The Heart in the Box: Kyojuro Rengoku × Reader part 5

It was hard for you to recover from saving Rengoku. You hadn't eaten in months, and you could only drink liquids until your body was strong enough again. Your demon powers returned, but you were still weak and frail. But at least Rengoku was alive even though you had to suffer the consequences of your actions.

You took a hot bath and cleaned yourself off after months of not showering. Rengoku gave you some of his clothes to wear since needed some desperately. Your old clothes were stained with your blood and animal blood, so there was no way you were getting it all out. Your muscles were stiff, and every time you moved, they popped and cracked, making you want to regain the weight that you had lost. Rengoku took good care of your hair for you, so you didn't need to wash it, but you did it anyway. You came out once you cleaned up and brushed your teeth.

Rengoku had brought you some food but paused as he saw you brushing your hair. It was odd for him to see a person wearing his clothes and oddly enough he liked that you were wearing his clothes. He stared at you for a while without you realizing he was. He knocked on the wall after a while to let you know he was there

"Oh hey, is that for me?" You asked, feeling starving.

"Yes, it is. There is more food, set out with the other demon slayers, but I didn't know how long you would be," he said.

"Sorry, I was drenched in blood. It went right through my clothes. I don't think I will be able to get the blood out of my clothes any time soon," you said sadly.

"It's okay. we are getting you some, so you don't have to wear mine much longer," he said with a smile.

"I don't mind wearing your clothes, but I would like not to ruin them just in case I turn into a bloodthirsty demon again," you said as you took the bowl of soup and drank down like it was nothing.

You put the bowl down and looked at him shyly.

"Sorry," you apologized for not using your manners.

"It's okay, everyone understands. Thank you for saving my life," he said as you smiled.

"It was no trouble, I'm just glad I was able to. I know demons are getting stronger and increasing. The world needs more demon slayers out there," you said as thought about how many demons you fought just before meeting him.

"Here, let's get you introduced to the others and let you eat more," he said

"Food sounds great, honestly," you said as your stomach growled.

"Even after your feeding frenzy, you are still starving," he chuckled.

"Hey, not my fault!" You chuckled as you followed him to the other demon slayers.

"It was your fault. If you didn't heal me, you would have been fine," he pointed out.

"Well, next time, let me help you, and I won't have to heal you again," you chuckled.

"You got thrown if I do remember," he said as you laughed.

"Well, when it gets closer to daytime, my powers weaken. I was still willing to fight him till dawn. How does the wound look, though?" You asked as you got in front of him, and he showed you.

"Wow, not even a scar. That's good, but seriously, be careful. I don't think I can do that again," you said.

"I know you won't be able to, just because if my injuries were worse, you would have died. I used to feel your emotions, but after a while, I couldn't feel them anymore," he said as you were shocked.

"You could feel my emotions. That's awesome. Was it weird, though?" You asked.

"You don't remember any of our conversations?" He asked.

"You talked to me?" You asked as you smiled.

"Yes, you couldn't talk back, but I could feel your response. Angry emotions for no happy for yes. Your last month was incredibly rough on you. I was afraid I was going to have to write your parents that you passed away," he said.

"My parents wrote?" You asked, shocked.

"Our leader knew who you were by your strength. He said that you reminded him a lot of your mother," he said with a smile.

"You should meet my parents and decide whether or not I'm more like my father or my mother. My mom says I'm more like my father," you smiled as you followed him to the other demon slayers.

"Hey guys!" You said as you entered the room, and all the demon slayers that were there looked at you oddly.

Tokitos's face turned slightly red while you sat next to him. Rengoku sat next to you, and you grabbed a bowl.

"Feels like I haven't eaten in years," you said as you were trying to be polite, but you were starving.

"That's Genya, Sanemi, Inosuke, Tanjiro, his sister Nezuko, Zenitsu, and Mitsuri are with Obanai somewhere. Tengen is here with his three wives," he said as you looked at him shocked.

"Three?! That man is going to have so many children he's going to be able to start an army of his own," you said as you then started to scarf down some food.

You forgot that you weren't at home and started to eat a fish with bones and all. You looked around and noticed the sheer silence that loomed over them.

"Sorry, I can eat somewhere else if I make you all uncomfortable," you said after you swallowed.

Sanemi got up and cut his hand, making you look at him confused.

"Why the hell would you do that? I may be a demon, but I'm human, you know," you said as he glared at you, but you weren't mad about it.

"No, it's fine. You can stay here with us," Tanjiro said with a smile.

"Are you sure?" You asked.

"Yes, you can stay here. You are one of us," Rengoku said as you continued to eat.

"I need to give whoever cooked this some of my parents' recipes. My dad has tons of recipes," you said.

"Your dad is a demon, and he cooks human food?" Genya asked suspiciously.

"Well, yeah, you think my mom could cook before him?" You asked as you started laughing.

"My mom was the worst cook you could imagine she spent her whole life demon hunting she didn't learn any other skills. My dad used to be a chef before he became a demon," you explained.

"Why did your dad become a demon?" Tanjiro asked.

"Oh, um, his family was killed in front of him. They didn't realize leaving him half dead was a bad idea. But he became one to kill them. It didn't work out so well. That that nearly killed Rengoku was the one who did it. My father told me what he looked like and told me to avoid him at all costs, but how could I do that when Rengoku almost died fighting him? I would have four half-siblings if they lived, but I wouldn't have been born. I may never know them, but I think about them often. It's actually why o became a demon slayer against my parts, begging me to be a chef. I became both," you smiled as you continued to eat.

"That demon made your father a demon?" Rengoku asked.

"Yeah, I didn't realize it until I got closer to him. I didn't want him to do the same to you. Trust me, my father had to fight the urge to eat humans for a long time. Some days, it's still hard for him. When he has a tough day, he goes into a vault he made to keep him from hurting my mother or me. He had to do that often when I was a baby due to stress," you explained.

He looked at you sadly, not realizing your father wasn't like you at all. You could control it, but your father had a much harder time than you did.

"That reminds me I need to see my parents soon. My village will be worried about me if you all want you can meet my parents. They like visitors, but they will ask which one of you I'm dating," you laughed since you never brought any visitors home.

"You don't have a boyfriend?" Tanjiro asked.

"Me no, I can't. I don't know how long I'll live, plus I can't lie about what I am to regular people. What if my kid tries to eat someone? What if they go outside and catch on fire and then disappear? It's not a life I want for them, so I will spend my life being a demon slayer, and once I no longer can fight, I'll let the sun take me. Might as well. I never felt sunlight except for this once I burned myself pretty badly," you said

"My brother has been asking to see you once you were awake. He wanted to thank you properly," Rengoku added as you looked at him.

"You have a brother? I would love to meet him, but I might need to stay here for a while longer," you said as you put your food down.

"Why?" He asked as you passed out, and he caught you.

"Used up too much energy already," he smiled as he moved back from the table and carefully laid your head on his thigh.

"Shouldn't her demon powers be helping?" Tanjiro asked.

"She used her powers to keep us both alive for months. She also didn't sleep the whole time her body really needed to recover," he said the others looked at her.

"I still don't trust her," Sanemi said.

"She almost died saving Rengoku and passed the test twice. Leave her alone; if she turns, Rengoku will take care of her," Tengen said.

She won't turn. I would bet my life on it. In fact, I will if she turns, I'll end my own life," Rengoku said happily.

"What! Don't do that. If she does, then she saved you for nothing! Don't be stupid even though I know that's stupid," Inosuke said as he looked down at you.

"You are right. It is wasteful of a selfless act," he said as he ĺookèd down at you with a smile
