Melanie and I hopped into my red 58' Fury, I thrusted the key into the ignition. One more time, I let her engine hum to life. I patted the car's dashboard.

"What's our plan, honey?" She asked.

I pulled out an envelope, packed close to it's limit with cash out of the cigar box.

"Just us, the road ahead, and whatever the future brings for us." I proudly proclaimed.

"How much is in there?" She curiously asked as I pulled out of the driveway.

"Whatever was left in my dad's credit card." I said. "So.. quite a lot."

"Oh! About money... There's still a ton in my hotel room." Melanie smirked.

"Right then." I replied. "We'll need every dollar we can scrounge up for this thing."

As we drove to the hotel, she turned on the radio. Evening tunes from the 80s began to play. I started bobbing my head a little to the retro synthesized beeps and bops.

"You like these?" She asked. I nodded, smiling softly.

"As long as I can remember, what about you?" I questioned in turn. "What's your favourite era?"

"Early 2000's." She responded back.

"My dad loved to listen his favourite songs on the radio. So I guess it's a big reason why I prefer songs from the, y'know earlier decades." I explained.

"That's completely fine with me, you do you." She placed her hand on my shoulder, patting it with assurance.

Meanwhile, we drove past Town Hall. Now brazen with red and blue lights, the two police cars we heard earlier were already in the lot. Meaning we still have some critical time in order to get our stuff straight and leave this forsaken place.

As we arrived to the hotel, I left the car running. We got out and headed toward the automatic doors leading into the obviously cheap yet admirable establishment. The front desk was manned by a young woman, who was busy reading a magazine she got from the nearby shelves.

"Excuse me, miss?" Melanie asked. The employee looked up at her.

"Ah, Miss Kipper. One more week extension?" She asked, rolling up the magazine and placing it under her arm. I looked around, the hotel's lobby was quite small. Pretty empty, save for a lounge with two armchairs and a flat screen TV displaying a fireplace.

"Actually, I'm checking out." She said.

"Golly, color me surprised then. You can pack up your stuff. right now. You'll have to pay about eleven thousand four hundred fifty seven dollars" She said. Melanie nodded as she ushered me to follow her, we took the stairs to the second floor. Upon our arrival we quickly made out way to Room 2-47. When we entered, it was a tidy, well-kept space. With a bag sitting against the bed, a brown envelope of money sitting on the desk, and numerous pictures of me walking outside either pinned or duct-taped to the walls. She grabbed the envelope and we ran back downstairs, exiting out the back door to get to the car.

I had made sure to park my car where it wouldn't be seen leaving by the worker. I backed out ot he parking lot, and floored it once we were far enough from the hotel. A few minutes later, we were on the road out of town.

"Finished counting?" I asked. Melanie stuffed my money into her envelope, sealing it with a lick.

"Two hundred and sixteen thousand five hundred dollars." She stuffed it in her dress corset. I had long removed my tie and placed it in my pocket.

"Now that's what-"

I began. Until suddenly, I felt the car begin to jolt. The engine began to cough, it was thirsty by the guess of it. It was only than I realized that I had forgotten to take the car to the gas station yesterday. Effectively cutting off our only way out of Little Valley.

"Oh nooooooo..." I groaned and smacked the steering wheel, accidentally honking the horn in the process as I pulled over.

My eyes traced directly to the gas meter.

"(Y/N), I love you and all but... Don't tell me you forgot to gas this car up." Melanie also worriedly . Though it was too obvious to deny. Because of our time crunch, there's no way we'd be able to either call for a tow truck or push this thing all the way back to Little Valley.

The large 'E' was flashing red, and the gauge was visibly hitting the lowest part of the meter. Indicating that we were practically running on mere fumes.

"Shit." I panicked a little. "This is bad..."

"Don't worry, (Y/N). There's probably gonna be a way out of this." She assured me. However I was really having my doubts.

"How? There's no other way we're getting out of this place without..." I paused as I thought a little on a viable alternative solution.

"What time is it?" I asked Melanie. She took out her phone to check the time.

"Eleven nine, why?" She asked curiously.

"Perfect..." I smiled. Rubbing my hands together.

I set my sights on the train station, which was quite far. But the walk there would take approximately forty minutes.

"We're taking the midnight train out of here, Melanie." I said, exiting the car followed closely by her.

"Really? That's too bad, I was beginning to like this car to be honest with you." She responded, walking up beside me.

"That makes the two of us... I remember when I'd sit in the garage watching Dad work on this thing, it was amazing watching it come together. He even taught me how to fasten these old tires, this would be what we used to drive around town and go on vacations. He always said it would be mine someday." I reminisced. "I'm gonna miss this thing."

I patted the red-colored hull.

"Stay golden, old pal. Goodbye." I smiled and sighed. In the end it was just a car, but it's real worth was the memories it gave me of my dad that I could remember by and smile as a matured man.

"Come on, (Y/N)!" Melanie was already headed to the train station. I gave one last look to the Plymouth Fury before I began following Melanie.

- Timeskip -

The twelve-o-clock train arrived at the station on schedule. The night shift employees began to haul the cargo out of the box cars. They were mostly tired and probably wanting to head back home as soon as possible. In fact, they were so tired that they didn't even bother close the doors of the train's empty cargo containers. Also, they were too tuckered out that they didn't notice two teens in prom garb waiting in the nearby bushes to secretly board the train.

"I've never boarded a train illegally before." Melanie whispered beside me.

"Well, we're both about to find out how that'll turn out." I replied quietly.

The workers quickly emptied the respective box cars, loading the goods onto trucks that would take them all the way back to the town. We just had to wait for our turn.

Meanwhile, a worker who had peered through the gap in between the cars walked through and began to approach our position. Much to our dismay.

"We've got to hide." Melanie quietly urged.

I ducked down to hide, but Melanie had her gown hindering her. So the worker spotted her easily.

"The hell are you doing here, little girl?" He asked as he walked up to her.

She stared at me and nodded her head subtly.

"I-I'm sorry mister. I was just trying to find my boyfriend, he drove us out here. And he j-just disappeared. I'm scared that he just left me out here." She began to shed a tear. Rubbing her arm along with looking as innocent as possible, which wasn't too hard for her. Her pretty face made it that much easier.

The older man thought about it for a moment, before he responded.

"Well ain't that just cruel of him. Why don't you join me missy. We could give you a lil' ride back to town. And, we could have a nice talk... 'bout your boyfriend. We could report him to the police and all." He suggested.

Melanie had stalled him enough that I was able to unfasten my tie, I leapt out of the dense bush I was hiding in and wrapped it around his neck. Melanie pulled out a needle she had stuck in her tied hair bun and used it to stab him in the eye. We then looked around for any witnesses before we made a run for the nearest box car. A majority of the workers were focused on loading the crated goods onto the trucks, meaning we were able to make it onto the train mostly undetected.

"Where's Phillip?" I could hear one of the workers call.

"He's probably off pissing in the forest somewhere, tell the guy up front that it's all good to go. He can leave the station now." Another older voice ordered. "We'll find that dumb nonce later."

"Nonce means pedo, you know." The first voice informed.

"It does?... Huh." The second voice replied, with a slight chuckle. "Never mind that, just get there and tell the conductor that it's all good to go."

I could hear his footsteps as he made his way to the engine to inform the driver that he was good to go. We weren't out of the woods just yet, as we still had to stay quiet.

Approximately two minutes later, I heard the train's whistle sound out loud. The floor beneath us jolted as the train began to depart the station. I looked to Melanie, she smiled up at me and gave me a thumbs up.

This time, we were leaving the town for good. Although we left a lot of our things behind, we had each other. Which was all that mattered, that and the money we were able to steal.

Meanwhile, the train began to quickly accelerate as we heard an exclaiming voice. Drowning out quickly by the clattering of the wheels against the tracks.

"Holy shit is that Phil?!" Shouted what we could recognize as the second, younger voice.

It didn't matter in the end, because the train was already moving further and further from the station which every second that passed. soon enough, we were as far away from Little Valley as could be.

Tired and exhausted from the long night, we both sat down beside each other near the open door of the empty boxcar. Nothing but the whistle of the wind and the sound of the train passing over the tracks.

"We did it." Melanie finally broke the silence with a little whisper. "I can't believe it."

"Yeah." I tiredly replied. Wrapping my arm around her, we cuddled close together in the warm wind of the summer night. Against all odds we went against practically the town and got out alive, together we were unstoppable. As well as completely drained, after almost a full night of running around like wild dogs. We waited for a few minutes, by then the adrenaline had begun to run low as we were no longer in any potential danger, for now. We just needed a good rest... but I felt the need to ask her one last question.

"Melanie?" I asked.

"Hmm?" She looked at me, awaiting whatever it was I was gonna say.

"What do you like the most about me?" I had been too afraid to ask her that earlier in our relationship. Keep in mind that it was still when I still had no idea of her true nature. But now, I knew that we could now openly trust each other. Considering we were all that we had, I kinda liked that. Two people, facing down the world and what obstacles it had to offer for us.

"I like how you have sort of this... aura of mystery surrounding you. It takes someone really determined to get to know you. Once they do, it's as if they're blessed by God himself. You're also very protective of who you love." She held my hand. "Because you're afraid of loosing me like you lost your parents."

I smiled. Bringing her close to me. She was right, every last word about me.

"Tell me what you love about me." She said in a pseudo-childish voice, which made me chuckle a little. It sounded so tired, but was still pretty adorable.

I thought about it a little. digging deep into the crevices of my mind to try and come up with the truth. As it was the most I could give my newfound partner.

"I love how you're determined to get what you want... You're willing to sacrifice what you already have to get it. Because, let's both be honest... People who won't kill for love, are those who are too spineless to fight for what they believe in. And I believe truthfully in passion. For that, my heart's open for you." I replied.

"I'll always be happy when I'm with you, (Y/N)." She said, one last time, kissing my cheek before her head lay on my shoulder as she slowly fell asleep. I could feel myself on the border of blacking out.

I smiled to myself, caressing her hair as I stared at the sky, the rainclouds which had previously been blotting the night sky had begun to clear. The Moon could be seen staring down at us. A silent witness to the whole ordeal we had just experienced. It stayed with us as the trees, tall grass, and other elements of nature passed by.

As I felt my eyes begin to close, we were headed over a lake. The Moon's reflection cast a beautiful serene feeling of a accomplishment within me. Away from civilization, I saw the stars, high above blanketing the night sky in a galaxy of wonders to intake.

The Moon seemed as if it was congratulating us with this extravagant show, I sighed as I closed my eyes. Silently awaiting whatever came next for the both of us.

'Goodnight, Moon. Keep a good watch over Melanie and I, okay?' I thought, before I too fell into deep sleep.
