(41) A REASON FOR HERSELF
Subhadra was bewildered after listening about her marriage. She didn't expect that. Even like other girls of her age she never had imagined anything about her marriage, most importantly about her life partner. The arms of her brothers was her world, and she was the happiest in that world.
She had to go away from her family, especially from her brothers, that too for a relationship which was unknown! This thought made her anxiety reach at the peak. She felt mentally unwell just thinking that she had to share her space, her heart, and herself with a stranger. Her each nerve was screaming a loud no at this.
Evening passed away. But she couldn't join Arjun for veneration. He offered only prayer at that evening, prayer wishing wellbeing of his love as he was having strong feelings of her silent sorrow.
"What! You said this much only!" Satyabhama exclaimed over Kanha angrily when she came to know about the discussion.
"Unbelievable!" Rukmini whispered being completely lost.
"Why didn't you deny to this proposal, Arya?" Kalindi asked in disbelief.
"It's such a serious matter. Was it necessary to play word game at that time too?" Jambavanti was too upset over Kanha which was too rarest unlike Rukmini.
"I am the youngest. What importance my deny could have made when pitashri's unwillingness didn't affect the proposal?" Kanha explained the situation in short.
"Duryodhan isn't a descent guy. Won't it be enough to deny this proposal?" Mitravinda asked hoping no possible fact could be there to argue at her question.
"Duryodhan must have many excuses to counter this fact. It won't work here," Kanha's word brought pin drop silence.
"I think we should visit Ladli. The way has to be made out by her only," Nagnajiti voiced out the suggestion earning nodes from everyone.
Subhadra was sitting like a statue with the harsh thoughts striking among themselves inside her. Her chamber was lightened, but her eyes were reluctant towards the glow.
"Gudiya!" The voice gained her attention in no time.
Whenever that voice had called her she rushed towards that. That voice was the vividness of her life, of her soul. That voice was of her partner in crime, share holder of thoughts, guide of goodness, Kanha. But that time she couldn't reciprocate his calling as her legs were scared if they proceeded then they might be found to stand at a different path where the lotus feet won't be their companion.
"Calm down, Gudiya. Nothing will happen like you are thinking," Kanha rushed to her knowing her turmoil, and hugged her tightly to soothe her.
"Why all these, Bhratashri? Is marriage really necessary? Can't there be a life for a girl in society without being married?" She leaned her head on his shoulder like a baby making him caress her hairs.
"Marriage is a social necessity, Ladli. For denying marriage you should have valid reason," Lakshmana told making Subhadra broke the hug.
"I am denying. Can't it be a valid reason? Society too has to respect private space of individuals," Her boldness wasn't overpowered by the situation. It made everyone to praise her silently.
"You are right. But at least you can share your reason with us, can't you?" Bhadra asked softly.
"I am not feeling well about this proposal. I am feeling like it will separate me from the path I share with my brothers. It's tormenting me like hell. Moreover I am feeling uncomfortable with this proposal, not as a person, but as a girl," Her last statement made sisters exchange smiles as that was indicating Arjun's love had a firm position in her heart.
"You have to state the reason of this uncomfortable feeling," Satyabhama told making Subhadra astonished.
"Bhabhi, you are saying this! Won't my discomfort be enough for you all to reject this proposal?" Subhadra asked in utter disbelief.
"Not for us, but you have to find the reason for yourself," Jambavanti came forward to get a puzzled look from Subhadra.
"We need to be sure about our hearts when we are going to take a stand for ourselves, or else we won't be succeeded," Rukmini revealed the hidden meaning of Satya's words.
"They are saying right, Gudiya. Find your reason. We are there to support you, I promise," Kanha assured caressing her hairs.
Arjun was waiting for Subhadra, just to see her once, and to confirm about her wellbeing. He was feeling restless about her. Some foot steps heard amidst of his wildly pacing heartbeats.
"Madhav!" Arjun uttered in relaxation.
"Madhav, is everything fine? Subhi didn't come for evening veneration. She never does like this. Is she fine?" He voiced out all his worries only to be worried more by Kanha's silence.
"Madhav, please say something. Your silence is encroaching my serenity," He tried to control his words from trembling.
Kanha explained the matter in detail draining out all colours of Arjun's face.
"Madhav, it's a trap, nothing else. Duryodhan will use her as a pawn to make you and dau bound. Don't let this happen with her," Arjun requested in a soft yet chocked tone.
"We have urged Subhadra to find her reason to oppose this marriage. It's our last hope," Kanha placed his hand on Arjun's shoulder.
"Last hope! Excluding all other options, and including all the optimism," Arjun uttered thoughtfully.
"Wish for her, for your love, Parth!" Kanha patted on Arjun's shoulder to recognise him and the present time.
"Sometimes praying for two outcomes divide the possibilities of getting even one the fullest. So, not for my love I will pray for the best of her," Kanha smiled heartily at Arjun's selflessness wishing the best for the lovers.
