As we made our way to the center of the dance floor, Melanie turned to me once more.

"You know how to dance?" She asked me with a smile.

"You better hope the Twist comes on." I replied.

"That dance from the third Spiderman movie?" She asked with a slight giggle.

"Even then I only did it when I was a kid, so I dunno if I'm even cut out for dancing." I embarrassingly admitted.

"It's fine, we can just do the whole swaying thing." She said with a shrug. Even though I kind of hated it It was the best we could do, even if it was sort of awkward at least to me.

"Thank God for whomever invented that. Otherwise this whole place would be filled with people just standing around." I smirked. Melanie giggled in response.

"You always know what to say." She smiled.

"Thanks." I bashfully grinned.

Meanwhile, the DJ tuned on his microphone.

"This is for all you lovers here tonight, the 'slow' type of song. Perhaps your grandparents listened to it, but nevertheless it's a timeless classic, to me at least. Give it up for the King of Rock himself."

Slowly, our hands interlocked as we began to 'dance' together.

With quite an old song filling the atmosphere. We stared into each other's eyes with a yearning, she gently smiled at me. Like two swans alone in a lake, it was almost like we were alone in an empty ballroom.

The feeling of emotional overload with a hint of bliss dominated the situation. I tried my best to keep pace with her steps, because inexperience caused me to either take the wrong steps or be caught in an awkward point where we almost lost our grip on each other.

But, thankfully I got used to it.

There we were, as happy as two young souls could be.

However, I still knew that I was here for another reason. I kept an eye out for those two, while still trying to dance accordingly to the music. Melanie rested her head on my shoulder, which allowed me to look around more. Until I found Tom, he was sitting in a chair out of many which were provided to the unlucky who weren't able to secure a partner for the event. He was looking around the vast room, probably trying to find someone to ask to the dance, at the dance itself. How will I do this?...

"You okay, (Y/N)? You stopped dancing." She asked.

"I just realized... that..." I began, but stumbled and stuttered.

"What is it?" Once again. Melanie asked. I began to sweat a little, what do I tell her!? How do I convey to her what I have to do without actually revealing it? Now's not the time for a social breakdown! Find something to say!

Then, I saw Tom get up and head for the exit. It's far too early to leave, semi's a once in a year thing so he's not leaving now.

He's likely going to the-

"Bathroom." I blurted out suddenly.

"You gotta go?" Mel laughed a little. "Don't tell me that you didn't do the business before you left?"

"Yeah... I forgot." I said, shrugging. "I'll be back very soon though, don't leave."

"I'm not going anywhere." She called to me as she also made her way off of the dance floor, making some room for the other dancers.

I made my way past a few students and turned to a nearby dancer.

"Do you know where the restroom is?" I asked him.

"How should I know? I haven't went there yet?" He responded, immediately going back to dancing.

I sighed, deciding to try and find it myself. Leaving the room, I turned left and made my way through a few corridors. My high hopes were soon dashed as it eventually led to a dead end. The door which was there led into the Janitor's closet, which was... occupied...

Once I was out of that debacle, and the two in there were back at it on each other. I made my way quickly right, the opposite direction. All the way back down to the other side of the hallway, passing the entrance to the ballroom. Faintly hearing rock music as I rapidly walked, until I finally came across the bathroom.

I pushed the door open and went inside, Tom was washing his hands in the sink. I quietly approached him, making my footsteps as light as possible. All the while pulling off my tie and gripping it tightly...

Thankfully there were stalls in there, I left him sitting in an upright position on the toilet. Which means anyone going in there after us will hopefully assume that he got drunk and is sleeping... or something, I never really thought that one out.

As I returned to the party, I suddenly rounded the corner and bumped into Maria.

"Oh. Hey again, (Y/N). How you doing?" I gotta come up of something quick.

"Nothing, how are you?" ...What kind of response was that?! Think of something else. "I mean, it's fine. This dance... I like the atmosphere."

"You do? Me too, actually. Think about it. A dimly lit room with a masquerade spin to it, and the rain's actually beginning to clear. So now, we can see the night sky. And, well it's pretty beautiful." She gave her input,

"I'd like to see it for myself now. Judging from how you described it." I smirked a little.

"I hope you find it as gorgeous as I said it was." Maria said, before heading off down the hallway. Probably in search of the Woman's Room.

I continued to make my way back to the ballroom, tightening my tie as I re-entered it.

Now the moon was shining into the room, via the atrium. The clouds had cleared and the rain stopped, giving way for the stars above. I smiled to myself.

"Tonight is just... perfect." I sighed happily, slightly rubbing my wrist as I gritted my teeth. Tom resisted a lot in that previous debacle, he was able to scratch me good.

Suddenly, I realized my big mistake.

Parts of my skin are now in his dead body's nails...

I tried to go back towards the washroom. But I was blocked my Melanie.

"Where were you?" She asked, bewilderingly.

"Melanie, I-I was..." I began.

"And why did I see you talking to Maria Thurgen, back there?... Yeah I know her, we talked from time to time." She sounded hurt, betrayed. I scrambled for a response.

"I'm really sorry, I wasn't doing what you probably think I was doing. I wouldn't trade you for any girl here, I promise..." I desperately pleaded, only to be met with her smirking face. She was close to laughter.

"I'm just playing with you, silly." She giggled. "She was probably asking for restroom directions. But, next time don't take so long. Capiche?"

"I'll definitely keep that in mind." I said, grateful that she wasn't too mad. But, I knew that I wasn't gonna be sticking around anytime soon. Even if I killed Mark, there's nothing that would change. I could try and go back to take out the residue out from under his nails...

"So, are we gonna continue dancing or what?" Melanie asked curiously. I only had a few hours until the body is discovered, the Janitors will start clearing this place out as soon as we all leave the party. Eventually, Tom will still be found. With my DNA as a link...

"I have to go..." I said, aloud. I was nervous, my composure was breaking down. I didn't give it a single thought, but it was out now.

"What? Why?" She was very confused. "Are you that nervous around me?"

"I-I..." I began. Frustrated with the circumstances and with myself, I just brushed off all that was wrong with the world for just one singular moment of true passion. I leaned in, and my lips met with hers...

All that tension fell apart for just a few seconds.

Melanie exclaimed with surprise, before I felt her hand wrap around the back of my head. She returned it in favour, we kissed on the dance floor that night. Beautiful and perfect would be the words I chose for it, because it was just that.

As we separated, she just looked into my eyes and lovingly smiled. Hurting me more, that I wouldn't have this type of moment anymore. Nevertheless, for once in my life... I felt complete.

I would have been, if I didn't suddenly see someone fall face-first onto the floor out of the corner of my eye...

People turned to look, along with Melanie and I. They were convulsing violently...
