Chapter 43
I finished what I could, my anxiety getting the best of me and making it that I couldn't finish eating. I knew that I wouldn't be able to eat anything else if I didn't complete this.
I took a deep breath in and let it out as I excused myself from the table, pulling Xavier up with me. I glanced at my uncle, silently asking him to come with us.
My uncle nodded his head and followed us into the meeting room. He stayed silent as he sat down in his chair and watched as Xavier and I sat down together in the same chair with Bryson still in my arms. "Ready?" he asked when we were settled in.
"Uh... ya, ya, I think so," I said, causing him to nod his head. I placed my head on Xavier's shoulder and watched as my uncle placed in my other uncle's number.
My uncle answered the phone on the second ring. "Sebastian," he said, instantly, causing me to raise an eyebrow and him to shrug. "What is it? Is she dead?" Concern filled voice, and I could have sworn that I heard his voice shake.
"No, no, she is alive and breathing," he replied, leaning back in his seat.
My uncle sighed and moved a hand across his face. "I have received a call from her mate a couple of months ago," he said. "I should have told you, I apologize."
"I am aware of the call," he said. 'I will tell you later,' he said, causing me to nod my head. He glanced at the male before him before looking at me. 'Xavier knows.'
'I know, I felt him stiffen.'
Uncle Brody sighed with relief, and I could tell that he had scratched his face. "So, she finally left that little punk ass bitch," he said, the disgust in his voice surprising me. "Do you know where she is?"
"I do," he replied.
"Is she safe?"
"Yes."
"Is she at the castle or at the base?"
"No, she is hiding out in a pack setting. It is the best option for her and her two cousins." He made no mention of my son, and I was grateful.
"Has she contacted you?"
"Of course."
My uncle hummed. There was no jealousy in that hum as if he knew that I was more comfortable with him than with a blood relative. "Have you seen her recently?"
"Yes."
"And?"
"And..?" He raised an eyebrow.
My uncle huffed. "Sebastian, I am not a fan of riddles. There is always a reason as to why you call me. If you didn't call me to inform me that she is dead, then you called me because..." He trailed off as if he thought of something. "Little Cassie?" he asked, his voice shaking. "Are you there?"
I cleared my throat. "Uh... hi, Uncle Brody," I said, shifting in my seat.
Uncle Brody sighed with relief, and he cleared his throat. "Goddess, don't worry me like that," he said, his voice cracking. "I was about to go over there and get you myself."
"And... do what?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Send you to France, of course," he replied. "Or, see if you can't be placed in a pack where you would have been safe from him."
"Which pack?" I asked, letting my dissatisfaction show.
"Which pack are you at now, and what rank are you?" he shot back, causing me to cringe.
I shifted uncomfortably in my seat, not knowing what he would think about me being with Xavier. I knew that my Uncle Bryson would have hated it, even though I completely understood Xavier and how it felt to be treated like a monster.
"Well?" my uncle asked, and I heard this small bit of glee in it. "Care to share?"
I narrowed my eyes at the phone. "Wolfcreek Pack as a Warrior," I replied, causing my uncle to tsk. I shot Uncle Sebastian a look, causing him to shrug.
"You could do much better than that, Little Cassie," he teased, causing me to narrow my eyes further at the phone.
"Are you suggesting to have sex with the Alpha?" I asked, causing Xavier to squeeze my arm in warning. I flashed him a smirk causing him to scowl.
Uncle Brody laughed, the sound lifting my heart and filling it with joy. "I was going to suggest getting to know him and make him fall for you, but that would work, too. I am sure that he is there, too, yes?"
"Yes, Alpha," Xavier said.
"Brody is just fine, Son," he said. "You're family." He cleared his throat, and I could tell that he that it was now time for a serious conversation. "Now, why is it that you had finally left?"
I licked lips and cleared my throat. "Umm... he had marked me as a traitor. It didn't hold." I flinched when my uncle growled out angrily, causing Xavier to growl out at him.
"Hmph, that mother-fucker is going to die. I will kill him my-"
"No!" I said, interrupting him. My heart skipped a beat and this sense of anger filled me. I wanted to be the one to kill him, and I didn't want someone else to do it before me.
"Why?" he asked, his tone turning slightly darker. "He deserves to die. Why ar-"
"Because I want to be the one to kill him," I said. My heart did hurt when I said that, but I did want to be the one to kill him. I wanted to kill him for the pain that he had put me and my little family through. I wanted him to know that he might have broken me, but I had been able to become stronger than he thought was possible.
My uncle took in a deep breath and sighed. He was trying to calm down, but I knew that he was displeased. "He is your mate, though," my uncle said. "Are you sure that you will be able to do it?"
"Yes," I said, instantly. "And, he was my mate. He isn't my mate anymore."
"Your wolf is still connected to him," he said, causing Xavier and I to stiffen. "She won't allow you to kill him."
"I... don't have a Wolf..." I said, "not anymore. He had ah... killed her or sent her into hiding."
Uncle Brody paused. "You are a strong female indeed," he mused, causing me to look down and blush. He cleared his throat. "I have no qualms with you staying with Xavier and his pack," he said, changing the subject. "Will I be able to visit her with some of her cousins as well as her aunt, Alpha?" he asked.
"Yes," Xavier said. "You may visit whenever you want to. I will not take her away from her family now that she has them again."
I smiled and placed a kiss on his cheek, causing him to look rather uncomfortable. I placed my head on his shoulder and waited for my uncle to say something.
"Good, good," Uncle Brody said. "Is... there anything else that you want to tell me, besides dating Xavier, Little Cassie?" he asked.
"I... have a son?" I said, it sounding more like a question than a statement. "His name is Bryson Ridge Kristen."
"Is he cute?" he asked, sounding rather pleased that I named my son after him.
"Very."
"Do you remember my phone number?" he asked. "I want pictures of him, and I want you to keep in contact with me. No more disappearing business, do you understand?"
"And what will happen if I do disappear?" I asked. "You'll kidnap me?"
"That's what the Guardsmen are for, Little Cassie," he teased. "I am sure that I can think of something."
I rolled my eyes because I had a feeling he would try to kidnap me too. "Question," I said, thinking of something. "Why do you not seem to have a problem with me being with Xavier?"
"Because, I know that you can take care of yourself," he replied, seriously. "And, I know that he will not hurt you. Also, I had asked around about him like your other uncle, but I didn't stop listening to what they had to say like he did."
"He heard that he had killed his mate, didn't he?" I asked, causing him to nod his head and make a noise. "And, you wanted to be nosey and found out something. What did you find out?"
"That you wanted to keep him," he replied. "And, you thought his eyes were beautiful. I tried to tell your uncle that, but..." I could tell that he had shrugged his shoulder. "I had met her before, actually, her and Xavier, but they weren't together or even found out that they were mates."
"First impressions?"
"You wouldn't have liked her, Cass," Uncle Brody replied. He sighed and moved a hand across his face. "Well, I am sure that you have other plans, so I will let you. I do want to hear what had happened to you, and I want you to tell me everything. You can do that when you are alone or with Xavier. Do you understand?"
"Jure-moi que to ne le poursuivras pas et ne diras à personne de le poursuivre," I said, switching to French. "Vous me laisserez partir après lui quand je serai prêt."
"Le tuer?" he asked.
"Oui."
"Ensuite, je vous jure je ne le poursuivrai pas et ne dirai à personne de le poursuivre. Je jure que je vous laisserai le poursuivre quand vous serez prêt," he said. (Then I swear to you that I will not go after him or tell anyone to go after him. I swear that I will let you go after him when you are ready.)
I nodded my head, feeling slightly relieved. "Merci." (Thank you.)
"I will help whenever I can," he said, switching to English. "Just tell me what you need help with."
"I will," I promised.
"I will talk to you soon. Call me once a week, understood?"
"Yes, Sir."
"Xavier?"
"Sir?" he asked.
"Take care of her. Treat her right, and she will treat you better. Us LeBlanc's are known strong loves as well as strong fighters. Some say we are more lovers than fighters, but that is a lie."
"I'll treat her right," Xavier promised. He placed a kiss on the top of my head, not caring that Uncle Sebastian was in the room.
"Good," my uncle said. "Little Cassie, I love you. Never forget that."
"I love you, too," I said.
"I will talk to you, soon," he promised, and with that, he hung up the phone, leaving me rather relieved and missing my family even more.
