It was the last night before we would reach the lake.

I sat in the tent alone, holding my bag close.

All my stories from the years were about to be revealed.

Just two more days before I would have to tell her everything.

I can't put her through this.

My head pounds.

I can't drag them down with me.

So I'll have to go down alone.

I step outside the tent.

I can't.

I can't.

I can't. 

I rip open my bag.

My notebook stares back at me, pleading to be hidden.

I fuckin can't.

I'll take those secrets to the grave.

And by the looks of it, it won't be too much longer.

I had no idea what I was doing holding the blade this close to me.

But here I was, hair a mess, and my life even worse.

I was in the clearing I found earlier.

I leaned against a tree.

Weak.

That's what I was.

I turned around.

Annabeth was standing next to me.

"It's that bad, huh?"

She had a tear slowly falling from her eye.

She grabbed my hand, peeling away the blade.

"Yeah, I need you too much to let you go like that."

She threw it away.

I watched her sit down next to me, holding a pen with a bunch of silver glitter on it.

"I was gonna give this to you, since you know, you like to write?"

She placed it in my palm.

"How about you make a promise?"

I shook my head, my hair falling from it's resting place on my shoulders.

I didn't wanna break her heart too.

"I already broke one too many promises."

She looked away.

"What about one you can keep?"

She turned back to face me. "Promise you'll not try to.. you know... again?"

I smiled.

"My kingdom of darkness shall renew it's alignment with your army"

I felt her place her hand on top of mine.

"My civilization appreciates it"

She looked up at me.

"And I mean it too."

And to me, that was enough.
