"How can she tell us to paint how we see life?" Liza groaned slamming her face in her palms. Her blond curls fell towards her face. Frustrated, she pushed them back.
"She just wants us to be creative" Mi Jin said gathering her stuffs into her bag.
"Creative? I don't know how I see life" Liza stood up. Liza is another colleague of mine who I got closer to as time passed by.
"When you think, the inspiration will come" I said getting up.
"When is the assignment due to be submitted?" she asked as we walked towards the door.
"Her next class" Mi Jin answered as she threw her bag over her shoulder.
"Bye" I said waving at Simran, the Indian girl and Francis, an American.
"Bye" they replied waving at us.
"See you guys tomorrow" Mi Jin screamed waving at everyone.
They answered some of them hooting. I smiled. Everyone loves Mi Jin except Valerie. Mi Jin was right. Valerie is snob. Someone I just could not like when I set my eyes on her. She is so annoying and so full of herself. The first day I came here, she had acted like she owned the place and everyone was under her control, I threw her in her place immediately. I no get time for rubbish. Valerie walked past me bumping her shoulder against mine. I ignored her because she was a fool.
The hallways of the school were filled with students talking, laughing and shouting. There were groups or cliques in every corner you walk through.
"I see life as a colourful beautiful place to be" Mi Jin said climbing down the staircase.
"Of course Mi Jin, you will see life as a colourful place because you are a bright and vibrant person" I said. "Life is not full of colours" I said.
"Well, I have nothing in my head but I will before the due date" Liza shrugged.
When we got to the parking lot and needed to part ways, I hugged both ladies before we separated. I crossed over to the parking lot. The winter cold howled through the parking lot. I could feel the air heavy. As I breathe in the cold gust of air, my lungs were filled with sharp cold. I pulled the woven shawl over my neck to my face burying my jaw into it to keep my face warm. The grey cloud that looked down at the earth showed its seamless murkiness. The white BMW I brought to school beeped when I unlocked it. My blocks heels clicked the concreted floor as I matched towards the car. I had changed my car because I felt like it. The valet had suggested the BMW since it belonged to my husband.
As I opened the door to enter, I noticed the front tyre had lessened. I stiffened annoyance rising in me. Why now? I had wanted to go home to crash in bed and sleep after a tiring day. I did not expect a flat tyre. I kicked the tyre venting my growing anger on it. I grunted knowing it won't feel any pain. My heart grew heavy, rage surging through my veins. I puffed out leaning against the car.
"Bhabi" I heard Aaban's voice. My eye became wide. I shot my head up to see him standing few feet away from me with a foolish grin on his face. "What a surprise?" he stridden towards me. I shuffled on my feet, clearing my throat and threw my head high to put on a cold look.
"What can I do for you?" I asked my voice icy. He grinned looking down at the flat tyre.
"Got a flat tyre I see" he hummed looking back at me. There was a glint in his eyes that made him someone I needed to stay away from. That glint had always been there since that morning at the dining table.
His presence just made my blood hotter each second. I knew my eyes won't hide what I felt for him which was just hatred and anger but he still smiled. Hissing, I walked past him. A hand grabbing my arm made me jerk around. The corner of Aaban's lip moved up.
"Don't touch me!" I yanked my arm away from his grip. Instead he moved closer, his physique over powering mine.
"I can't allow a damsel in distress walk away like that" he took another step closer. I gripped my coat tight, my jaw hardening. His voice was rough and filled with what I knew he thought was sexy instead he sounded like a dying duck in my ears. "Why don't we go home together" he raised a hand to touched the side of my face but I slapped his hand away.
"Don't step closer Aaban" I warned.
"Sorry" he raised his hands up moving back. I let my breath out, gave him a hard look before walking away.
I stopped the first taxi I saw and hopped in. The car can wait. When I tell the valet, Chris or the head butler about the car, someone will come and pick it up. I gave out the paper I had written the home address on to the driver. From the window of the taxi, I saw Aaban standing where I just left, his hands in his pockets. He waved at me blowing a kiss. I grimaced loathing him more. He was just shameless like his mother and sister.
While pulling off my coat to hang on the rack half-full with jackets and coats of different sizes in the foyer, I kicked off my heels. The foyer was wide. I noticed the gleaming gold marble floor beneath my feet. Straight ahead of me was an entrance leading to the large living room that was exquisite. To my left, I looked up to the staircase leading up to the second floor with ornate mahogany rails that was carved and polished to make it shine. The air scented of fresh lilies and gerbera daisies. Antique flower vases stood on each corner of the foyer with flowers in them. From the living room, the voices of children reciting Qur'an floated from the living room. It was evening and the time the kids have their Quranic classes with Suhaan Khalu.
As I picked my heels up, slow clunking of heels against the marble floor resounded from the staircase. I looked up throwing my shoulder bag over my shoulder. Shazia walked down the staircase dressed in a mini black halter neck dress that showed her legs, her chin in the air. Her hair had been curled and allowed to fall down her slim back. She walked down gracefully like a queen, a silver clutch purse in one of her hands. The dress sculpted her figure, hugging her curves and showing them off.
A maid that came from the living room stopped when she saw Shazia. I knew the maid as Juliet. Juliet's eyes darted around in fear. Carefully, Shazia stepped down the last staircase.
"Ma'am" Juliet called her voice tiny.
Shazia threw the timid girl a disdainful gaze, her face filled with pride. She stopped in front of the mirror to admire herself. Truly, Shazia was pretty lady except for her attitude which had made most people see her bad side than her good. The hatred that had masked our faces had refused to allow us notice how beautiful she was.
"Those clothes I have on the bed in my room" she began turning a bit to her side to see the opened back of her dress. She had worn no bra. I think it is one of those dresses with built in bra "I want them ironed and I also want my room clean before I arrive" she said authoritatively as if she was the queen or madam of the house.
"Yes, ma'am" Juliet said and walked away timidly.
Shazia glanced at me, eyed me up and down as if I was some piece of rag before stepping towards the oak doors.
"I see you are off for an outing" I said walking up to her. The marble floor was cold under my feet.
"Sure Noorie" she answered walking towards me, swinging her hips. "I have a date" her painted lips tugged into a smile. "With a man I just met. He is a billionaire you know?" she said, egotism laced her voice.
"Did you seduce this billionaire also?" I asked.
"I did not need to. He already lust for me when he saw me. Men always drool at my feet" she said with sureness in her tiny voice.
"Good" I stepped closer until I looked at her eye to eye, my eyes stony. "I heard you do not stick to a man. You jump from one to another as long as the new man is richer than the former. I will advise you to hold onto this billionaire Shazia" I folded my hands over my chest. Her plucked eyebrows knitted together and her smoky eyes narrowed.
"Why?" she asked confused.
"Because it will favour you" My lips twitched into a wicked smile. "I am sure you understand" I patted her bare shoulder gently before walking past her.
I had not bother to look back to see Shazia's face when I climbed the flight of wide steps.
