Chapter 10

Word spread around quickly about Blackout's suspicious disappearance.

Most of the spirit wolves eyes were flashing white, with their ears pinned back with aggression, as they looked past their borders, as if they were waiting for Blackout to devour them all.

That's exactly what they're doing, Mizuki realized. They're waiting for Blackout to show himself so they can question him.

No, they can't question him, Mizuki thought with horror. Because Blackout won't answer any questions, he'll kill them instead. And the Spirit Wolves know it, they know the consequences of trying to do this peacefully. They have to choices, murder their pack mate? Or try to make peace that they all know would be hopeless, anyways?

"I hate this tension," Raiden grumbled. "It's making me nervous."

Mizuki couldn't agree more, and she felt a pang of sympathy for the wolf pups, who were in a protective cave where they would be safe in case Blackout did come.

Shadewalker snarled. "I hear him," he said. "Blackout is coming."

The Spirit Wolf Clan turned to face the enterance, with Alpha in the front, his face, despite his age, looked every inch of a leader.

Suddenly, Blackout appeared, and Mizuki realized just how big he was.

"Blackout," Alpha said, loud and clear. "We're giving you one chance. Surrender now, and we'll be merciful."

Blackout burst out laughing, before sneering at him. "I've always wanted to be Alpha, but you never chose me to be Alpha, even though I was the most capable! I'm stronger than all of you, and what a clan needs is a strong leader."

"A clan needs a good leader," Alpha corrected. "Someone who knows when he is making a bad choice."

Blackout snickered. "Fading, you idiot. You know that I can defeat you."

"But, can you defeat all of us?" A yellow wolf asked.

There was a beat of silence.

"Actually, I can," Blackout replied before giving a summoning bark.

The Spirit Wolves looked around as two giant werewolves appeared behind Blackout.

"You've made a huge mistake, Alpha." Blackout said.

"My friends, attack!"

Right away, the two giant were wolves pounced on Alpha, and tore opened his neck.

"Alpha!" Daybreak cried, as she watched Alpha fall.

"Spirit! Nightfall! Eclipse!" Shadewalker barked. "Starboard!"

Mizuki watched as Shadewalker ran to fight and bark commands at the same time.

Spirit, the small yellow wolf, ran up to one of the werewolves and bit his eye.

The werewolf screamed in pain and punched Spirit, who went flying and hit the ground with a dull thud.

Stardancer quickly took Spirit's place and tackled the werewolf, and soon Nightfall, Eclipse, Skylight and Moonlark was on top of him, pinning him down and crushing his skull.

Shadewalker paused as he got to Alpha, who was laying in a pool of blood. He stood next to Daybreak and stayed next to her for a moment, before closing Alpha's lifeless eyes.

"Will you fight with me? Even after all that's happened?" He asked, and Daybreak nodded.

Aibek and Lunar both surrounded the other werewolf and continued to taunt him, making the werewolf pretty triggered, and he swiped at Aibek's face, making the young wolf howl in pain and fall down.

Lunar quickly pulled Aibek away, and Daybreak ripped the werewolf's chest opened and Shadewalker slashed his neck.

The werewolf fell down, and there was a beat of silence as all the Spirit Wolves, minus Alpha, Spirit and Aibek, all turned to snarl at Blackout, their eyes out.

"Leave now, Blackout," Shadewalker snarled. "You betrayed the clan so you can be leader. But that's not what a leader does, leaders don't betray their clan! We can't trust you! Leave now, and never return, or we will kill you."

Blackout hesitated for a moment and the Spirit Wolves turned to snarl at him and approach him, menacingly.

Blackout let out a whimper of fear and darted away into the forest.

The Spirit Wolves looked around, Alpha was dead and Aibek was seriously injured. Skylight put her paw over Spirit, and shook her head. Spirit was dead too.

"So, what are we going to do Alpha?" Daybreak asked Shadewalker.

"Why are you asking me?" He asked, and for the first time, Mizuki heard panic in his voice.

"You're our new Alpha," Daybreak told him. "It's up to you to tell us what to do."

"Let's have a clan meeting," Shadewalker said. "I have an announcement to make."

"Yes, Alpha," Daybreak replied. "This is what you've always wanted. You're Alpha now, finally, after all those years of waiting."

As a Daybreak turned around and got the Spirit Wolves, Mizuki looked at Shadewalker, the cocky wolf who always talked about being Alpha.

Shadewalker's face was filled with sadness... and something else.
