Devil Blue

Xania felt sore all over as she trudged onward to the pop-up city. Walking through the aftermath of her icy wonderland, she discovered just how gigantic her explosion was. It seemed like eons until the terrain normalized back into dry forest.

After a while, she finally caught a glimpse of the pop-up. She wondered just how powerful Amber's eyes were, since she was able to see it all the way back from where they were before. The more she thought about her, the more she wanted to hurt her. Xania's hands began to frost up with rage.

"I'll never forgive you," she whispered under her breath, clenching her fists in an icy fury as she entered the meadow that led up to the gate.

"Name and species?" the gatekeeper questioned, face tendrils flexing with every word. The two armed guards in each tower seemed particularly alert.

"Xania, Taura," she answered, just now realizing she had her fists clenched. She unclenched them, and the ice build-up cascaded to the ground. She noticed the guards seem to relax a bit after that, still eyeing her carefully.

"Very good, we have thirteen Tauras here currently. Please fill out this basic entry form," the gatekeeper requested, a bit skittish.

She stared at him, eyes devoid of emotion as she took the device, filling it out in front of him as quickly as possible. "Here," she muttered, handing it back to him.

The gatekeeper surveyed it carefully. "It seems that you missed one question," he pointed out, offering her the device once more.

"I don't remember the transport vessel's name that brought me here," she responded, handing it back. Something felt out of place inside her, but since she couldn't determine what she did her best to ignore it.

"I'm afraid we need to find that out," the gatekeeper reluctantly informed her, not taking the device.

"Can't we do that later?" She bit her lip, frosting resurfacing on her hands.

"I'm afraid it is required. We need to be careful who we let in here. Do you perhaps remember anyone you landed with?" the gatekeeper reasoned, inching back slowly.

"No," Xania returned, a tear streaming down her face, quickly freezing. The ground around her turned blue, and ice climbed up the podium with the gatekeeper trapped behind.

"Cease immediately or we will fire!" she vaguely heard one of the guards shout, just as the gatekeeper started to freeze, screaming. Xania's eyes were completely vacant.

Unaware of her own actions, she swiftly sent two streams of ice to each guard tower. With the guards taken care of, she formed an ice bridge up the gates, mind in some sort of trance. Then the alarms blared, snapping her out of it.

As reality returned to her, she quickly glanced around to see what happened. She looked down at her trembling hands, then on a whim jumped down into the city. Grunting at the impact, she bolted down the nearest alley.

As she ran, she continued looking down at her once innocent hands. She was beginning to sob, hoping that the guards and the gatekeeper would be okay. Running further, she noticed a crowd ahead, and opted to instead find the nearest unlocked door just to step away from it all.

She wailed uncontrollably in a stranger's house, not even aware the place belonged to someone despite the obvious signs. She figured she was probably a fugitive now, all because she couldn't control her power. Taura's magic took years to master, and since she was never able to produce hardly anything, the teachers mostly ignored her. Now, completely out of control, she was paying the price for their insolence.

"Umm, can I help you?" a cautious, yet concerned person asked. As they carefully approached her, she turned her head to meet theirs.

Then she saw it, a knot of pent-up rage and fear unraveling into a spark. A looming, deadly-looking Perster stood directly over her.
