The river Ganga flowed at the foot of the Kailasa mountain, and the river looked beautiful.
Nalakubera and Manigriva were sporting with their women in the waters of the Ganga.
There was a drink by the name of Varuni, and it was mildly intoxicating. Nalakubera and Manigriva had taken plenty of Varuni when they were in the waters of the River Ganga.
It was at this time that Narada came near the banks of the river Ganga.
Narada was the Mind-Born son of Brahma. Narada was a sage and an ascetic, and he was also a staunch devotee of Vishnu. Narada was also a messenger and travelled to all the realms.
Narada heard the ruckus the two sons of Kubera had created at the river Ganga and came to investigate.
On seeing Narada, the women with Nalakubera and Manigriva immediately went away from the waters and covered themselves properly. They came forward and then bowed to Sage Narada.
However, the sons of Kubera were too drunk to pay attention to anything.
They forgot to honour the sage. In fact, they did not even realize that they were behaving indecently before a very learned man.
"You are arrogant because of your wealth. You have lost control of yourself and even lost basic decorum. For this, I curse you. I curse that you will be born as a couple of trees on earth." Narada thundered at the two men.
The two men were shocked on hearing the words of the sage.
But Narada was a kind man, and he also gave a way out for the two men.
