"Which I adore."

"Alright Bonnie and Clyde, it's schedule time." Everyone pulled out their semester schedules then handed them to Reid. He did a once over and handed them back to everyone.

"JJ and Penelope you have home economics together.
Derek and JJ you have co-Ed gym together.
Aaron,Derek and Pen you have bio together.
Aaron and Pen you have drama class together.
Pen you're on your own for computer programming.
Aaron you and I have physics together.
And you and Derek have home repair.
Derek you have auto shop by yourself.
I have advanced calculus alone but chemistry with JJ.
JJ you and I also have English together."

"Well done pretty boy and record time too." Derek laughed. "Well classes start in five minutes guess it's time to go, bio first." Everyone nodded their heads the three friends in biology class headed out to the science wing while JJ and Spence waited by the car a little longer.

"I'm really sorry about the Volvo..."

"It's fine but you are never driving it again do you understand me?"

"Aye aye captain."
