The two find themselves in the Delta Section of the base. In the main loading area, Advent forces patrol as scientist work from the consoles in the adjacent rooms. In the centre was a circle shaped gate with purple vines coming off of it and wrapping around everything within a five metre radius. It suddenly activates with a spiral of purple and more aliens began to step out, including a large white sphere with multiple plates shifting.

"What is that thing," Nexus whispered from high up. The Commander shrugs as they continue to watch. The portal shuts down and the sphere opens up with spazzing tendrils and a pink blob inside. "Your call Commander."

Chailux gives a nod and pulls out a couple of plasma grenades and tosses one to Nexus. He points to another vantage point and Nexus grapples towards it. Chailux waits for him to get into position before arming the grenade.

Plasma bursts go off, killing a large majority and the surviving open fire on Chailux, unaware of Nexus. He fires burst shots down at them as Nexus picks them off. A muton gets behind Chailux and he pulls his pistol, firing a loud shot which blinds it. When the muton regains sigh, Chailux was gone and Nexus killed it. As the aliens try to figure out what is going on, turrets pop out from the ground and open fire.

The sphere closes itself off and hovers away from the fight. "Don't let it get away," Chailux radios and Nexus nods, jumping down and following the sphere. It crashes through a wall as if it were paper and Nexus finds himself in a dark room.

He turns on a flashlight as sweeps the area. It looked to be one of the generator room, still operational and intact. A tendril knocks him from around a corner and his rifle falls from his hand. He pulls out his pistol and readies his whip. The sphere opens up, ready to use a psionic attack. Nexus whips at a tendril, freezing it and shooting it off. It doesn't hinder it and the other tendril tips begin to glow.

Nexus grabs his head and falls to his as it begins to hurt. Your mind belongs to me. A voice echoes in his mind. You will do as I command. "Like hell I will," Nexus mutters under his breath and raises his arm shakily, firing at the large eye of the pink blob. It squeals and the pain subsides. Nexus continues to fire over and over until it was dead and unmoving. His breath was sharp and rapid as he stood over the mess.

"Nexus do you read me," the Commander calls in a worried tone through his ear-piece. Nexus responds and Chailux breaths a sigh of relief, "the portal is secure. I've contacted Bradford. He's bringing the Avenger around."

Within the next few hours, the Avenger arrives and XCOM operatives begin to take back the base. Bradford sees the Commander and Nexus being looked over by a couple of field medics. A disappointed look on his face as he looks at the two. "That was reckless," he scorns them, "Nexus, you knew the risk of coming back here."

"If anyone's to blame it's me," Chailux stands up and Bradford turns to him, "don't pan it off to Nexus just because I'm the Commander."

Bradford and Chailux lock gazes for a moment then Bradford backs off. Walking off to take inventory of what the others have found. "That's why you're in charge," Nexus comments and the Command smiles before being pulled away by Vahlen.

"Commander," she said as she leads him down to her old lab, "while you were gone, the other team returned with something interesting." On the table, surrounded by scientist was a humanoid corpse with wavy white hair sticking up and it's face covered by a mask. "Tygan and I already preformed the autopsy. We believe this is Avatar."

"Then we are too late," Chailux said as he examined the Avatar, "they finished it."

"Not entirely," Vahlen explained as she points out some of the flaws to the body, "the team was able to take it down with ease suggesting it wasn't complete. We may still have time."
