When Shoto reached Katsuki's dorm, he almost knocked, but caught himself. He instead, slowly opened the door and peaked his head in, scanning the room. His eyes zeroed in on a troubling sight.
Katsuki sat against the wall, his head in his hands and sniffling. He was actually sniffling.
Not wanting to scare him like last time, Shoto slowly approached, hoping that he would notice the movement before he reached him. His wished was granted when a few seconds later Katsuki's head snapped up, his eyes narrowing at Shoto.
"What the fuck are you doing here, half and half?" He growled at him, furiously wiping away one of the stray tears that he had failed to hold back.
"Midoriya sent me up here," Shoto said, slowly taking a seat in front of Katsuki. "He said we should talk about what happened in the elevator."
Katsuki scoffed and rolled his eyes, leaning his head back. "All I got from that was 'Midoriya', 'talk', and 'elevator', so the answer's no. Get the fuck out of my dorm." He said, staring Shoto dead in the eyes.
The red and white haired boy took a deep breath, expecting the resistance. "Please, Bakugou. We need to talk about the kiss." He said again.
"What is there to talk about? It meant nothing. It was just a mistake. Save your breath and just get the fuck out." Katsuki said more forcefully, obviously not in the mood to deal with a stubborn Shoto. He just wanted to wallow in self pity for a little bit and not have to see anyone, was that really to much to ask?
Shoto nearly flinched at his harsh words, before he remembered who he was dealing with. "Do you think it was a mistake? Do you think I think it was a mistake?" He asked him, tilting his head in question.
Katsuki was squinting at him, trying to process his words. "That was confusing as shit." He muttered.
Shoto shook his head in disbelief at the blond. "Just answer the question."
It got quiet for a few seconds as Katsuki mulled over his answer. Shoto wasn't even sure if he would answer. Maybe he really did view it as a mistake. He started to stand, thinking that Katsuki didn't even care enough to talk with him.
"Yeah, I think you see it as a mistake." Katsuki said suddenly, but his voice was soft and uncertain. It was a full one-eighty from what Shoto was used to with him and took the dual haired boy by surprise.
Shoto sat back down, eyeing the blond. "Why would you think that?" He asked him.
As soon as Katsuki saw what he said, he redirected his eyes to the floor. One of the worst things about relying on visual language, was that in serious situations such as this, he couldn't stare at the floor or wall to make himself feel better. "Why wouldn't you? You kissed me, anyone would regret that." He said, right before he shut his eyes tightly and leaned his head against he wall behind him once again.
Now he couldn't see or hear Shoto, which meant he could just ramble without being interrupted.
"I'm- I'm broken, Todoroki. I don't know if you've noticed, but my quirk made me fucking deaf. I can't be a pro, and everyone who says otherwise is either stupid or pitiful. If anything, I'm a god damn liability. If I tried to save someone, I'd end up getting us both killed. This dream I have of being a pro, it's fucking pointless. I'm wasting everyone's time here. I should just drop out." He ranted, trailing off at the end.
He flinched when a hand was placed on the side of his face, gently guiding him to lift his head up again, but he kept his eyes closed. Even when Shoto softly rubbed his thumb against his cheek and trailed down to his lip and then back again.
Shoto was mildly annoyed that he wouldn't open his eyes, so he resorted to his last option besides just straight up smacking him across the face. He leaned forwards and connected their lips once again.
It wasn't a heated kiss or a long one, like the elevator. It was a soft and sweet peck. If Shoto couldn't tell Katsuki what he felt, then he'd show him.
When he pulled away, Katsuki finally let his eyes flutter open and Shoto took the opportunity.
"You are not a liability. You're one of the most capable kids in our class. Who gives a shit if you're deaf? That doesn't make you any less of a hero as long as you don't let it. You not being able to hear isn't a handicap, it's just an obstacle. An obstacle I know you can get past. One you know you can get past, but you're psyching yourself out. I'm not saying that it's going to be easy. Being a hero isn't easy for anyone, but it's gonna be even harder for you. I doubt anyone else could do it, but the thing is, is that you aren't just anyone else. You're Katsuki Bakugou. You can do whatever the fuck you want, right?"
Katsuki just stared at him wide eyed, unsure of how to respond to that. No one had ever... done that for him. Sure, Midoriya had made the occasional motivational speech, but it was never... that. He had no clue what to say.
Shoto raised a brow. "Right?" He prodded.
The blond just hesitantly nodded in response.
"Good, then stop moping." Shoto said, getting up and holding a hand out to help Katsuki up.
In true Katsuki fashion, he slapped the hand away and got up himself. Shoto let himself smile at the action. "You're back to your usual asshole self, good."
"I didn't catch most of that, but I did get 'asshole'. Thin ice, icyhot." Katsuki said with narrowed eyes as he leaned on the wall for support. He was just tired now and wanted to go to bed.
Shoto shrugged, lifting his right hand and making a puff of frost. "I think I've got it covered." He said.
Katsuki rolled his eyes as he moved over to his bed, sitting down and letting his upper body rest on his pillows.
"You're clearly exhausted, so I'm going to leave, but I'll be back here at like six tomorrow night." Shoto told him, before turning and heading to the door.
Katsuki watched him in confusion. "What'd you mean? Why the fuck would you come back at six?" He asked him.
The dual haired boy turned back around briefly, noting that he was still close enough for Katsuki to probably be able to read his lips. "I'm taking you on a date." He said simply. Shoto was quick to leave after that, hearing a few shouts of protest from the blond.
Once he was gone, he slightly smiled at the fact that Katsuki stopped yelling as soon as he was gone, giving in easily.
He pulled out his phone, clicking on the contact he needed. It rang for a few seconds before the other person picked up.
"Todoroki? You still alive?"
"Midoriya, I need you to teach me as much sign language as physically possible in one night."
