Chapter 28
This is a picture of Lincoln
IZZY'S POV:
My head is pounding against my skull when I open my eyes. Everything is blurry until my vision comes into focus. I slowly sit myself up on my elbows and look around. I'm in a cellar in a very long hallway. There are lines of cages upon cages on each side. Each cage has at least one man. I gasp when I see what they look like. All of them have scars, fresh and old, thick and thin. slashes across their bodies. Something that I am very familiar with. They all look like Xander's old wounds.
That was when I realised where I was. My heart beating hard against my chest, "No," I whisper to myself. They've caught me...they have me. Stupid Lizzy! Stupid! You're such an idiot! Why did you leave him! Why did you leave the only safe place we have left?!
Oh yeah...that's right. My heart aches as I picture him with...her. He betrayed me. I can't believe it. There is a part of me inside that doesn't believe it, but then why would he do such a thing? He went through so much to keep me safe, keep me protected because he loves me. Why would he do all of that if he had her this whole time? It just doesn't makes sense. I rub my head, trying to relieve the confusion that was crashing around in my brain.
I close my eyes and take a deep breath. I can't worry about Xander right now. I can deal with him later. Right now, I have to figure out a way to get out of here.
I look around my cellar frantically, trying to find a flaw. A way to get out. I search the walls for anything. Something caught my eye. Writings, pictures, symbols on the wall. Pictures of a family of five. A mother, a father, two sons, one big and one small, then a little sister. I keep looking and see horizontal lines going up the wall and numbers on them. It clicked. This boy was measuring his height as he grew. There was a little bit of writing next to this:
Dear Moon Goddess,
I pray that wherever my mate is, that you will protect her with all of your power. Keep her safe from anything that may do her harm. And I pray to you moon goddess...that I will meet her soon, and that you will give me the best ability to care for her, keep her safe...and love her with all my heart and that she will love me too.
A tear runs down my cheek and my breath quickens when I realize...this was Xander's cell when he was trapped here. There are criss crosses on the wall, counting the days he was there. The criss crosses covered the whole wall.
"Oh Xander," I whisper in longing.
"Do you know him?" A deep voice asked.
I looked to my left and see a very rugged looking man sitting in the cell next to me. He looked ruthless. He had scars and tattoos. He was made out of pure muscle. He had a shaved hea with piercing blue eyes.
"I said ,"He says more demandingly, "Do you know him?"
I nod my head silently.
"What are you to him? A girlfriend?"
"His mate." I whisper.
I see the man's lips pull into a small grin, "Well what do you know, the bastard did it."
"What do you mean?" I sit down on the floor.
"Xander used to be in the cell you are in now. We were close. I was here for about 6 months before he came along."
I nod, "How long have you been here?"
"Long enough to forget what my mother's face looks like."
I felt my heart hurt for him and every other prisoner in this hell.
"What does Matheseus want with me?" I asked fearfully.
The man turns to look at me with his brows drawn tightly together, "How do you know of Matheseus?"
I gulped, "He's been threatening Xander and I."
The man's jaw clenched, "So he finally found Xander. He could never let go of what Xander did. Now he's after you to get to Xander, am I right?"
I nodded my head nervously and leaned against the wall, bringing my knees up to my chest, "Can you tell me what Xander was like when he was here?"
The man leans his head against the wall and looks up as if he was looking into a memory, "When he got here, he was scared shitless. I thought he was weak...but he proved me wrong. He is the strongest man I have ever met. He sucked it up and moved on. He didn't mean to, but he fell into this position of a leader to all of us. He was like our big brother that came to protect us. He would do everything he could to keep all of us safe."
Tears pool my eyes as I smile, causing the tears to run down my face, "It sounds like him."
The man nods, "He once took all of our weekly punishments for a month. We had no pain for a month. That's a big thing here. No one has ever done that. When you get here, all you think about is your own pain, your own suffering which is only natural because it's your instinct. But Xander went against that. He refused. He didn't care about his own pain...he only cared about others who were suffering."
I take deep breaths as I try to calm down, "He betrayed me." I confessed.
This caught the man's attention. His head slowly turns to me and frowns, "How?"
"I caught him with another woman."
The man shakes his head and turns back as he said confidently, "Impossible."
"I saw him though!" I exclaimed.
"Xander wouldn't betray his mate. He recited his prayer that he wrote on the wall every night when he was trapped here. I'm telling you now that he didn't betray you."
"But I saw him!" I argued.
"You only saw what you thought you saw. Xander always has his reasons for everything he does. That fact that you're even questioning his loyalty to you says something about your loyalty to him."
"Excuse me?!" I said in disbelief, "What else was I to think when I saw the man I love with another woman!"
"You talk to him. It sounds like all you did was take off and now look at where you are. You're in hell. And you may never see him again."
"I'm not talking to you anymore." I lay down and turn away from him.
I was angry at what he said. I don't even know this man, but that fact that he didn't care of the injustice done upon me angered me. But then nagging thoughts brought a wave of contradiction to my gloomy mind.
Maybe he's right? Maybe I just should've been alone for a bit to calm down and then talk to him? I should've stayed to know the truth.
I look around this whole place and see all of these men who have known nothing but pain and suffering. They all bare marks to prove it. Will I become one of them? Will I bare scars on my skin that shows how much I went through? Will my heart forever be viciously ripped apart again and again as I try to relive the moments I had with Xander while I rot here?
I hear a man walking towards my cell. I close my eyes and pretend that I'm asleep. Please go away, please go away.
"Yo Daniel! look at this one. It's a girl."
"I know it's a girl you idiot! She's master's prize." I felt myself internally tense.
"Damn. Ain't he a lucky son of a bitch."
"Shhh! They'll hear you."
"No they won't. I'm sure master wouldn't mind me having a little piece."
"Just like you had a little piece of that Lana chick?"
"Yeah, she was a pretty good lay. I wonder if she got Xander laid? I mean that was her job right? She could've gotten him to do anything and he would've done it if it meant that he got more information of how to protect his mate." I felt my heart stop as my soaked in the truth and guilt over me not staying to listen to him. What's wrong with you Izzy!
"Nah man. She's probably dead by now. If Xander's mate is as vicious as he is, He would've snapped her in half. Mates are very possessive of each other."
"Yeah true...well, let's go. Our shift is over."
I hear their steps slowly fade into nothing.
"I told you." The man said.
I sit up and sigh as I lean against the wall, tears welling up in my eyes, "You're right. Xander only did it for me. Feel better now that you know that you're right?"
He shakes his head, "No. I already knew I was right."
I rolled my eyes, "Of course."
I suddenly hear the man stand up and growl loudly. I look at him. He's staring at something. Something in front of my cell. I look towards it. I see a black outline of a man.
"Hello my darling." His voice gave me chills and not the good kind.
"Who're you?"
"How rude of me," he chuckles, "I am Matheseus."
"Rogue Alpha, "I whisper as a chill went up my spine.
He nods, "Yes I am he."
I stand up on shaky legs, "What do you want from me?"
"I want you. You are my new mate and you shall bare my child. That is after I will kill you current one."
I frown, "What do you mean current one? I don't have a child."
He laughs at me, "You didn't know? You didn't recognize the signs?"
I think through all the symptoms. Mood swings, cravings, exhaustion...oh my gosh. "I'm pregnant." I say as I am struck with the realisation.
"Yes, yes you are."
I look back up to him. He has one guard on each side of him now. one of them has a cup. I can tell you now that it's not water.
"Hold her down." He commands.
The guards come into my cell. "No!" I scream. They're going to kill my baby! I punch and kick with all of my might. I kick one in the balls. He grunts, "SHit! You bitch!" He slaps me across the face. I land on the floor and both of them hold me down. Matheseus holds the cup and slowly walks towards me. I struggle. Don't open your mouth Izzy.
"Now I'm not going to lie. This will be very painful. It will poison you then the poison will be fed to you child...killing it. Then it will be nothing. But don't worry, you'll have another child soon enough."
As he is about the pour the liquid, the man shouts, "Wait!"
Matheseus sighs and looks to the man, "Yes?"
"I know what liquid you're using. It is so strong that it will kill anything that is inside of her,"
He nods, "Precisely. I'm glad you understand the chemistry. Now where was I?"
"Yes, but it may damage her to the point that her reproductive system may fail and she won't be able to bare you any off spring. If you beat her, perform surgery or anything that will interfere with a werewolf pregnancy can be fatal. She will die, or her child will die along with her ability to bare children. She will become a barren...she-wolves who are pregnant are very delicate. They are to be handled safely."
Matheseus stares at the wall in thought. He pulls his cup of death away from me, "Fine. You will go through the full pregnancy, but when your child is born, you will not get the chance to even hold him before I spill you baby's blood onto the floor of my feet." With that said, he threw the cup at the wall, smashing it do pieces. He then stomps out of the cellar area along with his guards.
as soon as I see him leave, I feel my legs give way as I sigh in relief, I turn to the man on my left, "Why did you save me?"
"You're welcome?"
"Why?"
He sighs, "Xander protected me. I can only return the favour by protecting the most important thing to him."
I nod towards him in gratitude, "Thank you."
He nods back and leans back against the wall.
"What is your name?" He asks.
"I'm Elizabeth. What's yours?"
"My name is Lincoln."
