Blood on the Grass

The day started normally for the group. Well, if you call being stuck on a dinosaur-filled island normal. But that was until Yaz went missing. They looked for her, but what they found just a few miles away from camp was not what they expected. Yaz was lying in the grass, blood from a gash on her left leg, her breathing slow and shallow.

Sammy walked over to the unconscious girl. "Do we have any gauze and bandages left? And do we have thread and needles? I know what to do if we have those materials."

The rest of the group nodded.

"Okay, Ben, Darius, go find the compression bandages and gauze. They must be somewhere in the camp. Brooklynn checks Mainstreet for needles and thread or even super glue. And try to find anything that you think could help clean the wound. And pain meds, I know this will hurt like a bitch if she wakes up."

Brooklynn, Darius, and Ben nodded and ran off into the trees. She turned to Kenji.

"And Kenji, I need your help taking her back to camp. I'll carry her while you keep pressure on the gash to keep her from bleeding out." She said as she ripped off the bottom part of her shirt and put it on Yaz's leg.

"This will keep her from losing more blood. So I need you to keep pressure on it." Sammy and Kenji work on Yaz's leg to make her stable for transport. The makeshift bandage will hold just long enough to get to camp.

(A half-hour later)

They made it back to camp, and Yasmina was stable. Now, they had to wait for Brooklynn. When Brooklynn returned with pain medication, hydrogen peroxide, and medical glue as Sammy worked on Yasmina's leg, the others kept watching for anything that could've followed the scent of blood.

A few hours after disinfecting and closing the wound, the rest of the group went to bed, but Sammy couldn't sleep. She was worried that Yasmina wouldn't make it through the night.

Just then, someone touched her shoulder. She looked over to see Brooklynn her expression was one of worry. "Are you okay, Sammy? You were not in your bunk, so I just wanted to check on you."

Brooklynn placed a hand on Sammy's side where the Scorpius poisoned her. The other girl flinched slightly at the contact, shifting away.

"Please d-don't touch me right now. I n-need to be left alone." Sammy whispered, trying to contain her emotions. Brooklynn removed her hand and got up, leaving Sammy alone.

Sammy walked over to Yasmina's bunk and checked her leg. The glue was holding nicely, but it will surely scar. "I hope you survive tonight, Yaz, because...I - I love you. I never felt this towards anyone before I met you. And I wish I could repay you for everything you did for me."

As she went to get up to keep watch, she felt a hand lightly grasp hers. She looked over and saw Yasmina's chocolate brown eyes looking back at her hazel ones.

"Oh my god, Yaz, you're alive! I thought you weren't going to make it through the night," Sammy whispered, not wanting to wake the others. She lightly hugged the athlete as Yasmina turned over to face her, but as she did, her leg felt like it was about to split in two. Yaz let out a groan and grasped Sammy's shoulder to distract herself from the pain in her leg.

"Do you mind telling me what happened?" Yasmina asked through gritted teeth.

Sammy nodded and whispered, "You went missing. We found you a few miles away from camp. There was so much blood."

Sammy's eyes clouded over with unshed tears. "You were unconscious. I took control of the situation and got you back here. I had to glue the wound back together because there were no needles or threads. The wound will scar, and it is not going to be pretty, but I did my best to help you and - "

Sammy paused, trying to catch her breath. Her hand tightened around where Yaz gripped her shoulder, leaning forward to whisper passionately, "Yaz, I love you. More than just a friend, I had never felt love towards anyone before I met you, I know you may never reciprocate my feelings, but I thought I would lose you. I had to confess them."

Yaz was silent for a few moments mulling over what Sammy had just told her. The long, tense silence between them was finally broken when Sammy stammered, "I-I need to go keep watch."

As Sammy started to get up, Yasmina gripped her arm softly, pulled her in, and whispered, "Hey, hey, it's okay because I wanted to tell you that I-"

The athlete stops mid-sentence as she pulls Sammy toward her. Her calloused hands gripped the Texans. And with the strength she had left, kissed her.

The sweet smell of hay and marigolds made itself known to the athlete, who sighed as the scent filled her nose. Her eyes fluttered closed.
