HE BROKE YOU

Months past, fleeting glances were never acknowledged and as always, you remained alone just as you preferred it. It was peaceful and something you never knew you needed, or even wanted. You had learned that bullying and teasing others was seriously beneath you and amongst the entire incident that occurred, your mother had seemed to believe you really needed a breath of fresh air.

You had transfer to Touou Academy. It was awkward, you were the new kid in the middle of the year but it didn't matter to you. People didn't matter to you, only one did - but that wasn't important as of now. The main point of importance at the moment was that you could finally wake up and go to school with a deeper appreciation for the good people.

But that was a problem too,

Good people seemed like they were good at hiding their deeper intentions. Trust, you'd found, had become a problematic issue for you. It was easy to be nice to someone but you weren't good at detecting who was genuinely nice or not. It was scary, if you were being honest because the only person whom you were sure, was there for you, was your mother. She assisted in aiding your problematic behaviour by letting you decide whether you wanted to complete your schooling in Kirisaki Daiichi or in another school.

It wasn't hard to choose.

She didn't ask questions, she didn't pressure you and she knew when to ask if you were alright and when not to. Even when you had been a pretty big bitch to her, it seemed like she noticed your neutral and sour mood and when you finally stopped snapping at her, she thought something had happened, something troubling and possibly scarring. Something that made her think of you properly and your well-being.

You were at a new school now, no one in Kirisaki Daichi knew until your homeroom teacher announced it after a week you had left when it was finally official. You didn't know what Hanamiya thought of your move, you didn't know if he knew it was mainly because of him and you didn't know how he felt about it or what he did in response to it.

The thought of him watching your empty desk in despair definitely helped in making you feel a little better, though.

It was the beginning of the Winter Cup and you were attending. Mainly because there was nothing else to do and your school was competing; with one of the Generation of Miracles to boot. So, you'd been walking in by yourself, hoping to not be seen by anyone you knew as you found a vending machine, you pull out some coins and push them in and you pressed the numbers for your favourite snack until a hand came from around you to push the button and grab the chocolate bar from the compartment.

You gasped at the action, frightened until you turned and noticed light purple hair, messy and untamed. Your heart stopped and you saw Kazuya grinning at you, popping a bubble of gum in your face as he unwrapped your snack and ate it. His arm landed on your shoulders, hugging you into his side as your heart sped up at the sound of another chuckle.

Kentarou Seto was there as well. But no one else was, you couldn't help feeling relieved, tugging Kazuya's hand off of you in disgust when you finally realised he'd stolen your food,

"Oi, what gives?"

Your voice didn't have as much flare as it used to, you never intended to sound entirely mean but you were in the right to defend yourself and question his actions when he did that. To your response, he chuckled more and his friend joined in too. You were still scared of the captain showing up, "Ohh, is the pathetic [Lastname] here for the captain?"

Your blood ran cold, thoughts running through your mind about his tormenting, shit-eating grin that had you shaking. You didn't want this, not at all. You didn't want this to happen and you had forced yourself to think of other things, like the other person who'd been running through your mind so much since entering your new school.

"N-No.. I'm go-"

"You don't even play, let alone watch - you must be here stalking the captain, right?" Kentarou huffed out, holding his basketball bag behind his shoulder with a raised brow. In response, Kazuya laughed loudly and chewed on the snack obnoxiously as you felt heat crawling up from your back to your neck and your cheeks, "She's blushing." He'd pointed out quickly, you looked away, annoyed and upset before another voice came from the hall,

"Oi, [Name], let's go already."

Aomine arrived and your heart skipped a beat, you almost ran to him and breathed out in relief when he noticed how distressed you were, you quickly thanked him and he shortly nodded in response even if he didn't know why you were thanking him but it was pretty obvious from the other two surrounding you with smirks on their lips.

Aomine simply glared at them and turned around as you followed him, "Satsuki was worried about you, she made me look for you." He spoke gruffly, his voice filled with annoyance but you knew better, "She threatened to take your magazines, didn't she?"

Still shaken by the previous situation that crashed on you, you hadn't smiled like Aomine was expecting. You were still on guard and even worse after what happened. He knew it had something to do with those guys but he didn't really want to pry too much.

"She said that she'd burn them, she's so annoying.."

At that though, you couldn't help smiling at the thought of the pink-haired girl doing that. Aomine knew you were smiling, it was like you always smiled around her and he couldn't help it when the corner of his lips tugged upwards.

The both of you walked together, increasing the distance between the players of Kirisaki Daichi and yourself and you looked at the other tall plays of the Winter Cup until a voice knocked you from your reverie, "[Name]-chan!"

A force almost knocked you over until you felt their hands gripping your back as they embraced you tightly and you blushed deeply when she snuggled into your neck, "You took so long! I was getting worried!"

Momoi Satsuki released her hold on you momentarily to glance at your face, you were shocked and blushing bright red as she peered up at you with those bright eyes, "Ye-yeah, Aom-Aomine told me... Sorry.."

Stuttering, you internally cussed yourself and your grip on her loosened a little though she didn't entirely let go of you, your heart was beating fast and she shook her head stubbornly, "No, don't apologise! I'm glad you're fine."

"She was with those Kirisaki Daiichi assholes." Aomine answered in the silence and your eyes snapped at him before you slowly looked back at Momoi, "Yeah..."

"Are you alright!? Did they do anything?" She released you to hold your hands desperately and you choked, heat coming to your face twofold as she most likely knew about your affiliations in your previous school. It was embarrassing and humiliating and awkward all at once but you didn't get to answer when the captain of Touou cut in, "Let's get going, we've got to get ready for the matches."

To your relief, Satsuki dropped the conversation but to your immense shock, she only released one of your hands and held the other, entwining her hands and squeezing gently for comfort because you just hoped to God that she wouldn't be grossed out by your clammy hands.

She didn't let go though, not even when the team and yourself went to watch the other games being played and you were so happy that you didn't even notice someone watching you, glaring at you with a slight frown on their lips.

"[Name]-chan?"

Momoi spoke to you, you heard it briefly, only thinking it was your imagination because of how sweet the sound was, "[Name]-chan," she released her hold on you and you grew frightful, "wh-"

"Kirisaki Daiichi's captain is watching you." She told you in a hushed whisper, her eyes remaining on him but you were still sceptical as to why she let go, not wanting to leave her side and then you saw his dark, hard eyes semi-hidden behind his black bangs, "O-oh.."

A terrible feeling formed in your stomach and you walked forward, quietly as you ceased to make eye contact, "It's been a while."

You didn't know how to reply after hearing his voice. Annoyed, irritated and intimidating, it was husky and you couldn't help thinking back to all the things that happened with him. The fun you had at school and the times you both shared under the sheets, it was bringing everything back and you didn't like it one bit. But maybe you needed this.

Perhaps to move forward, to ensure that he didn't mess with your life anymore and you wanted to make him know that you didn't want to associate with him any longer, you longed to do and say as you pleased without having his grotesque smirk showing up in the back of your mind,

"Why're you here?"

You flinched at his sharp question, taking in a breath to calm yourself, you couldn't help glancing over at Momoi who'd been watching you for possibly the entire time, Hanamiya didn't notice though. He just looked down at you, waiting, "I-I'm here for my school."

"Hmm, Touou Academy? A school I'd love to crush..." He smiled, full of ill intentions and you cringed, scared that your conversations with Hanamiya might fuel him on to hurt the people you've learned to get along with. Even if you were still sceptical about them but you didn't think about it when you replied, "No!"

He snapped his full attention to you, eyeing you entirely and a malicious smile grew upon his face but it dimmed down a second later, it looked like he'd been thinking of something as he watched your face. You were scared, apprehensive and nervous all at once and it didn't feel so good in your stomach and the way it was tightening,

"Well, I see you've moved on then, don't tell me you left because of me." He spoke smugly, as if he was proud of himself for making you do such a thing but there was no denying it now because you swore all of the communication you lacked in your relationship could all come spilling out now. But you didn't want to. You wanted to end this as quickly as possible so you could go back to standing by Momois side and hopefully she'd even let you hold her hand again.

It was scary but the things you felt for her were so different then what you felt for Hanamiya. She felt like the sun and the moon and all the stars but Hanamiya was just a ticking-time-bomb that became a life lesson in the form of him. All of his grins and husky voices and his tactics of seduction lead you to here and oddly enough, you didn't entirely regret it,

"I.. I did leave because of you actually...." He closed his mouth and glanced at Touou before narrowing his eyes back on you when you finally looked into his murky eyes, "I... I really like her, she's really beautiful inside and out... but I'm scared,"

You bit your lip and found yourself venting to your ex-boyfriend about a girl you've most likely fallen in love with,

"I feel like something will happen.. or I'll screw it up like what happened... be-"

between us

"Yeah, whatever - I don't care. The same thing can't happen twice, you idiot."

He clicked his tongue, angered that this happened to you, how this could've happened to someone like you because of how much you'd changed. It felt like he hardly knew you anymore. The charming and unbelievably attractive girl he knew before was practically gone now and it was his fault. He couldn't believe he actually felt sort of like shit about it.

"I- uh... I just don't know if I can trust people... I mean," you chuckled dryly, "I trusted you and look at what happened."

"Damn [Name], sounds like you're broken or something." He tried to play if cooly, you could tell even Hanamiya Makoto was getting awkward about this and you would've laughed if it had been under different circumstances,

"I am."

He stopped.

And he couldn't find it in him to look at you, "But I hope she'll be the one to fix me."

He watched you walk away with mixed feelings, his stomach and sunken in while he watched you make your way right to her and you didn't hesitate to take her hand in yours. You looked at her and she smiled at you, you smiled back and Aomine rolled his eyes at something that the two of you were talking about when his manager blushed.

You didn't look back at the captain of Kirisaki Daiichi but he saw the way the pink-haired girls face glowed in delight as she stared at you and down at your hand that tightly held hers.

Holy moly, me oh my, this guy is a dick but he makes my heart go doki doki
