Okay I apologize for having another Marvel centric but this one really does bother me a lot. So for those of you who my not be up to date with their Marvel news here's an abridged history. Back in the 90s Marvel was in a tricky situation. They were going bankrupt and they needed to get some cash fast, so Marvel sold off the movie making rights to a good deal of their properties like the X-Men. Well years later after X-Men Last Stand, a movie that many called a flop, Marvel decided to try and make their own movies based off of the products that they still had. This is what lead to the creation of Marvel Studios and I'm sure most can figure out the rest of that.

So now that the little poorly done history lesson is over let's get to the thing that I am upset with. Since MS does not own the rights to the X-Men, some of their most recognizable and relatable characters do to their use as a way to speak out against prejudice towards minorities, MS decided to move to what they considered the next best thing. Enter the Inhumans a group of super powered individual who look and act like normal humans up until they reach certain age when they can get wild and crazy appearances and powers and because of these powers they are hated and feared by mankind. Sounds like a perfect replacement right? Wrong. If you were to look any deeper one would realize that you can't just swap the X-Men for the Inhumans and call it a day.

I realized that second paragraph was also apart of the history lesson too and I just randomly just started typing this random thing. Man I would make for a horrible teacher or professional speaker. Oh well I digress.

 For starters the Inhumans getting their powers once they get to a certain age is only half true. The Inhumans don't actually have their powers emerge by simply hitting puberty like mutants usually do. The Inhumans gain their powers by being exposed to what is called the "Terrigen Mists". The criteria to being able to get exposed to this mist has been different for different facets of the Inhuman society and just some others not being on the same page as others. The criteria can and have ranged from having to prove one's "worth" to just simply having the right genetics. Remember though that these powers that set them apart and ostracize them from society are not usually forced upon them like with mutants. 

Another thing that sets the Inhumans apart from the mutants is what they represent or have represented throughout the years. As I have stated before in this and many before I was even active on this site have made note of the X-Men and mutants in general have been used as a metaphor for minorities with the most recent one being the LGBT community. The Inhumans have been used throughout the years as a metaphor for intolerance, isolationism, and separatism.

A third thing that really doesn't help the Inhumans builds of that last point. One of the biggest reasons the X-Men also work so well is because of one of their main mission objectives. The X-Men work to help save the humans that persecute them. Heck one of their catchphrases is "To protect a world that hates and fears them." The Inhumans have never really had that mind set. Usually its just protect our own and keep to themselves. Even now from what I've read from most of the new Inhuman related books it's still kind of just us first and everyone else second. I'm not claiming to have read all the books though so I could be wrong on that last sentence.

So there are my to big reasons on why I think the Inhumans make for a terrible substitute for the mutants and X-Men. I also on a personal level just don't like this. One being that the X-Men are what I grew up with. Heck my favorite superhero of all time is an X-Man. So I know it sounds petty but I just rubs me the wrong way that Marvel is trying to phase out the X-Men, a brand that pretty much was the main reason behind why the company was able to stay a float for a long time, for the Inhumans all because they just don't want Fox to make any money. Even with that the way Marvel is phasing the mutants and X-Men out just leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
