The mysterious Yo-Kai
In the city of Springdale many were living normal lives, waking up, eating, working, sleeping and/or playing. There was the odd feeling or occurrence popping out of nowhere, but those were always random things in life many had to deal with. Everyone in Springdale lived perfectly happy lives.
That is if you were not Nate or Nathaniel "Nathan" Adams.
Up in the mountains on an old beaten path were two identical boys. One had fair skin with brown hair worn with three spikes resembling cowlicks and some that stuck out at his neck, and big brown eyes. He was wearing a red t-shirt with a white trim on the sleeves and collar that matches the star in the middle of the chest. Light grey cargo pants worn with a brown belt, and boots that resemble white sneakers accented by red and blue. He had a brown backpack on his back, that was surprisingly not rustling from the running. On his right wrist he wore a white watch that had black markings, and a bubble around it's clock-face with a small gap between it and the watch itself. Said clock-face was separated by four curvy black lines into four colors: pink, green, purple and light blue; there were two yellow hands representing hour and minute.
The other boy had tan skin with dark brown hair with three spikes resembling cowlicks and some that stuck out at his neck, and big brown eyes. He wore a white tank top, beige shorts, a blue cape and wooden two-teeth geta sandals. In addition to this, he had a necklace with a small orange pouch. On his left wrist was a blue watch with black markings, and a bubble around it's clock-face with a small gap between it and the watch itself. The frame around the face was a thick red inner circle with a thin gold outer circle, which was actually a dial. Like the other boys watch the face was separated by four curvy black lines into four colors: pink, green, purple and light blue; there were two yellow hands representing hour and minute.
These two were Nathan "Nate" Adams, and Nathaniel "Nathan" Adams respectively, the twin bearers of the Yo-Kai Watch and Yo-Kai Watch Model Zero respectively.
The two were chasing down a Yo-Kai that nether had ever seen before; it was an orb with black eyes that was switching between various shades and tones of grey. The moment it had seen them it fled, and rightfully so as they had caught it trying to absorb a Mirapo they had befriended. Said Mirapo had told them that another Mirapo had seen it absorb the Slimamander doppleganger from the Infinite Inferno. The two had been chasing it down since then.
"How fast is this thing!?" Nate yelled in agitation at the constant space between them and the Yo-Kai.
"Beats me bro," Nathan ran at a steady pace, not wanting to lose Nate by running at it full speed. Twin or not, Nate was the slower of the two. "But we've got to catch it before it absorbs another Yo-Kai! Right Hovernyan."
Beside Nathan was a flying blue cat with white paws, muzzle, and chest wearing a red cape, and dull grey belt with white in the center and a swirled sphere on it. The insides of his ears and nose were a dull pink, and he had a white scar on his forehead. "Right Nathaniel, if we don't get this Yo-Kai now who knows what will happen," Hovernyan shuddered at the possible scenarios that ran through his head, "I shudder at the thoughts."
"Don't worry you two I'm sure I'll remember who this Yo-Kai is soon enough." A marshmallow-like ghost with blue lips, black eyes, and black mask like mark around his eyes, a swirl atop his head, and a wispy tail that constantly billowed was flying above the two boys frantically swiping the screen of a pad-like device in his hands.
"By remember you mean 'look through the Yo-Kai Pad' then hurry up Whisper, we're losing it," Nate began to stumble and slow down considerably, gasping for breath with sweat beginning to flow down his face, "I can't go on like this for much longer, and there's no way I'm drinking another Staminum." Before Whisper could rebuttal against that statement, Nate tripped over a root and fell to the ground.
"Nate!" Nathaniel dived toward Nate, catching him right before they hit the ground. Nate was on top of Nathan, tired, sweaty, and in a desperate need of a drink of water. Looking down at his younger twin, Nathan reached into Nate's bag and took out a bottle of water and opened it. "Here, drink up." Using his other hand to lift Nate's chin up, Nathaniel brought the bottle to his mouth and slowly poured it into the parched orifice.
After about ten or so seconds of drinking, Nathan brought the bottle away from Nate's mouth and put the lid back on before sitting up and hugging Nate. Nate rested his head on Nathan's chest, and used the time they had to get his breathing back under control.
"Thanks Nathan," Nate huffed and puffed as he spoke, enjoying his brother's warm embrace.
"No problem, what are brothers for."
The two were there for a few minutes at most, taking in the sight of the path around them. The lush trees, the dirt road, and the various animals and Yo-Kai that passed through. Whisper and Hovernyan had taken refuged a couple feet away to give the two privacy, the mysterious Yo-Kai temporarily forgotten.
Nate closed his eyes for a moment, before snapping them open in shock. "The Yo-Kai!" He tried to get up, only for his body's tired state and Nathan's arms to prevent him from getting up. "Nathan--!"
"No, you're tired, exhausted, and in no condition to go right back into the chase," Nathan looked at Nate in a stern brotherly way that said 'try to get up and you'll have me to deal with', "besides the Yo-Kai is probably long gone by now, we weren't getting any closer or farther from it anyway."
"But--." Nate took one look at Nathan's eyes and sighed, "alright."
"Impressive, it takes me a long time to get Nate to NOT further stress his body when chasing a Yo-Kai." Whisper looked at the two boys, impressed with Nathan's ability to reign in Nate.
"That's Nathaniel for ya," Hovernyan said as he looked at the two with a smile, "always ready to protect everyone, even from their own recklessness."
Unknown to the four of them, a Yo-Kai was hidden in the trees looking at them, with a strange clock like device behind it. The Yo-Kai snapped their fingers and the clock unleashed a blinding white light that enveloped all of Springdale.
