Chapter 1
She looks around and bites her lip as she climbs up the rocky face of the mountain. Her light brown shirt getting dirtied as she pressed herself against the rock wall. Her dark green skirt slowly getting ripped from the occasional sharp rock.
"Ugh..." she throws her leg up to the next ledge and grumbles pulling herself on top of the platform. She rolled over as he short white hair covered her face.
She rolls and looks up seeing a flock of birds fly by with a blue bird leading them. "Lucky...." she says quietly watching them fly by.
She lies there for a while, regaining her strength after climbing the steep base of the hill.
She sighs, staring up at the sky before sitting up and looking at the large stone village.
There was a tall library almost reaching the top of the hill. Through the windows she could see that there was two floors filled with books and the top floor seemed to be a living space.
Next to the library was a guard station of the same height. Two guards were by the entrance talking while other guards were walking around.
One guard was talking to a small hooded child with pointed ears while another talked to a female villager. There was a church, a farm and lots of houses in the stone village. Each house connected was to a gravel patch lined with stone bricks.
She stands up and brushes herself before heading towards the village. To the top half of the hill there was a large stone brick staircase leading up to the top.
She wondered why there wasn't a staircase up the hill... Maybe it was for defensive purposes?
She thinks for a while before remembering she needed somewhere to stay the night.
She looks around for somewhere to stay before she notices a old crumbling mineshaft looking entrance. Unlike the rest of the village it had crumbling moss covered stone bricks. She peeks down the entrance and sees slowly dimming torches lighting the staircase down underground.
A hand goes on her shoulder and she jumps. "Meep!"
"Sorry..." a male sounding voice says and let's go of her shoulder. She turns around and looked at him.
It was a hooded man with brown hair and a clever grin. He had gentle blue eyes and wore a blue robe similar to a one a wizard would wear. He also wore a blue cape making her think he had a fascination with the colour blue. His hair indicated it was tied up somehow but she couldn't see how.
"Who are you...?" she asks quietly.
"Just a tourist." he grins his brown hair slightly covering his eyes. "Anyway you might not wanna go down there. The villagers are very protective of this place... It's a very important place to them."
"Why?" she tilts her head curiously.
"It's where the old village is. The only ruins that survived the Chaos all those centuries ago."he says closing his eyes as he spoke before reopening them when he finished.
"The Chaos...?" she repeats quietly confused.
What was that..?
"Mhm. Anyway gotta go. Got a lot of things to do. The names Alchem." he winks. "If your looking for a place to stay go to one of the watchtowers." he says as he pointed to the top of the mountain where two watchtowers proudly stood.
"Oh... Thank you..." she smiled gratefully.
He nods and walks away. "No problem. Have fun in Stonevale miss!" he chuckles and walked towards the library.
She waved goodbye to him slowly before she walked up the large stone stairs. Once she reached the top she looked out and saw the land filled with dark oak trees and the occasional villages scattered around a large landscape.
There were other types of forest but none as visible as the dark oak forest. It covered the land like a blanket till it was interrupted by tall proud mountains.
She takes a deep breath admiring the view. It was absolutey breathtaking..
After spending some time admiring the vies she goes up to one of the watchtowers and knocking loudly on the door.
A female guard opened the door looking rather sleepless. "Are you here to report a crime?" she yawned.
"Um no. A person told me I could stay the night at one of the watch towers.." she replies quietly.
"Sorry miss. That's the other watchtower." she points to the other stone watchtower. "This one is just for guards." she grumbles quietly.
"Oh. Sorry mam!" she says quickly, not wanting to waste this guards time any longer.
"Its alright..." she mumbles annoyed. "Anyway...Your new around here... Tell me why did you come here to Stonevale? Hardly anyone comes here..."
"It was the closest village to where I was.." she goes quiet.
"Oh a traveller...? Don't get many here... Where you headed..?" she examines her as she spoke.
"...just..." she hesitates. "travelling I guess..." she mumbles very quietly.
The guard looks at her raising an eyebrow. "Alright..." she says doubtful. "Just stay out of trouble now.."
"Yes mam..." she nodded slowly as the sleepy guard closed the door.
She sighs and heads over to the other watchtower. She walked up to the door and knocked on it. A tall male guard opened it with a loud creak. "...Can I help you?"
"Yes I'm looking for a place to stay the night. I was told I could stay here..."
"Do you have any gillia ..?"
She shakes her head. "No..." she mumbles quietly not knowing what it was.
"Do you have anything to exchange for a room...?" he raises an eyebrow looking at her.
"No..."
He sighs. "Sorry... But if you can't pay you can't stay..."
"Hey!" a female guard runs up to him. "Kazio! We're out of wood and coal!"
He sighs. "I thought we had enough for one night...Didn't we send someone to gather wood..?"
"Yes... They haven't come back...."
He thinks quietly before his face lights up and he looks at her. "Wait... Traveller. Could you go into the woods and find Them? In exchange you can stay here for the night free of charge."
A smile forms on her face. "Of course! What do they look like?"
"He's tall short, carries around a sword and has red hair. Insists everyone call him Garro."
"Got it. I'll do my best to find him before sundown!" She runs off before he could say another word heading towards the woods. She scales down the mountain and goes into the woods.
The woods were large and crowded. A sense of warmth and freedom washed over her as she smiled. The woods sang to her quietly beckoning her to follow it.
She shook her head knowing she had a job to do.
There was a distance sound of someone cutting wood. She heads towards the noise figuring it would most likely be the person she's looking for.
The closer she got the louder it was till she eventually found a guard near a cart of wood cutting down the tree.
"Hello sir!" she approaches the person.
The guard turns to look at her beads of sweat going down his face. "Who are you?"
"I'm a traveller. The guards at Stonevale asked me to come find you."
"Why...? It's not near sundown is it?" he wipes his sweat away as he spoke.
"Actually it is. It's starting to get dark...."
"It is?!?" He looked at her suprised as she nodded. "Oh great..... Can you help me take this back to the village?"
"Yes sir!" she nodded and picked up a small pile of the wood. A faint noise caused her to turn her head towards the source.
He did the same pulling out his sword, taking up a defensive position.
A branch breaks as a low growl broke the silence, followed by the whistle of an arrow flying past.
The sound of feet pounding against the ground grew louder. Five..? No the sound of ten pairs of feet headed towards them.
"Dam it! Bandits!" the guard yelled, dodging an arrow aimed for his head.
She felt her hands tremble in fear as she looked at them confused. Bandits...?
"We can't take take them on by ourselves! You go one way and I'll go the other way! Meet me back at the village!"
She nods her body shaking uncontrollably.
"Run!" he yells as the two took off in separate directions.
She closed her eyes and ran deep into the woods. The woods song grew louder offering her to save her from these... 'bandits.'
Tears formed in her eyes from fear. She followed the song her body trembling. She couldn't stop her body from shaking. Why was she so scared of these 'bandits'?!? Were they monsters?!?
The woods clear the way for her as she looked forward... Never noticing the small hole appearing before her before it was too late.
She looked up as she saw hooded figures peer down before turning away, knowing that the hole claimed all that fell.
The entrance to the hole was just saw enough for her to fall through... She never saw it as she was running...
The song the woods sang to her became a lullaby as she fell into the darkness. She closed her eyes facing upwards...
Hopefully Garro had gotten away safely...
She crashed into water. As sharp pain erupting across her body. She opened her mouth to cry out but water filled her lungs.
Light beamed down from the entrance of the hole. The song changed, telling her to swim, swim for her life.
She tried to swim up, her lungs on fire. All she managed to do was swim in one spot, after all she didn't know how to swim.
The water gently pushed her up, like some sort of force was controlling it. It pushed her onto what felt like smooth stone.
She gasped and coughed out the water in her lungs. A faint light that didn't feel like sunlight shone on her. She looked up to see a round orb shining brightly with a warm inviting glow on a stone pedestal.
She forced herself to stand up. She wobbled and heard the song invite her to touch the orb, promising guide her out of the hole and backed into stonevale.
She slowly moved her hand towards it before hesitating, an image formed in her mind.
A ripple across time.
A person with a blue cape was crying...
Allowing you to see a glimpse of the future.
A bow and sword in front of her.
A future that cannot be changed.
The song changed trying to dispel the image.
Because you were created to be one with it.
The image faded away as the song urged to to touch it, and the glow beckoned her to do so.
She thought quietly but found her hand moving towards it... it was her only hope to escape wherever she had fallen to after all...
As her hand made contact with the orb, it changed to a glowing line that entered her arm. She snapped her hand back as the line travelled up her arm her clothes changes into a blue robe and cape. A dark blue hood formed over her white hair as she shaked her arm trying to get rid of it.
The song changed to a lullaby reassuring her she would be fine. The line disappeared as she glanced down at her new outfit before noting something odd about her surroundings.
She was on a stone brick platform water surrounding it. Around the water was grass.... And there was trees growing on the grass. There were stone brick walls, decorated with green moss and cracks...
She spotted a dark tunnel...a tunnel that hadn't been there before...an exit..? She looked down noticing there wasn't anyway to cross the water.
She could try and jump across... It looked just wide enough for her to jump if she had a running start...
She took a deep breath and jumped, closing her eyes... Preparing to fall into the water... Instead, she felt something grab her....well. More precisely. Her cape had been hooked onto something.
She opened her eyes and saw a....tree...leaning forward... With a branch out.... Which her cape had hooked onto.
She blinked as the branch brought her down to the ground and unhooked itself, before going back to the position it had been in.
She stares at the tree as she faintly hears the song guiding her to the tunnel. She glanced at the tree before following the song into the tunnel.
The tunnel was dark and empty. It was made of stone brick decorated with moss and cracks, as well as torches that had long burnt out.
Something warm started to form in her hands. She glanced into her hands and as a small red flower formed in her hand. She looked into her other hand and saw another red flower formed in her other hand.
She put her hands together and the two flowers made one big one that split and made small flowers on the torches, brightening the tunnel.
The flower slowly flickers and disappears as she picked up a torch. She walked down the tunnel till it split into two directions.
She went left and found bedrooms... Old... Abandoned... The wood in the beds rotting... The blankets and pillows barely recognisable.
She kept on looking finding nothing of interest. She turned back and headed towards the right. She comes across a door and looked inside. Rows upon rows of chairs... And an odd looking table with some sort of banner.
She closed the door and kept on walking. She finds more doors and peeks inside each one. She finds a room with dirt in rows and water flowing through each row.
Another had lots of stone chairs again and a raised platform, another had lots of chests and cupboards. Another was another bedroom...
Eventually she found large stairs going up. Voices echoed down the walls.
She heads up the stairs holding tightly the torch. Her footsteps echoed up the stairway.
Light beamed down the tunnel. Moonlight....? She ran up the stairs a smile forming on her face. She was finally free..
She could see an outline of two figures. Were they guards...?
She ran up to the top, seeing the outline of the buildings in stonevale... She reached the exit and was about to step into the village- but the guards swords blocked her path.
"Don't take another step mage."
Mage....?
"What....?" she says quietly.
The guard from the tower, Kazio, goes up to the two. "What's going on-" he looked at her. "....No way..."
"Kazio she's-"
"I can see already." he clenched his fist and glared at her. "How did you know?"
"Know what?"
"About the element hidden here in the ruins?!"
"Element? What element-" hee mind flashed to the orb. Was that what he was talking about?
"Don't play dumb!" he yelled glaring at her. "Tell us how you know about it-"
"I-I don't know anything about an element-"
"Sir I don't think she'll tell us." the other guard at the entrance looked at Kazio
".....Then begin the execution."
She flinched her body starting to glow. "E-execution?!? But I-"
"She's preparing an attack of some sort! Quickly! Before she destroys the whole village!!" the guard rushed forward the sword pointed at her heart.
The two at the gate raise their swords to cut her in half.
She glanced back into the stairway and ran down closing her eyes.
Then she crashed into something hard.
She opened her eyes seeing tree bark in front of her. She turned around, starting to feel incredible tired.
Trees..... There were trees all around her.....the guards were gone...
And grass.. Soft.....comfortable.....grass...
She collapses to the ground, her mind going black.
