Prologue

A young boy is seen sitting at the bottom of some stairs, covering his eyes as he counts down to one. Once he does, he moves his hands away and stands up as he begins looking around. He walks into his living room before spotting some shoes sticking out from beneath one of the window curtains. He reaches forward to pull the curtains back, only for a broom with a hat to fall down in front of him.

The young boy looks at it in frustration before turning to walk away. He opened a closet door and looked inside before closing it, not finding who he was looking for.

Next, the young boy makes his way through the hall of his home and stops in front of a drawer. On it was a lamp and a few pictures of him and his parents. A pair of his father's glasses laid there, and he picked them up to try them on. He looked around before realizing how he didn't like how everything looked with them on and put them back.

The boy then made it to a door that was partially opened. He pushes it even further open and steps inside what is his father's office. However, something was wrong. Papers and objects were strewn all around the room, his father's desk was a mess, and the window at the back was open with rain coming in. He knew it wasn't supposed to be like this, so he started calling out to his father.

When the man finally answered his son's calls, he arrived at his office and looked around. He immediately knew what happened, so he quickly grabbed his son and moved him away before closing the windows, closing the curtains as well so no one could look inside. Then he took a drawer out from his desk and removed all the contents from it before tracing his finger along the outside. Finding a small button, he presses it and the supposed bottom of the drawer slides away to reveal a secret section of it where a folder was hidden. He goes through it to see if anything was missing as the boy's mother came in and grabbed him. She left the office as her husband walked over to the blackboard and picked up an eraser to get rid of the formulas he had written on it. Then he grabs a hammer from a tool bag nearby and grabs something that was on a workbench. He then hits it a few times with the hammer before dropping it and walking away to reveal the smashed device.

Later, the man was driving his car with his wife in the passenger seat and his son in the backseat. He listened as his parents talked as if they were worried, panic clear in their eyes. However, his father noticed him staring silently and turned to look at him.

Father: "Everything's okay, Y/n. Mommy and Daddy just need to go do something, so we're gonna be leaving you with your grandparents, okay?"

Y/n: "O-okay, Daddy."

Y/n's father nodded before his wife called out to him.

Mother: "DISC--!"

F/n quickly turned around to face the road again when his wife called to him, only to see a massive truck barreling towards them. He tried to turn, but was too late. The truck crashes right into them, sending the car flying and rolling across the street. Once the car settles, Y/n is seen unconscious with blood running down his face. However, he slowly opens his eyes and blinks before looking around. He then looks forward to see his parents limp where they were, and he looks forward in confusion as he begins to call out to them.

Y/n: "Mommy...? Daddy...?"

He kept calling out to his parents, not knowing exactly what happened to them. He was scared and in pain. He wanted his parents to respond, but they never did.

And as everything panned outward to reveal Y/n's parents hanging limp, Y/n was the only one "awake" as his terrified face was seen through the broken front windshield.
_______________

Eleven years later, Y/n's reflection in a glass case. He opens it and pins a picture of the Wondercolts Debate Club before a basketball hits him in the head. He quickly turns to where it came from to see some jocks going for the ball and completely ignoring him. So the seventeen-year-old just sighs as he closes the case and begins to walk away with his skateboard under his arm.

Now, Y/n was a pretty average looking teenager. He's probably one of the few students at Canterlot High School who wasn't exactly eye-grabbing. However, that didn't mean he didn't have any looks. He was a fairly good-looking young man, who had (H/C) hair put into a (hair style) with (S/C) skin and round (E/C) eyes. He wore a grey jacket with a (F/C) t-shirt of his favorite movie underneath, a pair of regular blue jeans, and a pair of sneakers. Finally, he also had a camera hanging from his neck.

Like I said, he was pretty average looking.

As he walked down the hall, however, Y/n was stopped by a girl he easily recognized. She has white skin, purple hair with three cut-out blue diamonds for hairpin, dark blue eyes, sky-blue eyeshadow with long black lashes, and roving purple eyebrows. She has yellow and gold bracelets on her wrists, and originally wore a pale blue elbow-sleeved shirt, a purple skirt with threw diamons on it, a tense purple belt with two blue buckles, and purple boots in a high wedge heel, which tops are covered with a single diamond. She was, of course, Rarity, a fashion designer that makes her wage via selling and working for the students at Canterlot. Most of the time, anyway.

Rarity: "Excuse me, dear, can I borrow a moment of your time?"

Y/n: "Uh... y-yeah, sure. What's up?"

Rarity: "You're Y/n L/n, correct?"

Surprosed at how Rarity knew his name, Y/n simply hummed and nodded in confirmation.

Rarity: "Wonderful. I've seen your photos, and I must say that they are absolutely fabulous!"

Y/n: "Oh, uh, thanks. Thank you."

Rarity: "You're welcome, dear. Now, are you busy this Saturday?"

Not knowing how to exactly answer that, Y/n simply shook his head and shrugged his shoulder.

Rarity: "Fabulous, darling. I was wondering if you could come by the shop and take some pictures. I'm trying to get more word out about what I do, but you obviously have a clear skill in photography. What do you say?"

Y/n: "Oh, uh, yeah. Yeah, I can take a look at the old, uh, calendar and see if I have anything planned. If not, I'll definitely be there."

Rarity: "Fabulous! Have a wonderful day, darling!"

Rarity told Y/n before walking away, leaving Y/n alone. He sighed as he suddenly felt really stupid before walking away. He goes to set his skateboard, only to pick it back up as he notices Vice-Principal Luna looking at him.

Luna: "You wanna keep that skateboard, young man? Keep it off the ground."

Y/n: "Yes, ma'am. Like this?"

Y/n asked as he began to walk past her and lifted his skateboard up to where its wheels were facing the ceiling.

Luna: "You got it."

The vice-principal turns away, and once she was no longer in his field of view, Y/n puts his skateboard on the ground and rode it forward. He makes it to the cafeteria, where he sees a crowd of students gathered around one of the tables. He hops off of his skateboard and approaches the crowd, pushing through it to the front to see what was happening. There he sees a girl his age holding a younger girl up by her torso and legs, pushing her face against a lunch tray.

???: "C'mon, half pint! Eat your greens, they're good for you!"

"Half Pint": "Lemme go, you big meanie!"

Y/n recognized both girls. The girl that was being held up was Apple Bloom, a younger girl who is part of a small band that uploads music videos on the internet.

The girl who was holding her up, however, was Sunset Shimmer, a girl with wavy hair of red and yellow, and cyan eyes. Her skin is light amber. She also wore a black leather jacket over a dark pink shirt with a red and yellow shimmering sun, an orange skirt with pink and yellow lines, and black and pink knee-high boots.

Y/n knew the two weren't friends or were just playing around. Sunset was the biggest bully in the school, who enjoyed terrorizing her fellow students and making them feel beneath her. Y/n didn't like her, but then again, no one did.

As she tried to force Apple Bloom to eat her food, Sunset noticed Y/n and his camera. She gained a wicked smile as she got an idea.

Sunset: "Hey, you with the camera! Take a picture!"

Y/n sighed as Sunset positioned Apple Bloom to face him.

Y/n: "I'm not taking the picture."

Sunset: "Come on! It'll be funny!"

Y/n: "No, it won't."

Sunset: "Just come on! Take the picture!"

Y/n: "Put her down, please."

Sunset: "Take the picture!"

Y/n: "Son of a-- Put her down, Sunset! Now!"

The entire cafeteria went silent at this as everyone stared at Y/n in shocked awe. Then Sunset dropped Apple Bloom onto the ground, who scrambles to get away as the bully glares at the photographer. Then she walks over to him, and Y/n instantly begins to regret what he has done. And once Sunset was right in front of her schoolmate, she started staring him down.

Sunset: "No one has spoken to me like that in years. Who do you think you are?"

Y/n: "Um... nobody."

Sunset: "Exactly."

She snaps her fingers and Y/n heard something whoosh by him. He looked to see what it was, only for Sunset to push him and the back of his legs hit something behind him, making him fall over and onto the floor. He lands with a grunt and shakes his head before noticing a smaller boy crouched down underneath his legs, who was one of Sunset's lackies: Snips.

Y/n: "Wha...?"

Before Y/n could comprehend what just happened, Sunset quickly nabs the camera from around his neck as Snips runs away.

Y/n: "Hey!"

Sunset: "You know, this is a nice little camera. Kinda expensive, too. Be a real shame if something... happened to it."

Y/n: "Wait, no--!"

Sunset drops the camera onto the ground before stomping on it with her foot, smashing it as pieces of it fly off. Y/n's pupils shrank in horror as Sunset removed her foot, and the camera sparked a bit before finally giving out.

Sunset: "And that is a warning. Next time you try something like that, I'll break more than your camera."

She tells Y/n before looking around at the crowd watching them.

Sunset: "Anyone else wanna try me?"

No one stepped forward or said anything, and some even quickly left to avoid Sunset. They were all too afraid of her to do anything against her. This makes Sunset smirk before turning to walk away.

Sunset: "Good."

As she walked away, the crowd began breaking up and leaving as well since there wasn't anything to watch anymore. Y/n fixes his sitting position on the floor as he gets on his knees, and he grabs what was left of his camera. He sighs in an almost depressed-like way as he gathers up the remains of his camera and puts it in his bag.

Y/n: "Just great... My favorite camera..."

Y/n says before he stands up and begins to walk away as well. However, as he does, Apple Bloom watches him from behind a pillar and immediately feels sorry for him. However, she quickly smiles and gets an idea before running off.
_______________

After school, Y/n quickly arrives at his home. He says a greeting when he walks inside before hearing a woman respond from the kitchen, so he walks there to see his grandmother, Gypsy Cake, cutting up some tomatoes and onions.

Grandma Gypsy: "Hey. I'm making spaghetti and meatballs tonight."

Y/n: "Spaghetti and meatballs? You serious?"

Y/n asked as he opened the refrigerator door to look for a quick snack.

Grandma Gypsy: "What? Don't like spaghetti and meatballs anymore?"

Y/n: "No, sorry. Just had a rough day."

Y/n stated as closed the fridge door and walked to the dining room table.

Grandma Gypsy: "Oh, what happened?"

She asked as her grandson as he set his backpack on the table. He opens it and lets his ruined camera spill out onto it, making Gypsy gasp when she sees it.

Grandma Gypsy: "Oh, what happened?"

Y/n: "Nothing. I was just riding on my board and I fell."

Gypsy sighed at the news before an old man walked into the kitchen with a soaking box of trophies in his hands. He sets it down on the kitchen table, making Gypsy groan.

Grandma Gypsy: "Cinnamon Crescent, don't you dare leave that disgusting box in my kitchen!"

Grandpa Cinnamon: "These are my golfing trophies."

Grandma Gypsy: "Then by all means, leave that disgusting box in my kitchen."

Cinnamon rolled his eyes as he placed the box on the ground before turning to his grandson. He notices his depressed look and then sees his broken camera.

Grandpa Cinnamon: "Oh, no. What happened?"

Grandma Gypsy: "He fell. Why you kids ride those stupid things, I'll never know."

Grandpa Cinnamon: "Because it's stupid and dangerous. Remember when we were stupid and dangerous?"

Grandma Gypsy: "No, I don't."

Grandpa Cinnmon: *to Y/n* "Trust me, we were."

This makes Y/n laugh a bit.

Y/n: "Good to know."

Y/n smiled before his grandpa walked past him, and he noticed that he had his pants rolled up with dripping feet.

Y/n: "Where's the flood?"

Grandpa Cinnamon: "Follow me, I'mma show ya."

Y/n: "Wait, seriously?"

Grandpa Cinnamon: "Yeah, c'mon!"

Y/n shrugged and followed his grandfather down into the basement, where it was indeed flooding.

Grandpa Cinnamon: "I think it's the, uh... condenser tray."

Y/n: "Nah, too much water. Can't be the heat exchange tubing, either. It's gotta be the filling."

Cinnamon sighed as he knew realized his grandson might have been right.

Grandpa Cinnamon: "Must be the it, then. Can you fix it?"

Y/n: "No, not tonight. I'll go by the hardware store tomorrow, though, and get some stuff."

Grandpa Cinnamon: "Sounds like a plan."

Y/n nodded as he and his grandpa started grabbing some stuff to make sure it didn't get touched by the water. However, Cinnamon spoke up.

Grandpa Cinnamon: "So what really happened?"

Y/n: "What do you mean?"

Grandpa Cinnamon: "Son, I know when you lie just to make sure your grandmother stays calm. I do it all the time. Now, what happened?"

Y/n: "Just some bully."

Grandpa Cinnamon: "Do I need to call anyone's parents?"

Y/n: "No. It wouldn't solve anything anyway."

Grandpa Cinnamon: "It was a good idea not to tell your grandmother. I pity the poor soul who has to suffer her wrath."

Cinnamon said as he put some things in a box before taking it and makes his way towards the stairs.

Grandpa Cinnamon: "Before you come back up, look to see if there's anything of value you can salvage, 'kay?"

Y/n: "Okay, Grandpa."

Y/n said and his grandfather went up to the ground floor. Y/n then began looking around to find anything worth any value, only to find nothing so far. However, when he pulled away some boxes, he found a briefcase underneath them and immediately became curious. He looked at it, finding his father's initials on the lock.

Soon he takes the briefcase and brings it upstairs, staring at it and ignoring his grandparents arguing with each other. However, Cinnamon notices Y/n and looks at the briefcase in his hands. He remembers that it was his son's.

Grandpa Cinnamon: "Hey, I forgot all about that thing. It was your father's."

Y/n: "Yeah, his initials are on the lock."

Grandpa Cinnamon: "No idea what's in there, though. It was in the car the night of the crash."

Y/n: "And you never bothered to open it?"

Grandpa Cinnamon: "Never had a reason to."

Y/n looked at his grandfather before looking back at his father's briefcase. However, Gypsy wanted it gone.

Grandma Gypsy: "Okay, put that away. We're about to eat. And wash your hands. Now."

Grandpa Cinnamon: "Go."

Y/n shrugged before going to do what he was told. However, as he leaves, his grandparents look at each other and Gypsy puts her hand over her mouth to keep herself from crying.
_______________

Y/n was in his room after eating dinner with his grandparents. He was looking at the broken pieces of his camera before groaning and tossing them aside on his desk. He knew that it was beyond saving, so he might as well throw it away. Though he was grateful that the memory card wasn't damaged, so he can use it for another time.

Y/n: "Man, screw you, Sunset..."

Y/n said as he leaned back in his chair. However, he saw his father's briefcase on his bed in the corner of his eye. Growing curious, he stands up from his chair and walks over to it. He grabs it and takes it back to his desk, where he set the briefcase down and started to try to think of ways to open it since he didn't know the lock's code. So he began trying different codes for the lock, first trying "1111", only for that to end up failing. Next, he tried a random set of numbers he thought his father would choose, but that didn't work either.

Y/n: "Dang, alright. Okay, I guess a few more attempts before I actually break you open."

Y/n taps his chin in thought before trying the combination of "0973", which was his father's birthday. However, that didn't work, which frustrated the teen even more since he hadn't gotten the code for the lock yet. He leaned forward in thought, trying to think of whatever the code could be.

Y/n: "Come on, Y/n... What number can have any meaning to Dad..."

Y/n thought long and hard on this, only to think of something. He didn't know if it would work, but it was worth a try. So he put in "0488" into the lock to see if it worked... and the lock popped open for him.

Y/n: "Huh. You really did care for me, Dad. My birthday of all things."

Y/n smiled at this before he grabbed the top of the briefcase and opened it... only to find nothing inside of it.

Y/n: "What? No, that doesn't make any sense. Why would you have brought it with you that night if you didn't have anything inside...?"

Y/n asked as he ran his hand through his hair. He then sighed, knowing no one was gonna answer him, so he closed the briefcase and threw it into his closet. He then changed into some different clothes for the rest of the day before going back to his computer to spend the rest of the day doing research, watching videos, or playing games.

Yep, this was the typical day in Y/n's life. It's not too exciting, now is it? Well, that's how it always was and how it always will be for Y/n. He's come to accept that nothing in this universe can do to change it.
