Dragon Rising

(Y/n): I didn't even get new threads... eh... And now I have to wear this thing?

Shin'ichi: I know, though it's not often an event like this occurs. And as you are the captain of my family, you are needed by my side.

You let out a sigh as your tugged at the collar of the newly acquired black suit you wore. Kentaro was in the middle of helping you pick out some clothes when you received an urgent call from your patriarch, requiring your presence as well as a black suit. Chairman Sera of the Tojo clan was dead. It was no surprise a funeral would be held for the man though what was curious to you and the patriarch was why you were invited. Being a small family, you held no power and could barely hold on to your building let alone your block of the city. So the mysterious invite was enough to push for Murakami and yourself as his captain to attend the event out of respect. Though you were not fools to know that somebody wanted you there either as a message or to show compliance to whoever is deemed the new order.

(Y/n): I understand the severity of the situation Murakami sir, but... we aren't even that integral to the Tojo clan. Why were we invited?

Your patriarch remained silent, his funeral kimono, being dusted off with one of his hands as the other accepted the mourning badge required to enter the building. You received one as well though you were still confused by the situation. As you signed in, you lifted yourself back to a standing position to see another car had arrived. A lot of people were gathering for this event. Shrugging it off, You and Murakami passed through the gathered crowd and entered the building, standing to the side. To others, it seemed like you were being secretive, though it was more than a small yakuza family among giants would do its best to stay out of the spotlight.

Shin'ichi: The passing of Chairman Sera has created a power struggle in the Tojo. I'm guessing whoever invited us here is trying to consolidate power to look like the best candidate. Hmmm...

(Y/n): I don't like all of the politics of the clan. The clans never really work together but every time a chairman passes it seems like all-out civil war breaks out.

Shin'ichi: This is why the Murakami stays off to the side and neutral. Even a small clan like ours could turn the tide and there is nothing worse than fighting for someone and learning you are on the wrong side.

(Y/n): Sounds like quite the story Murakami sir.

Shin'ichi: We might be in the midst of a power struggle as we speak. A lot of security for a simple funeral correct?

You nodded your head, running a hand through your hair. There were quite a few dressed up yakuza wandering around, though you couldn't tell who belonged to who or if they were general security for the Tojo. Gah, you hated all this Tojo political stuff. You just wanted to get back so you could pick up a more colorful suit and then get food with your pals.

Shin'ichi: The funeral should start soon. We will pay our respects and as long as no major moves are committed we should be fine to-

BANG

A loud sound managed to fill your ears despite the conversing people around you. You could see that a few others were curious as to the noise, the suited security moving upstairs quickly in response as you carefully placed your hand on Murakami's shoulder.

(Y/n): We need to get out of here.

Shin'ichi: You heard it too, huh? We should go but to leave now would lower our standing in the Tojo even further. We need to hold our ground.

(Y/n): We're a speck of dust to these massive families Murakami sir, as your... as your captain I need to ensure your safety above all else.

Shin'ichi looked at you thoughtfully as the security really got into gear, more men rushing up the stairs as you stood in front of your patriarch, ready to leap into action once he responded. Shin'ichi observed you carefully, smiling to himself as you protected him. He knew you were the right choice for captain. you were loyal and competent, and you would make for a good patriarch yourself someday. but for now, you were right.

Shin'ichi: Call Kentaro, have him bring the car here. I'll send my regards to the mysterious inviter later and tell them I was feeling ill. I'm not risking my head for a mystery.

You nodded your head pulling out your phone. You tapped away on it before pressing it to your ear.

Kentaro: Hey Captain. The funeral go well-

(Y/n): Bring the car around now. Something is happening here and Murakami sir might be in danger.

Kentaro: A-Ah of course! B-Be there in a second!

Kentaro announced before the line went dead. You closed the phone and nodded to Murakami, the patriarch leading you to the door.

???: Murakami sir?

You both froze and turned to another suited security guard.

???: The disturbance upstairs will be calmed momentarily. It is perfectly safe here. You do not need to le-

Murakami cut the man off with a horrible coughing fit, his hand stretching out. You took a quick step to his side, letting his hand rest on your shoulder as he slowly lifted himself.

Shin'ichi: I'm terribly sorry young man... my health seems to be failing me. I wouldn't wish to ruin the funeral with my incessant hacking. Please let the lieutenants and the family of Chairman Sera know we deeply wish them the best and our support at this time.

Murakami tugged on your shoulder before leading you out of the venue.

(Y/n): Murakami sir a-

Shin'ichi: Don't say I was never a good actor.

The older man chuckled softly as the two of you descended down the steps toward the front to get to your car. the crowd that was inside had seemingly migrated out in here panic and the gate to the complex was firmly shut. Was there an intruder here? Who would want to crash a funeral especially for a Chairman of the Tojo clan? You wouldn't have to wait long as the door to the front of the building was kicked open. You heard a yell as someone was thrown forth from the door, possibly being kicked through it as you turned to shield Murakami. In the process, you would come face to face with a legend. A legend that glared down at your like a caged dragon ready to claw its way through the oni blocking its path.
