Chapter 1
In every generation there is a chosen one. She alone will stand against the vampires, the demons, and the forces of darkness. She is the slayer.
---------------------------------------------
Yang Xiao Long; her parents, Tai and Summer; and her little sister, Ruby have all moved to Sunnydale after she burned down the gym at her old high school. Although, there were vampires, so it wasn't entirely all her fault. Right now, she was unpacking the boxes in her new bedroom.
"Hey, sis." Ruby said, coming into her sister's room and sitting on her bed.
"Hey, Rubes." Yang replied, hanging her clothes in her closet.
"How's your room coming along?" she asked sitting on the bed with her sister.
"Good. I unpacked my clothes and my stuffed animals, and I made my bed. I'll unpack the rest of my stuff tomorrow." Ruby replied.
"Are you ready for your first day at Sunnydale High on Monday?" she asked.
"Umm....not really." Yang sighed.
Since the whole "burning down the school gym" thing, Yang and her dad have been at odds.
"I think Dad hates me now." Yang said, hanging her head.
"That's ridiculous, no he doesn't." Ruby argued.
"Well, he's not exactly thrilled with me either, now is he?" Yang gruffed.
"He just....doesn't know what to say, that's all. I mean, what would you do if your daughter got into the amount of trouble that you did?" Ruby said, shifting into a crisscrossed sitting position.
"I guess I'd be pretty upset." Yang shrugged.
"Why'd you do it? Ya know, burn down the gym?" Ruby asked.
"Look, it's more complicated than that. I didn't mean to burn the place down, I was....I was doing something important and things just got out of hand." Yang explained.
"What was so important that it caused you to burn down the school gym?" Ruby asked, furrowing her eyebrows in confusion.
"Nothing you need to worry about, trust me." Yang told her sister, patting her on the shoulder.
Yang hates having to keep secrets from her baby sister, considering they used to tell each other everything...but that was before she became the Slayer. Being the Slayer is like being a superhero, nobody is supposed to know who you are and what you do in order to keep those closest to you safe. And Yang d*mn well wants to keep her family safe, so if she has to tell a few lies in order to do so, then so be it.
"Girls, put your shoes on. We're going to your uncle's house for dinner." Summer called out from the living room.
"Okay, Mom." both Yang and Ruby replied.
"Ya know, the best part about moving to Sunnydale is that now we live closer to Uncle Qrow, and his new boyfriend, Clover." Ruby said climbing off of Yang's bed.
"I totally agree, Uncle Qrow is the coolest. But...he teaches at the high school, so Dad's probably gonna make him "keep an eye on me" and stuff." Yang replied.
"Yeah, he probably will." Ruby nodded.
During the short car ride to her uncle's house, Yang just stares out the window, tuning out the conversation between her mom and sister. When they got to Qrow's house, Ruby nearly takes off the door getting out of the car. Then she nearly tackles her uncle to the ground jumping into a hug.
"Hey there, pipsqueak." Qrow said hugging his niece.
"Hi, Uncle Qrow." Ruby said wrapping her arms tighter around Qrow's torso.
"Hi, Qrow." Summer said coming up and kissing her friend on the cheek.
"Hey, short-stack." Qrow replied, Ruby still clinging to him.
"Where's Clover?" Tai asked.
"He's inside, taking the lasagna out of the oven." Qrow answered.
"Ooh, I'm gonna go say 'hi' to him, I haven't seen him since Christmas." Ruby said running into the house.
"Be careful running inside like that, sweetie!" Tai said following after his daughter.
The last to get out of the car was Yang.
"Hi, fire starter." Qrow said wrapping an arm around Yang's shoulders.
"Don't call me that. God d*mn, ya burn down one gym and suddenly you're a "fire starting delinquent"." Yang muttered, shrugging off Qrow's arm.
After dinner, the six of them go into the living room to play some board games. Ruby, Summer, and Clover were really into a game of Clue. Yang was sitting on the couch on her phone, and Qrow was in the kitchen washing the dishes with Tai helping him.
"Hey, Clover, is it okay of I start calling you "Uncle Clover"?" Ruby asked.
"Sure, kiddo, I don't mind at all." Clover replied.
"Hey, Uncle Clover, where's the bathroom?" Yang asked him.
"Oh, it's down the hall to the right." Clover told her.
On her way back from the bathroom, Yang hears her dad and her uncle talking. She pauses just before the entrance of the kitchen so that they wouldn't see her.
"I don't know what's gotten into her, Qrow. She's starting fights and cutting class, she's hardly ever home, and she burned down the school gym! She's lucky she's not in jail right now. What am I gonna do, I really don't want her ending up like...like..." Tai said.
"Like Raven?" Qrow finished for him.
"...yeah..." Tai sighed, rubbing a hand over his face.
"Oh, come on, Tai, Yang's nothing like Raven. Yang is a good kid, she just made a couple mistakes." Qrow told his friend.
"It's not just that, Qrow. She's also not really talking to me anymore and I think she's keeping secrets." Tai replied.
"She's a teenager, Tai. She's gonna want some space and some privacy, she'll talk to you about things when she's ready to talk about them." Qrow said, putting the last of the cleaned dishes away.
"Do you think things will be better here?" Tai asked leaning against the counter.
"You worry too much. If it'll make you feel better, I'll look out for her while she's at school." Qrow said rolling his eyes.
"Yes! Yes, please. Keep her out of trouble." Tai pleaded.
"*sigh* I knew it...Dad doesn't trust me anymore. He needs someone to watch me like I'm some sort of criminal." Yang grumbled to herself.
She goes back into the living room and sits on the couch with her arms folded across her chest, pouting.
"Something wrong, sweetie?" Summer asked her.
"Nothing, Mom, everything's fine." Yang mumbled.
When they got home that night, Yang goes straight to her room and goes to bed without saying "goodnight" to her family. That night, she has a strange dream about a bald, red-eyed vampire with sharp claws trying to escape and deep underground cavern. In the dream, she also heard whisperings of a "Master", she guessed it was who the creepy looking vamp was.
