"Calm down. You're being stupid." Katsuki signed as he walked into the gym with Midoriya, who was still panicking.

"You don't understand. You've had your quirk your whole life and know exactly how to use it, I don't. The best thing that could happen is I break both my arms and get nineteenth." Midoriya signed, looking absolutely defeated and they hadn't even started with the tests.

"You'll do fine, you're just overthinking it, like always." Katsuki had known Midoriya basically his whole life, meaning he was used to this type of behavior.

The tests started and as expected, Katsuki was doing great with all of them. He had a great quirk for the type of tests they were put through. He wasn't even really pushing himself that hard and he was still beating most of his class.

In the end, he came in third, which meant he was beat by two people. Katsuki was livid.

Yaoyorozu, the girl that placed first, had a quirk that could create whatever she wanted, with some restriction or another, Katsuki didn't pay attention because he couldn't careless. She made different objects and machines as they went, using them to pass all the tests. She was technically using her quirk, so Aizawa let it slide.

Katsuki thought it was cheating, so he wasn't too butt hurt that she ranked above him.

But the boy that came in second, Shoto Todoroki, hadn't created trinkets to pass the test for him. It was all physical ability with the help of his quirk, fire on one side and ice on the other.

He really pissed Katsuki off. He had beat him fair and square, there was nothing Katsuki could use an excuse other than Shoto was just better than him, which Katsuki could never actually admit.

Once the tests were over, Midoriya came in last, cried and then learned he wasn't actually getting expelled, they were all sent back to the locker rooms to change.

The green haired boy had been noticing something all day with Katsuki and he was finally going to bring it up. "Hey Kacchan? You've been staring at Todoroki all day, why? Do you think he's cute?" Midoriya teased, wincing slightly from the pain in his broken finger when he tried to sign.

Katsuki scowled at what he was suggesting. "No, I don't think he's cute! I'm pissed that he ranked higher than me." He signed angrily. "You shouldn't be signing, you broke your finger. Just talk and I'll read your lips." He added, noticing the pained look on Midoriya's face when he signed.

Midoriya rolled his eyes at the excuse. "You really want me to talk out loud about the fact you think Todoroki is cute?" He mouthed to Katsuki, not actually saying anything seeing as it was pointless.

The blond's glare became even more intense. "I don't think he's cute!" He signed rather aggressively. "I'm not gay." He added as an after thought.

Midoriya shot him a look. "Kacchan, you came out to me like three years ago." He said, still not using volume.

"Whatever, you don't need to bring it up. Not every guy I look at I find attractive, okay? Do you understand that, Deku?" He signed in a mocking fashion.

"Yeah, I understand that, but you think Todoroki's cute. I know when you think a guy's cute and when you're just mad at them." Midoriya said with a smirk.

"I don't think Todoroki is cute! How many times do I need to tell you I don't find him attractive?" Katsuki signed.

Midoriya saw Shoto send them both a confused look and giggled at Katsuki. "I think you've gained someone's attention." He signed, pointing at Shoto, not caring about the slight pain in his finger.

"You're not supposed to sign!" Katsuki scowled at him, looking behind him at Shoto, who's full attention was on them.

Katsuki turned to the taller boy, clearly in a  pissed off mood. "Yes, I am signing about you." He signed at him, knowing that he wouldn't understand him anyway.

Midoriya's laugh was heard through the open area as he saw what his friend had signed. Shoto looked at him, completely lost. "He says that yes, he is signing about you." He translated.

Understanding takes over Shoto's features as Katsuki realizes what Midoriya must have just done.

"Deku!"

Everyone went silent at the unfamiliar and gruff voice, but Midoriya just laughed it off. "He looked like a lost puppy trying to figure out what you signed, I felt bad." He said.

"I can't understand you when you're laughing." Katsuki grumbled, lowering his voice although he couldn't hear how much.

"Sorry, I forget that sometimes." Midoriya signed to him, figuring it'd definitely be easier to understand than lip reading.

Kirishima walked up behind Midoriya, seeming very confused. "So that's what his voice sounds like?" He asked Midoriya, eyeing the blond in curiosity.

Katsuki flicked him off again, barely catching what he had said because he wasn't articulating his words as much as Midoriya usually did. All he really caught was voice, but he could fill in the blanks from there.

"Yeah. He doesn't really like to talk because he can't hear what he sounds like, it freaks him out a bit." Midoriya said, purposefully mumbling so Katsuki wouldn't know what he said. He knew the blond would be mad with what he had said, but it really wasn't something he had to be upset to admit.

Kirishima nodded in understanding. "I can get how'd that be weird. Hey um... do you think... you could maybe, you know, teach me some sign language? If you have the time of course!" He said awkwardly.

Midoriya giggled at how nervous he seemed. "Of course I can, just let me know when you're free." He said back.

He turned back to Katsuki, noticing that Shoto was still standing there, confused as to why they were signing about him.  "Oh jeez, sorry about that. Uh yeah, I was teasing Kacchan and you got brought up because you ranked higher than him. He's got a big ego you know." Midoriya explained quickly, not telling him the truth.

He had been talking to fast for Katsuki to figure out what he had said, which just pissed him off even more. "What'd you tell him Deku? I'm going to kill you if you said I think he's cute." He signed.

Midoriya smirked at him. "Is that your way of admitting you think he's cute?" He signed back.

"I'm leaving." Katsuki signed, walking out of the locker rooms and leaving his friend and Shoto behind. He couldn't hear it, but he knew that Midoriya was laughing as he walked away.

Once everyone was back in class for the last few minutes of the day, Shoto called Yaoyorozu over to his desk. She was probably the only person he had ever classified as a friend, seeing as they had grown up together. "Yes?" She asked.

"Can you do me a favor?" He asked her in a hushed tone.

She cocked her head to the side. "Sure, what'd you need Todoroki?"

"I need you to ask Midoriya what this sign means." He explained, putting two fingers to his chin with his thumb out and brushing them down.

"Can I ask why?" Yaoyorozu asked, still confused.

"He was signing with Bakugou about me and they kept using that sign. I just want to know what it means, but I have a feeling that he won't tell me. Just say you saw it online or something and ask him what it means." He instructed shooing her over to the green haired boy who was talking with Uraraka and Iida by the door. He was waiting for Katsuki to finish packing his things.

"Hello Midoriya? Do you have a second?" Yaoyorozu asked him politely.

He shot her a beaming smile. "Oh yeah, what'd you need?" He asked.

"Well I was scrolling through Instagram and I saw someone signing and I was wondering if you could tell me what a sign means?" She said, using the lie Shoto had offered her to use.

Izuku nodded eagerly. "Of course, what did it look like?" He asked her.

She mimicked what Shoto had showed her. Midoriya knew what sign it was quickly, obviously. "Oh, that means cute, but if you use all of your fingers it means sweet." He told her, clearly not knowing that she was asking for Shoto and not herself.

Her eyes widened as she took in the answer. "Oh okay, thanks for your help." She said with a smile as she turned back to Shoto. Midoriya nodded and went back to his own conversation, not even realizing where she was going.

"So what does it mean?" He asked her when she walked within earshot.

"The way you signed it? He said it means cute."
