-(Y/N)'s P.O.V-

I was now at the hospital, sitting on my bed with an IV tube on my arm. 

I was wearing a patient robe from the hospital and I was looking at the city with the big window next to me. 

(Y/N): *Sigh* I wonder what's the cause of this disease? 

I questioned myself because I couldn't have some sleep for over three days ago and I've been sweating a lot. My parents and my big sis noticed this as they took me to the doctor as I waited for the results to happen.

Oh right, I forgot to introduce myself. My name is (Y/N) (L/N), just your average 15-year-old junior student at (School/Name). I had a loving family and a loving best friend who's been there with me since middle school. 

Introductions aside, I heard the door opened to my right as I looked over to see the doctor approaching me with a grim look on her face.

Doctor: Hello (Y/N), how are you feeling today?

(Y/N): Oh, somewhat fine, I guess? I don't know...

I replied back with a stern look on my face as the doctor sighs before speaking up.

Doctor: We found something that is wrong with you and it might be shocking to tell you this.

(Y/N): Go ahead.

Doctor: You see....you have Fatal Familial Insomnia or FFI for short. 

(Y/N): Wait, what? Fatal Familial Insomnia?

Doctor: That's correct. That is the reason why you were sweating a lot and also the reason why you can't sleep, which makes it that your brain is unable to shut down.

(Y/N): Is the disease fatal? Can it...kill me...?

I asked in a concerned voice as the doctor looked away for a moment before speaking up.

Doctor: Yes, but it cannot be cured as well. What's even worse is that you'll die within 18 months.

(Y/N): 18 months!?

I asked in shock as the doctor nodded at me.

Doctor: That is correct and I'm...really sorry that this happened to you, (Y/N). 

 I was speechless as I lowered my head down in sadness until the doctor spoke up.

Doctor: It's only 18 months. I'm afraid things will get worse for you, Mr. (L/N). 

My heart dropped after hearing that. I'm going to experience some miserable pain for 18 months? Well...shit.

I then start to rub my forehead and I can feel emotions climb up. I then felt a grin creeping up on my face...is it a mixture of anger and crying that I'm feeling?

(Y/N): Heh...hehehe...I see...a miserable pain in 18 months huh?

Doctor: Yeah...I'm really sorry, my dear.

And just like that, the doctor left the room as I let out a deep sigh, knowing that I'm going to die in a miserable pain within 18 months .

(Y/N): Give me a break...what a shitty situation that I'm in...fuck me...Can somebody end my life right now? A bullet would be okay to have on my head.

I muttered to myself as I heard my door being knocked.

(Y/N): Come on in.

I said as the door opens to see a familiar face to see. This is my best friend, Konno Yuuki. 

Yuuki: Hello, (Y/N)~! 

She greeted me with her usual energetic voice and a smile on her face and I can notice that she carried a box of chocolate cookies on her arm.

Yuuki: I bought chocolate chip cookies which you liked.

(Y/N): Oh, thanks.

I said in my monotone voice to which Yuuki took notice.

Yuuki: I just saw the doctor walked out of your room. It's been already two months now since you haven't left the hospital, did they get the results?

She asked curiously as I looked away for a moment before I turned over to her and spoke up.

(Y/N): Come and sit down next to me.

I said as Yuuki grabs a nearby chair and drags it over before sitting on it next to my bed.

Yuuki: What is it?

(Y/N): They did found the results and...I'm afraid to tell you this, but...I have Fatal Familia Insomnia or FFI for short.

Yuuki: So that's the reason you can't sleep? Wait...Fatal?

She asked in a surprised voice as I nodded in confirmation before speaking up.

(Y/N): Yeah, the doctor told me that there's a problem in my brain that makes my brain unable to shut down.

Yuuki: B-But they can cure it, right?

Yuuki asked worriedly as I let out a deep sigh. 

(Y/N): Unfortunately, there is no cure. The FFI disease will grow and it'll deprive me of sleep. The doctor said the average lifespan from developing symptoms is 18 months, which means that I have only 16 months left to live.

I said with a pained expression on my face.

-Yuuki's P.O.V-

I couldn't believe what I had just heard. 18 months of this deadly disease? Now (Y/N) has only 16 months to die? 

My tears started to well up in my eyes as I tackled him into a hug and I began to sob my eyes out. 

Yuuki: T-This...This is a joke, right?! I-I...d-don't...want...t-to...lose you!

I managed to speak up between my sobs and my incoherent pleading.

(Y/N): Yuuki, FFI is a deadly disease and I don't think this is a joke, it's serious. 

Yuuki: No! I refuse to believe it!

I exclaimed in denial.

(Y/N): You may not want to believe it, but there is nothing they can do. However, they said that they'd let me leave the hospital for a while, and let me see my friends. So these 16 months...and I want them to spend time with everyone, including for you as well.

He said to me in a reassuring voice as I hugged (Y/N) a bit tighter and he continued to rub my back, trying to soothe me.

That's when I start to hear him sniffling and I can feel his hands gripping my clothes.

(Y/N): G-Goddamn...I-I...*sniff*...just...*sniff*...this is h-horrible...*Sniff*

He spoke with his voice shaking from crying as the two of us held our hug a little tighter until I felt wet tears dripping down on my left shoulder.

Yuuki: I'm here for you, (Y/N). Don't worry.

(Y/N): *Sniff* Y-Yeah...*sniff* th-thank you...

-(Y/N)'s P.O.V and Time Skip, One Month Later-

I had been able to sleep off and on ever since I left the hospital. Mostly when I slept that Yuuki was with me, so I felt at ease. I have to tell her more about the condition I have, including it's four stages. 

The first lasts five months, worsening insomnia, panic attacks, and paranoia. In two months the next stage should start where I'll start to become so sleep deprived and I'll hallucinate. 

The third is a total and complete loss of sleep, which will be followed by severe weight loss, and finally the fourth stage, my body will begin to shut down over the course of six months. I laid in bed with Yuuki, her arm wrapped around me as if I was a body pillow. I felt myself slowly pass out into a, not so blissful, sleep.

-Time Skip and Two Months Later-

They had taken me back to the hospital after I started to lose track of reality. I knew that I was hallucinating, I could tell the difference between real and imaginary, but I didn't want Yuuki and my family to see me all the time like this. 

Although, that didn't really work because Yuuki practically lives at the hospital with me. The staff stopped caring about visiting hours. Hell, they let her stay well past the visit hours because they know there's nothing more they can do, other than making me comfortable.

The truth is that I'm scared of dying and I'm not gonna make it now, but with Yuuki on my side, I felt that I'm a bit at ease now. I looked at my side to see Yuuki was clutching onto my hand tightly while sleeping.

I had a splitting headache, my eyes felt heavy, I felt so weak and tired already, plus I just wanted to get some sleep already. I looked over to Yuuki who was still asleep as I patted her head with a sad smile on my face.

-Time Skip and Five Months Later-

It's been five months now and my body was no longer moving and I was getting weaker now for the past couple of months now. Hell, I've been losing weight and I feel my body being all skinny.

???: Hey son, are you alright?

I looked over to my right on my bed to see my dad, Arthur (L/N).

(Y/N): N-No...I'm not...

I spoke in my weak voice and around me in my room was my mom, Mamako (L/N)...

...and my big sis, Rin (L/N).

These three were my family and they haven't been visited me for a couple of months now.

Mamako: (Y/N)? Sweetie?

I looked over to my mom who was on my left, holding my arm with a sad look on her face.

(Y/N): H-Hey ma...

I said with a weak smile.

Mamako: Don't worry, we're all here for you, dear...

(Y/N): I know...I-I know...

I said as my mom gave me a gentle smile on her face as she uses her hand to cup my cheek and spoke up. 

Mamako: Look at you...you're still my sweet boy as ever since the day you were born and I'm grateful to have you, including for your big sister...

She said with tears slowly coming up her eyes as I nodded weakly before speaking up.

(Y/N): Yeah...

Arthur: Hey (Y/N).

(Y/N): Y-yeah...dad...?

Arthur: You know...you're a good boy, you know that? Never forget that I love you. Life is filled with hard times and good times. Don't forget that whatever you go through no matter what, I will always love you and I'm really glad to have met you, my boy. 

My dad said with a sad smile on my face as I smiled back at him. 

(Y/N): Heh, thanks, dad.

I looked over to my big sis who was trying not to cry and tried to have a "tough guy" face. 

Mamako: Rin, do you have something to say, (Y/N)? 

Rin stood there for a moment before approaching me. Rin gently holds my hand spoke up.

Rin: Hey, lil' bro.

(Y/N): Hey big sis. 

Rin: You wanna hear something funny?

(Y/N): What?

Rin: You know, there is a little boy inside the man who is my brother...Oh, how I hated that little boy and how I love him too. 

I let out a weak chuckle as Rin continues. 

Rin: To tell you the truth, (Y/N). I wish we could spend more time together, we used to fight all the time, but now that I don't see you very often. Besides, I cherish the time when I have you. No matter how old you get, you'll be my little brother whose hand I held. 

(Y/N): Rin...

Rin: But that's not all, I placed you in my heart since you were born. You are the best gift ever that I've gotten from our parents. I'm so lucky to have you as my younger brother. 

I was shocked to hear that as I felt my eyes began to water because of Rin's gratitude. I then held a smile on my face and spoke up to her.

(Y/N): Thank you...Rin...you're the best big sis to me...after all...

Rin gave me a shocked look on her face as her tears started to streaming down on her face, she then pulled up a smile on her face and spoke up.

Rin: Oh you...you're still the same idiotic brother...

Rin said as she patted me on me the head. 

-Time Skip, Five Months, and Yuuki's P.O.V-

(F/N) held me back as I screamed and tried to get into (Y/N)'s room at the hospital.

(F/N): Yuuki! Calm down for a second! The doctor said-

Yuuki: I don't care! I need to see him!

I screamed as tears rolled down my face. I got a call, saying that (Y/N) was showing the signs of...you know. I finally broke free from (F/N) and sprinted into the room.

(F/N): Yuuki! No!

While I was heading towards (Y/N)'s room,  as I entered the room and all I saw was (Y/N) with his family around him.

I ran up and checked and to my horror, he looked so frail and skinny...

He was breathing...only a little bit as I can hear the Holter monitor beeping next to me. 

Yuuki: (Y/N)!

I cried out as I went up to him and held his hand. Arthur and Mamako didn't mind this as they also held their hands onto (Y/N)'s arm to be with him.

Yuuki: (Y/N)! Are you still there!? (Y/N)!

I cried out to him until his eyes weakly looked at me and spoke up.

(Y/N): Y-Yuu...ki...?

I gasped in shock as held up a happy face to see that he was still holding on to his life.

Yuuki: I'm here, (Y/N)! I'm here!

I exclaimed as I felt (Y/N)'s hand holding onto mine as he was slowly breathing up and down. 

(Y/N): I...see...

Yuuki: I'm glad that I came here in time to see you...

(Y/N): Y...Yeah...

It was a moment of silence for a moment until (Y/N) spoke up again.

(Y/N): H-Hey...Yuuki...?

Yuuki: Huh?

(Y/N): Be happy...and...move...on...and also...

(Y/N) says as he was about to finish his sentence but only to breathe faintly...

Yuuki: W-What? What is it...?

He gave me a weak smile and said his last words...

(Y/N): I...I'll...miss...you...all...all of...you...

I was in a bit of shock of hearing this as my tears started to fall out of my eyes before I gave him a sad smile and all of us started to speak up to him. 

Yuuki: Me too...

Mamako: Thank you, sweetie...

Arthur: Thanks, boy...

Rin: Thank you...little bro...

And just like that, we hear the Holter monitor beeping and within a few seconds...we hear the horrific sound...

All of us were now in horror as we heard that sound...the means...(Y/N) is now gone...and I no longer felt held his hand holding mine...

Yuuki: No...No...No...!! (Y/N)!!!!

I screamed out for his name as I started balling uncontrollably. Mamako began to bury her face onto Arthur's chest as she cried her eyes out. Arthur hugged her back and tried not to cry, but failed to do so. Rin, on the other hand, left the room to cry her eyes out.

I stood there, motionless, looking at the lifeless body of (Y/N) (L/N). I then lowered my head down in sadness with my hair covering my eyes as I began to thought to myself. 

Yuuki: (I guess there's nothing that I can do now...all I have to do is move on now...I'll miss you (Y/N).)
