Makoto had promised Haruka they'd go and visit the public pool today but due to a cold, he could not keep his promise and kindly asked his childhood friend to go on ahead and enjoy himself.
Having knowing Haruka for a long time, he was half expecting he'd have gone there by now and yet the other half was hoping he'd come and visit. Despite that hopefulness though, it still came as quite a surprise to Makoto when he woke up and found Haruka by his bed side.
"H-Haru—!" Makoto bolted up from his bed at the pleasant surprise before a cough took over. "—What are you doing here?"
Haruka, at a loss, got all fidgety and yet his poker face remained. He wasn't exactly sure whether to answer or not and placed his hands on Makoto's chest, positioning him back in bed in a a somewhat awkward manner. "Rest."
Makoto let out a soft chuckle. "Having you take care of me is quite unusual."
"Have you eaten?"
"Ah—" He shifted his gaze uncomfortably, indicating he had no appetite.
"I'll go make something." Haruka bolts up from his seat and headed for the kitchen, determined. Makoto, on the other hand, was left to wonder what his childhood friend was going to make before a cold sweat fell across his cheek. This is Haruka after all, what was he going to make other than—Mackerel?
"H-Haru!!" Makoto dashed out of bed and into the kitchen in panic before freezing in place at the sight of Haruka who was wearing a swimsuit and an apron leaving Makoto to wonder whether he'd been wearing that swimsuit under his clothes the whole time. With a ping of guilt about their broken promise however, he could not protest even though he was worried about his childhood friend catching a cold.
"What is it? I'll be done soon."
"That's not it..."
"Then?"
"Ah, well...I was just thinking Mackerel wasn't exactly something a sick person should eat so..."
"I know that already," Haruka's reply left Makoto in a confused daze. "I'm making porridge."
This whole situtation was quite foreign in their relationship. Haruka, making porridge? It might as well rain cats and dogs the next minute.
Makoto couldn't help but be left to think that this was all a dream since the development of everything was too much for a sick person to take in. It wasn't bad being pampered by Haruka, but he always enjoyed the feeling he got whenever he took care of him instead.
"You know," Haruka mumbled though it was enough to catch Makoto's attention. "You can be selfish with me."
Selfishness—that was something Makoto found hard to produce but, once in a while, maybe it wouldn't hurt...
"Thank you, Haru."
"Tch, go back to bed."
"Hai hai."

His earlier fatigue seemed to have faded slightly once he'd downed the last of Haruka's porridge. He chuckled at his friend's expression which made it seem like he was patiently anticipating Makoto's opinion. He, himself, was probably oblivious to it though. "It's delicious."
"!—How are you feeling now?"
The last thing Makoto ever wanted was to have Haruka worry over him and lied through his teeth. "I'm fine."
"I told you to be selfish." Haruka retorted immediately, seeing through Makoto's lie.
"Fine~!" Makoto heaved out a sigh, and closed his eyes. "My throat is sore, my head aches, my nose is irritated, and—"
He opened one eye, a playful smile forming on his lips at the sight of Haruka's slightly dumbfounded expression that he couldn't help but think was cute. "Ahh, this won't work after all."
"I-I guess so." Haruka replied, still slightly taken aback by his friend's sudden attitude change that was now no more. "You should get some rest for now, I'll come check on you later."
"Alright, thanks for coming."
"I'm not done yet," He leaned in close to Makoto, their noses touching. "Goodbye kiss."
This had become a norm in their relationship somewhere along the line and yet it only ever happened when Makoto had doubts.
"Y-you'll catch my cold."
"Tis' fine."
"As you wish." Makoto sighed with a smile and pulled Haruka in for a gentle kiss, caressing his silky black hair, knowing how much Haruka appreciated the gesture though he may not say it. "See you tomorrow."
"U-un." Despite his dazed mess, Haruka was still able to successfully make it out of Makoto's room with a wave, not wanting to bother his friend any longer.
Makoto sighed and pulled the blankets over himself. Not seconds have even passed since Haruka left and he was already feeling lonely, maybe it was because of his cold but he still couldn't help it. He'd have thought he'd take a while to fall asleep and yet everything had gone black in an instance.
To him, despite the realism he felt, all the earlier acts were just a dream, same as with all the other times he ever kissed Haruka, unbeknownst to him that they were all reality.
