Legs-up-the-Wall Pose ( Viparita Karani )
This yoga pose is not difficult. It's easy enough for anyone to do: You just lay down on your back on the floor & put your straightened legs up the wall to make your body form the shape of an 'L' ( I think I explained it well enough, but of course I'll add a picture, as usual :) ).
Here's what Legs-Up-The-Wall asana should look like: ⤵
It's a great Pose for a good sleep & to relax your body.
*How to do 'Legs-Up-The-Wall' Pose:
1. Sit down on the floor, sideways with your right side against the wall.
2. Swing your legs up the wall & your head & shoulders down to lie down on the floor.
( if you feel pulling in the hamstrings - get your sitting bones a bit away from the wall, it's not a stretching exercise - & you should feel comfortable )
3. Keep your lower back on the floor
( If the part of your spine at the base of your neck feels 'too flat' - you can use a small rolled hand towel to put under your neck - so better prepare the towel before you start the pose & put it close to you to let you reach it, just in case )
4. Open your shoulder blades away from your spine & release your hands and amrs out to your sides, palms up ( just like in the picture )
5. Keep your legs vertically in place, close your eyes, scan your body in your mind, think about the parts that need to relax, focus on them & relax them with conscious breathing ( that means focusing on your breath & controlling your inhales & exhales - it should help you relax quickly ).
< It works, I practice it - & I even felt relaxed now, while writing about this pose - just because I was Thinking About It! :D >
6. Stay in this pose between 5 & 20 minutes - then open your eyes, finish the breathing exercise & get out of the pose.
*How to get out of 'Legs-Up-The-Wall-Pose:
1. Bend your knees halfway toward your chest & roll to one side
2. Sit up using your arms to help you, move slowly & mindfully to keep the 'relaxing effect' of the pose
3. Now you can get up
4. Relaxed? :) - I hope so! ^_^
✖ Who shouldn't do 'Legs-Up-The-Wall Pose:
- pregnant women,
- people with glaucoma
- people with high blood preasure
- those who have problems with their spine & neck
🔹 ( I always mention disclaimers if there are any - because it should be said, but I guess none of my readers has any of the symptoms mentioned above - cause they all are very young & healthy - so They All Can do this Pose! ^_^ )
