The Heart in the Box: Kyojuro Rengoku × reader part 3
Kyojuro stayed with you while they were quickly building a box for you so you would stay out of the sun's harsh touch. Everyone was shocked hearing there was a half-demon that saved his life, but they didn't know your intentions at all. Kyojuro could feel what you were feeling, or so it seemed. He was still getting used to having you connected to him, so he decided to see if he was truly connected to her.
"How do you feel about sumo wrestling?" He asked as Tanjiros looked at him oddly.
"Um, I don't know," Tanjiro answered.
"My apologies. I was talking to Y/n," he said as he felt a distasteful lingering.
"So I can feel your feelings. This will be interesting since you can't talk to me directly," he smiled.
Ever since he found out he could feel what you thought, he decided to talk to you the whole time and ask you random questions about everything he could think of to get to know you better.
"You snuck out! Why would you sneak out it doesn't seem like you. Was there a demon?" He asked as they were going to the main Demon Slayer base to test you.
He started feeling embarrassed, making him laugh at you. You got a bit upset, but it melted away as he laughed and knew he was alive because of you. You started to sense other demon slayers around you, but that didn't break your concentration it made you focus on Rengoku more as he started to feel how nervous you were.
"Nothing is going to happen to you or me. You will be fine," he said as you had doubts.
Everyone was there, and Rengoku put the box in the shade, and Kagaya Ubuyashiki came out with his two daughters.
"I heard a half-demon existed. I never hyjytf6ft7t6tÿis because she passed the test. She won't pass the test," Sanemi said coldly as Tanjiro looketd at him, shocked.
"She is keeping him alive. Isn't that good enough? Without her, he would be dead!" Tanjiro said.
"That might be true, Tanjiro, but demons are demons. We are supposed to die protecting humans. If she doesn't pass the test, we have to kill her regardless if she is keeping him alive or not," Mitsuri said sadly.
"I'll test her right now. It won't be hard," Tokito said as he went over to the box, and Rengoku opened it.
"She looks familiar," Tengen thought, seeing your face somewhere before.
Tokito cut his hand and put his hand in front of you, and you didn't budge at all. You were hesitant to see if you could heal him without breaking concentration, but it was a bad cut.
You made a strand of hair, carefully wrapping it around his hand and fixing his hand before making your hair go back to normal.
"She passes....," he said as Rengoku smiled but started coughing.
You broke concentration to help someone else, and you were trying to regain control. Rengoku fell to the ground as his injuries started to come back, and they also started to show on you. Your eyes opened, and your eyes were half transitioned to the demon and human eyes. Blood started to run down your eyes, ears, nose, and mouth as you were struggling to regain control.
"Well, that didn't last too long," Rengoku said as everyone was panicking.
"Y/n Rengoku is dying! You are losing control!" Tanjiro screamed as you were looking angry, then quickly went back to how you were before you lost your focus.
You quickly healed Rengoku again, and the red line was strong.
"If I die, you die? Why would you do this?" Rengoku asked as he felt a dull pain, but you were holding back yours.
Your hands were shaking until you managed to breathe through the intense pain and calm down.
"That's unfortunate," Gyomei said as tears ran down his face.
"Now I know why she seemed so familiar I knew her mother. I never knew she had a half-demon daughter. She retired after breaking her back," Kagaya Ubuyashiki said.
"Her?!" Some of the demon slayers said shocked.
"Who's the her?" Tanjiro asked.
"The ice Hashira Y/m/n," Kagaya said with a smile.
"Let's get you cleaned up and see if we can make it to my father's home," he said with a smile.
He cleaned you up the best he could without removing your clothes, then started writing goodbye letters. He had some just in case he died on missions, but now you were keeping him alive. He knew he would be angry, but there was nothing he could do. You chose to do this knowing it would maybe cost your life. He didn't know if you could fix him or if eventually you would die before healing him completely.
All he knew was that he was very grateful for the time he was getting, but he wished you didn't have to suffer the same fate as he was going to if you failed to heal him. He took the notes, and Tanjiro volunteered to go with him just in case he didn't make it home alive.
It wasn't a long walk to get there, and Rengoku's crow followed them. Rengoku made it home and saw his father drinking heavily, which was to be expected. Tanjiro was surprised and saw his younger brother Senjuro. As soon as Senjuro saw his brother, he dropped his broom in pure shock.
"Kyojuro!!!" He screamed as he ran over to him and hugged him tightly.
"How are you doing? It's good to see you!" Kyojuro said happily.
"I- I heard a demon was keeping you alive! I'm glad you got away!" He cried as you felt the love his younger brother had for him, which made you happy.
You didn't have any siblings because your parents couldn't have any more after you. You were a real miracle and good enough for them.
"She is keeping me alive right now, I brought her with me. But don't worry, she's very nice and likes food," Kyojuro smiled.
"What? But you kill demons," he said, confused.
"I do, but she's a good demon. If she didn't sacrifice her life for me, I would be dead, and there would be nothing anyone could do for me," he said.
"You let a demon kill you, and yet you took another demon's help to save your own life? What's wrong with you?! Demons are evil, and that's it! You kill them, no questions asked! Why become a demon slayer when you are using one to keep you alive? You should have just let that demon kill you!" Shinjuro yelled as you felt anger towards his father.
"She decided to do it herself, and if she was evil, she would have killed me instead of helping me. I lost the battle, yes, but I have a chance to win next time, or at least watch him get defeated," he smiled.
"Helping? What do you think she's doing? Fixing your dead body?! You died, and she is using you as a puppet for her six and twisted use. You were never a decent demon slayer, just like how I told you. You would never amount to anything, and I have proof right here that I was right! Why wouldn't you listen to me, you useless piece of crap!" He yelled as he threw his alcohol jug down on the ground, breaking it.
Before anyone had time to react, his father was going to try to kill you, but your blood was boiling. Your father never treated you badly even though he was a demon. He never said harsh words to you, and he always praised you even when you failed to do things multiple times. You kept trying, and if you couldn't do it his way, he would figure out a way that you could do what he was trying to teach it.
"Don't talk to your son like that! He was near death last night, and that is what you have to say to him; that you hate him and hate the idea of him being alive? I gain nothing by keeping him alive, but I do it because he is loved by many and has befriended me knowing fully well what I was. He I know I'm a monster and you can say that all you want but you have no right to talk to the man who saved over two hundred people in one night! I will gladly go to hell over and over again if it meant to keep him alive, and if I have to endure the pain of being burned alive by the sunlight, I will! He is your blood and made a life for himself despite your degrading and abusive nature! Be proud of him that he didn't turn into a monster, a wife beater, a murderer, a thief! I will sacrifice my life for this man, a man I barely spoke with because he has done good in this world and that is good enough for me to suffer as long as it takes until he is healed!" You growled, making your box shake in anger.
Your demonic presence and voice were strong and were making Tanjiro sick, feeling your strength he had never felt before. Your anger alone was enough for his father to feel ten feet away. Your demonic voice carried like rolling thunder, and Rengoku smiled a bit and touched the box.
"Easy Y/n, you already hurt yourself once trying to help someone else. It's okay, I know he doesn't mean it. Ever since we lost our mother, he lost his will to fight. He turned into this, but it's okay he will get better someday," he said as he touched the box reassuringly and softly so his father wouldn't hear him.
"Don't you dare tell me what to do you demonic bitch!" He yelled as your anger subsided a bit.
His father tried attacking him, but Rengoku got his brother out of the way, and he let him falter a bit. Then Rengoku let him hit him, making Tanjiro and his brother shocked.
"Feel better?" Kyojuro asked as his father moved his fist from his face to see he had broken his son's nose, but to his horror, it started healing.
"You monster!" His father growled as we went inside, knowing he couldn't win.
"Would you like to meet a nice demon?" Rengoku asked as his brother looked at the box.
"Is she in there?" He asked as Kyojuro nodded.
"Yes," he said as they brought you inside a dark room and then put down the box.
He carefully opened it and revealed you.
"She looks human," he said as he poked you, but you didn't move.
You could feel his curious eyes looking you over, and it made you happy.
"She likes you. She's happy," he said as Senjuro looked at him confused.
"You can feel her emotions? How?" He asked.
"See the red string?" He asked as he saw it was connected to his back.
"Yeah..." he said.
"That is a piece of her, and she's using it to keep me alive. I'm not sure how, but without it, I will die. I think that she is sharing her ability to heal with me, but she has to make sure it's slow. Otherwise, she might give me her demon blood by accident," he said.
"Oh. Thank you for keeping my brother alive. I hope you live after this," he said softly after Kyojuro handed him a note.
"Gove this to our father when I leave. Also, I will visit when I can, but she might not be able to keep me around forever," he said.
"Why?" He asked.
"Because everyone reaches their limit, but who knows, she might be able to heal me up," he said happily as his brother began to smile.
"I will give him the letter, don't worry about bit and please take care of yourself," he said.
"I will, and I will take care of her too. I promised to take full responsibility for her actions," he explained, making you feel more determined to keep him alive for his little brother.
