WHAAA-

(If you understand this, he's back)

The demon strolled into the room, once again taking out the cult papers Laf had kicked aside. 'I'm back, friends.'

Okay now actually on with the chapter.

GEORGE'S POV

He. Called. Me. Dad.
HE CALLED ME DAD!
Alex drifts off to sleep peacefully, his cast leg raised in a sling of sorts, an oxygen tube going to his nose. The only noise is the steady beep of the heart monitor.

About 15 minutes later Doctor Bailey opens the door and slips through, smiling softly when she sees Alex.

After a moment of silence she speaks up.

"He's a real angel, that boy." She turns to us with a very calm expression, keeping her voice low as to not wake him. "I'm not sure of what he's been through, and I assume you don't know the whole story, but that boy... he's pure. A real angel." She says, turning back to Alex and standing on the other side of the bed.

"We adopted him a while back, wouldn't speak. He was terrified of everything, wouldn't look us in the eye for months. He's originally from the Caribbean, as you probably could have figured by his accent." I smile at her, and she returns it with genuine tranquility.

"The surgery went well. It took a little longer than anticipated, seeing as his ankle was in such a mess. Do you know how it got that bad?" She inquires, eyebrows furrowed slightly in curiosity.

"No, he didn't really speak to us for a few days and then just today he knocked on our door and asked us to take him to the hospital. He was laughing too, joking all the way here." I add, earning a quiet chuckle out of the short woman.

"I hope my son is like him when he's older, I'd be honoured to have been a part of raising such an angel." She mutters quietly, and you can definitely see the maternal side of her showing. The door opens slightly and she stands back, straightening her doctors jacket- the calm atmosphere almost erased as someone else entered the room.

Doctor Shepherd comes in, a stethoscope around his neck and a clipboard in his hand.

"I am pleased to say that the surgery was successful. We've stitched the wound and he'll need to come back to get them taken out. But, we had to cast it this time- seeing as it was completely broken." He repeats some of what Bailey has told us, gesturing to the large white cast on Alexander's leg.

"We're there any complications?" My wife asks hastily.

"No major ones, but we did have to use a longer plate as the damage was too much for the original plate to hold together." He says, adding a calm smile to prevent us from panicking.

"So you had to make the incision larger?" Martha inquires, a look of concern painted on her features.

"We did, but it will heal all the same." My wife nods, thinking silently.

"I'll give you sometime with your son. Doctor Bailey?" He asks, gesturing for her to leave the room.

"I'll be out in a minute, I'm just gonna check his pupil reflex." She whispers, and Shepherd nods slightly whilst leaving. She walks forward, tapping Alex's shoulder lightly to wake him up.

He wakes up with a whimper.

"I know, I'm sorry sweetie. Can you look at my light?" She coos, shining her small light into his eyes.

"Thank you, honey. Where does it hurt?" She asks gently. Alex doesn't reply, but instead just limply gestures down to his foot.

"Okay, I'll go get you some pain meds." She whispers with a soft smile, leaving the room once again.

"How're you feeling, son?" I ask him, slowly approaching the bed and resting my hand on his arm.

"Mm okay, v'ry tired." He mumbles drowsily.

"Get some rest, son. We'll still be here when you wake up. We'll always be here." I assure him softly. With that he closes his eyes and drifts off to sleep once more.
