Chapter Nine

Y/n's pov

The door creaked open and a light switch flipped on lighting the pitch black room. Slow deliberate footsteps started to make their way down the stairs. You kept your head tucked into your knees not wanting to look at him. You heard him sigh before he kneeled down in front of you and gently tugged at your leg, pulling it out of your huddle.

You didn't struggle against him as he fiddled with the shackle on your ankle and unlocked it. He pulled it off and sat up seeming like he wanted some sort of response from you.

Not getting one, his footsteps backed away giving you some space. You looked up from your huddled position letting your eyes adjust to the light. The room around you was exactly what you imagined, light gray concrete was prominent on every wall, no furniture, and Toby standing in the middle of the room.

"H-hey?" He tested as he pushed his goggles into his hair.

You didn't respond and looked at your now red ankle, the imprint of the shackle still outlined on your skin.

He continued talking seeming unhappy with you lack of responses, "I have t-to go, I le-left you breakfast on the counter if you w-want it." He said as he shifted his weight.

You nodded slightly and turned your head to face him. He stared at your blank face for a few seconds his eyes looking like they were searching for a different response.

He gave up after a second his head dropping to look at the floor. "I'll be ba-back tonight," he muttered and walked up and out of the door.

The front door slammed and the house was filled by and uncomfortable silence. You pushed yourself up and leaned against the wall as blood rushed to your head. After a few seconds you slowly made your way up the stairs and into the kitchen.

You frowned to yourself as you picked up a small plate of slightly burnt toast. You walked over to the couch and set the plate on the coffee table. You glanced at the old box TV and pushed the 'ON' button. Static filled the screen for a few seconds before what looked like a soap opera turned on. You flipped through the limited channels stopping when a news channel filled the screen. You smiled to yourself and sat back down on the couch.

Toby's pov

I sighed deeply and pulled up my goggles. I opened the front door and looked around the dark room. I made my way around the dark house stopping when I saw the small light coming from the living room. I walked over and stood in the doorway. As my eyes adjusted to the light I could clearly see the small TV screen; the news channel. Shit.

Y/n's picture filled up the screen, it was of them holding up a peace sign up to the camera, a bright smile plastered on their face. A news reporter's face came on screen and started reading off of a piece of paper. "A missing persons report has the police of a small town shaken. The young Y/n L/n has disappeared." I frowned and leaned on the back of the couch, making my presence known.

Y/n jumped and looked over their shoulder visibly shaken. We locked eyes but it was clear we were both focusing on the background noise of the TV. "Authorities have started accepting volunteers for a search party to fin-." I scowled and walked over to the small TV and pushed the Button to 'OFF'.

I sighed and turned around looking more closely at Y/n. They looked back at me tears brimming in their eyes. "Hey," I said awkwardly not really expecting a response at this point.

As expected they stayed silent and continued to look wide eyed at me. I gave up on getting them to talk and walked out of the room and into the kitchen. I looked through the small cabinets and decided on a can of Spaghettios.

After I was done cooking and plating them I slowly walked in, trying to will my arms to stop shaking. I successfully made it back to the living room, Y/n still sat in the same spot but had their face tucked into their arms.

I set both the plates down on the coffee table and sat down next to Y/n. "Sweetheart," I nudged them slightly, "I made f-food."

They uncovered their face and I caught a glance of their tear soaked face. My chest started to twist and ache uncomfortably, a strange feeling that was foreign to me.

Y/n's pov

You ate in silence, Toby sat with his back turned to you, shielding his face. After you were both done you sat in an awkward silence. You yawned and leaned on the arm of the couch closing your eyes. Toby seemed to recognize this and stood up offering you one of his hands. You hesitated but took it, letting him help you up. Your legs buckled from under you, not being used for the entirety of the day. Toby quickly scooped up your body and held it against his like I weighed nothing. You struggled for a few seconds, "Wait! I can walk." You squeaked pushing against his chest.

He chuckled and hugged you closer. "Not a c-chance in Hell." He said as he carried you up the stairs.
